Can you please elaborate on this insightful contribution?

Don Pyke isn’t our list manager btw.

While I’m sure this have all been avoided by quickly rolling out an Eric Hipwood-style extension for Oscar, his injury history, age and current form are surely fair indication that may not be the best idea for a club neck deep in a rebuild…

But by all means, pile on, tell us more how this should have been played by the Eagles.

Have you been reading the news recently Don Pykes approach to Allen and the split in the playing group?

So he’s apparently an injured spud in your eyes but it appears the eagles are expecting band 1 compo. Hmm.

Yet another club is expected to pay him $1,000,000 x 6 years to activate band 1 compo pick
Ok got it

I didn’t say anything about compensation?

Whether he stays or goes, WCE are within their rights not to hand out a ‘Max’ contract for the guy.

You appear to agree with me in that regard that he’s not worth $1m x 6 (or whatever), so why would WCE give him a deal like that?

Low key rumours aren’t news - and if anything, ‘player unrest’ rumours have related to experienced guys struggling to adjust to changes in the post Simpson/Nisbett era.

and again, I haven’t mentioned compensation for him departing.

….and he’s not a spud - he’s out of form and injury plagued but his best footy is very good - it’s whether he has much more of that to come that is the question for WCE, and rightly so, given the current state of the list.

Seems to have found alittle of his form and looks like he is enjoying footy again.

Maybe he just needed the hard reboot.
Definitely playing a lot better. A lot of things could’ve helped.
-Mentally, has a decision been made?
-Waterman out, hard to have two star KPF in a bottom side both going well. Only so much ball coming in.
  • the rest with his ‘good knee’ wouldve helped. Moving a lot better.
  • Eagles ball movement is a lot better atm then at the start of the year. Mini game plan is starting to show.

The big change for me is Waterman getting injured.

Seeing how Oscar all of a sudden became Oscar of old as soon as Snake goes out of the team tells me we have two KPF who have large overlap and may struggle to function optimally together.

We’re still yet to see much evidence that they can function together as the two main forwards, in fact there is a fair bit of evidence that they both play better when the other isn’t in the side.

From the Harrison Petty school of “Spud who plays like prime King Carey against the cats”….

Oh please, the guy has never been a spud - his form was poor to start the year and he struggled in a team looking a mile off.

Hopefully can string a few good games together now.

.. You don't watch a lot of West Coast, do you fella?

One of the few consistently good players we have.

Given his form an injuries, another club offering him the kind of deal to activate band 1 compo is crazy to me.

Have always felt he was staying though.
To be honest the system is broken completely. Sitting here and pretending it isnt just because it will be pick 2 and not pick 8 that we get seems a bit pointless if not counter productive.

People are yelling at the wrong cloud here

Question

If Brisbane dont overpay for Oscar Allen, what is the alternative? Do you think they continue with Sam Day? Do they trade out of next years draft and give up one of their academy players down the line to get someone better ?

I would back in MCMorris to continue to improve and get games into Gallop

That situation already exists though so I guess your answer would then be to do nothing? Morris is already playing. Im more or less asking, whats the alternative to Sam Day. Gallop is a option but you think a 1st/2nd year tall forward in a premiership window is the way to go? Thats a very big risk in reality.

I think the real question should be what exactly does Allen offer brisbane to make him a 'Must get'
and pay $1 million a year with a premiership team and a stacked list.
I also have no doubt Allen is reluctant to leave but a good watch and see

im thinking the lions offer would be close to $800k and may fall short of the band 1 but will the AFL manipulate the herbs and spices to still hand band 1 - Watch and see

Other options would be to play Henry Smith as a second ruck, play Lloyd/Gallop, or make no changes. If we get Draper, will most likely be a Smith+Draper combo.
