Andy Otten is back :thumbsu:

http://www.afc.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/4417/newsid/100178/default.aspx

"I've always had that picture in my head of running through the midfield," he said.
"I think my footprints are embedded around the oval now and I go for a ride every Saturday up in the Adelaide Hills.
"I've put on a little bit of weight and the strength in my legs has increased dramatically. I've got my power back. Actually, it's probably better than what it was and my upper-body strength has improved the most."

A bigger, meaner version running though the midfield.

Fantastic prospect for next year. :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:

according to the AFC website, Andy is 192 cms and 87 kgs. This is presumably at the beginning of the season.

if he has put on a bit of weight, he will be one of the biggest midfielders in the comp.

by comparison:

Pendlebury 191/91
Goddard 191/92
Chadwick Q Cornes 192/95
Pav 192/101

Cool. Who would have thought we'd miss an inexperienced player so badly. Perfect replacement for Goody.

first picked player in the cashopoulos 2011 dreamteam...

Will go a long way to helping the loss of Macca and Goody in 2011, can't wait to see him back.:thumbsu:

Hopefully he'll be back stronger than ever. If I was him I'd take it easy on the knee until December because if he pushes and twists the knee too much it will simply cave back in.

I noticed the pic on the afc website of Otten taking the game saving mark in the semi final last year .... if not for stupid Ben Rutten. We would have made it to a preliminary final and gone into 2010 with great belief.

Fantastic news to see Otten back out there. He has been sorely missed. I really hope he'll get into the midfield rotations next year. Can't wait to see him back.

Is that your preferred option Carl?

I think a straight limit to 80 (20 p/qtr) would be better suited and will probably being the option. As you can still have an insane number of rotations with 3 on the bench (even if it does make it harder) which the AFL is trying to stamp out.

No, not my preferred option, just the way I think it will go. Limit of 80 interchanges and three on the bench. One extra player who can be brought in at the expense of another player but then is out of the game permanently.

Also I don't think that the subbed off player should need to be injured. It's too difficult to prove whether a player is injured or not, just invites controversy. If a coach wants to pull their substitute on for tactical reasons or injuries reasons, I don't care.

My preferred option would be to just leave it as it is. If the increased interchanges are indeed causing more injuries then the clubs will realise this and scale them back. No one wants to be missing their best players. If there is any merit to the AFL's argument then the problem will fix itself.

Carl if your 22 started round one with a full pre season behind them....
Imagine Knights Bock Porps running around unhinded by injury.
Also imagine a rejuvenated and determined Tippet , a refreshed Walker, an even stronger (if possible) Dangerfield.
What about a wiser and even more confident Dougy, a much more determined Bernie, a brawnier Davis, Stiffy down to 2 packets a day (ha ha !) and hopefully a more confident in his new role as captain-VB.

Definitely there is potential for much improvement over this "Horrible Anus" of a year and we'll have a lot to look forward to.

But above all I will find it hard to top the return of one.... Andrew Otten!
Bigger Stronger Leaner Meaner!

Double Drool!

Can't wait for him to play his first game next year, we really need more clean players like him. He has it all agility, skills, evasion, marking. Will be a brilliant player for us.

This lineup is great but i'm worried we will keep both Stevens and Doughty and feel obliged to play them

I remember doing this last year with plenty of optimism and look how it all turned out. I changed the players in blue.

It's silly not to say that injuries to the players in red (either in the pre season or during the season) had a big impact on our shit first half of the year.

Fingers crossed for next year. A fit Otten and Martin to choose from will be more than handy. I think its fair to say a fit Adelaide squad easily has top 4 potential, but there are a lot of 'if's' and good luck that have to go our way.
