Before we all get to excited- it was reported on Sunday's Footy Show (yeah I know don't shoot me I am just the messenger) by Doc Larkins that he may play this week and god knows after Freo we need him, does anyone know if this may happen or not, I know we have all been speculating for six weeks now if he will play or not but from what the doc was saying he must be very close or even a good chance. He said he has been training really well and is very fit? Would we risk him or give him a couple more to be sure?

Give hime a couple of weeks in the two's to get a bit of match fitness.
Yeah Blake got hammered on the weekend but not too many blokes are gonna out ruck Sandilands when he's on his game like Friday night.
Blake needs to get these games under his belt if he is to take over as number one ruck in years to come. Last thing we want is to rush Otto back in a panic and have him do a hammy cause he's a bit under done.
It's only round 6, from the movie Bowfinger " Keep it together" Keep it together" Keep it together".

Assuming he is fit enough to come straight back and will not risk further injurying his foot, a half fit Ottens is 10 times the player that Blake is. The question should be who does he replace? Blake or Mumford? Or does West come back as well?

Don't throw the baby out with the bathwater - of course Blake stays in as 2nd ruckman if Ottens is back.

There is a school of thought from some that Ottens was actually right to go a few weeks ago. Given his importnance to the team and them suspecting that 15-16 games might be his limit for the season I think it's been a case of managing him very conservatively.

A few years ago Rob Harvey had planta fascia - jumped repeatedly off the bench at home until it snapped and he played that week without missing a game.

I don't see a need for Ottens to play in the reserves. Mumford must have only had about 40 minutes game time anyway. Surely Ottens is up to that.

I really don't think they should play Ottens (even if he's ready) this week. With the bye coming up after this game, its a good chance to give Otto an extra week's recovery/rest and bring in him back in round 8 when we play the Tigers at the G!

Wouldn't it be more sensible to play him if he is ready thereby giving him a fortnight to recover from his first game back? Otto needs game time to get fit - wrapping these blokes up in cotton wool gets you nowhere.

Good Point! - he would be far more useful this week dropping back to help out scarlo/harley cover bradshaw/brown then blake and company would ever be

Ottens should play if he is ready; even if he is somewhat out of form will still be a big plus for us. Throw him in the forward line to rest and recover if he gets too worn out during the game.

Yep. A half fit Ottens is better than our third and fourth ruck options at this stage. West and Mumford have shown potential and that they will play a big part in our future, but Ottens is our most crucial player and must come in as soon as he's good to go.

yeah doc did say the big O's fitness is really up there at the moment. I think he said hes been doing a lot of work on the bike and in the pool?

Heres hoping he comes back this week, i'll have a Big O-gasm if he does.

some may remember i posted on this a while back.

and i reiterate, Ottens isnt going to play until midseason - by that i mean rd 11ish, no earlier.

he is a lot worse than they are letting on.

im getting pretty tired of the "one week away" speel, he's been one week away all season.

It was found to be plantar fasciitis. Debilitating, painful and odd in that it can not be operated, healed or rehabbed until it completely tears itself. It was torn a few weeks ago now and has improved since as expected as far we know. I would expect him to be medically fine to go after the Origin game and that fitness and form are the only issues now.

he will come straight back in this week...poor old blakey just didnt prove his worth with otto out, some people just dont cut it..will get delisted in near future

I've had plantar fasceitis and let me tell you it sucks, restricts you big time.. Ottens will and can play games, however it will flare up at any time and it is at its worse during winter..
Expect Ottens to play ON and OFF this year.. I would save him for the big games, at least you get maximum value out of him..
Tarkyn Lockyer had a similar thing a few years ago and it kept him out for a while.. The same podiatrist I went to in Geelong treated Lockyer, im sure she would be treating Ottens as well..
I would rather have a broken leg or torn achilles rather than plantar fasceitis, it takes ages to heel properly..
Hope Ottens gets himself on the park soon, I like watching his game..
