Our Best 22. If we make the finals and we had no injuries i would put this team up based on what i have seen so far in the year and how i think players will go throughout the year. I have come up with this:

Best team

B: Joseph :: Jamison :: Thornton

HB: Bower :: Austin :: Russell

C: Gibbs :: Mclean :: Scotland

HF: Yarran :: Henderson :: Simpson

F: Waite :: O'Halpin :: Betts

Foll: Kreuzer :: Judd :: Murphy

I/C: Carrazzo - Warnock - Armfield - Walker

EMRG: Robinson Houlihan Gartlett Lucas (3 of these 4)

The forward line could change a lot though throughout the year. Someone has previously suggested having Eddie, Yarran and Gartlett at the same time. I personally sont think this will be too successful, however i would like to be proven wrong.

Please share your oppinions and who you think should make our best 22 and why.

In a few years, when we are ready to contend for the premiership, yes we may need to make these changes.

Scotland has played well for the first 2 rounds and then, like everyone else, had a not so good game. He will retire by the time we are actual contenders for the flag.

O'halpin. yes, in a couple of years we will have to replace if we want to win a flag. But for now he is good enough.

Carrazzo has been playing fairly well in the first couple of rounds. Right now i think he definately deserves his place in our 22 and will until proven otherwise.

Armfield. He is still young and has not had much experience. He provides a lot of dash off the backline and always goes in 100%. But, yes, does need to improbe his skills.

Walker has continually been played out of position. He is probably most suited to the wing of forward flank. He has had to play on opponents a lot bigger than him. He has also been riddled with injury, and like Warnock, will probably start performing well in the later half of the season.

Waite. Yes, he does seem to be playing his best footy in the backline. But if Austin, thornton, bower, jamo and waite play in the backline then it will be too tall. We will have to experiment with him throughout the season. He is very versatile and may just be used to fill in the holes in the team.

I agree with houlihan.

I think we will have pretty close to our best side on the park this week against adelaide, here is what i consider to be our best side:

B: Jamison, Thornton, Joseph.
HB: Bower, Waite, Russell.
C: Simpson, Scotland, Gibbs.
HF: Houlihan, Henderson, Carrazzo,
F: Betts, O'hAilpin, Yarran.

R: Kruezer, Judd, Murphy.
INT: Warnock, Lucas, Walker, Robinson.

I didn't include McLean in this team because I predict he will be out this week with a hip injury as ratten told the media after last saturday nights game.

Our forward line is not strong enough. yet. We still need Waite up forward to give it an extra strong option. When Waite starts to play better and find some form he will be a big threat up forward. he will then probably take the best defender, hence cutting Hendo and Setanta some slack.
With Waite up forward we still lack one more tall down back. This is where Austin comes in. He is still very young but is a fairly good defender. He plays a lot like Jamison in that he doesnt run off his opponent but he can shut them down.
When McLean is fit to play, who would you take out of the team to let him in?

This team should be able to beat the crows. (Austin may not be ready to play due to injury)

I think the only player that might miss when McLean is fit would be Lucas, just because of the experience factor but then again if McLean is out for a number weeks and Lucas shows some real talent and value to the team McLean might struggle to get back in,

I agree with you about Austin and I like the way he plays too although I do prefer Waite as a defender rather than a permanent forward, I think he played up forward mostly on saturday night because Essendon didnt really have a tall damaging forward for waite to play effectively on (although he didnt do anything of real value for us up forward either),

I would like to see Austin back in the side but I dont see who's spot he will take, maybe Walker or Houlihan who I thoght were our 2 worst players last week, maybe we could have a side that looks a bit more like this:

B: Jamison, Thornton, Austin.
HB: Bower, Waite, Russell.
C: Simpson, Scotland, Gibbs.
HF: Robinson, Henderson, Carrazzo.
F: Betts, O'hAilpin, Yarran.

R: Kruezer, Judd, Murphy.
INT: Warnock, Joseph, Lucas, Garlett.

No injuries, my best 22 would be:

Backs: Joseph Jamison Thornton
H-Backs: Russell Bower Scotland
Centres: Garlett Judd Simpson
H-Forwards: Yarran O'Hailpin Waite
F-Forwards: Betts Henderson Houlihan
Rucks: Kreuzer Gibbs Murphy
I/C: McLean Warnock Wiggins Robinson

Assuming no injuries/best case scenario with players getting games etc, our best 22 for the finals this year:

B: Thornton, Jamieson, Armfield

HB: Russell, Bower, Walker

C: Waite, McLean, Simpson

HF: Murphy, Henderson, Houlihan

F: Betts, O'Hailpin, Yarran

Foll: Kreuzer, Gibbs, Judd

Int: Joseph, Garlett, Lucas, (1 ruckman)

Emergency: Carazzo, Scotland, Austin, Robbinson,

Needs to hold his marks. There was a passage of play where Jacobs marked the ball and released all the pressure St Kilda applied in our back half. I remember thinking "Warnock would've turned that over and let them score" when it happened. He does have more upside, but alot to work on for now.

Very hard to argue with that team, above.
We may though want another tall backman, in reserve.
I'd like to see Robbo make his way back, but then who to take out?

Let's hope we've heard the last talk of any our last 6, not being up to scratch.

I love the legspeed of the back six.

Jamison is a stay at home full back, but the other five defenders love to take off and create drive out of the backline using their legspeed.

Rotate Gibbs through there who is as an architect off half back and it's a great mix.

I watched one of Warnock's games against the Saints where he rucked against King with Sandilands in the team. Was used sparingly, yet Knockers showed that he can mark, read the play and kick in a game against an AA and premiership ruckman.

Knockers played a kick behind the play and cut off a few inside fifties.

Good mobility for a big man.

I would have Warnock and Hampson ahead of Sauce if they're fit.

Warnock is a better alround footballer than Jacobs.

best 22 changes every week.It means nothing.By seasons end it will look totally different again.

We no longer have a best 22. We have a best 30 or so and should continue to adopt a horses for courses strategy.

You'd have to say we're getting there ODN.
That would be the ideal scenario for our club and the sooner we ditch the term "dropped" the better.
Just because one player is selected in front of another should not suggest that the other is not good enough.
Warnock and Jacobs should rotate on a "needs" or best structured basis, as should some of our mids.
Great to see that Gibbs and Murphy were not in our best through such a win as last nights.
We'll still wobble from time to time but we are making inroads into becoming a top notch team
