Grant is one i don't rate as highly as some others.

Maybe it's because of the Schwass trade.

Yep, 97 Prelim. Loudest crowd I’ve ever been at, including half a dozen GFs.
Those 2 suspensions, Carey playing with one arm and McKernan had his shoulder badly injured early by some saints no-name trying to put him through the fence early in the game.
Aside from the GF that will not be named, the 97 prelim was my least favourite game of all time. I was filthy with that McKernan tackle, and remember that by the end of the game, we basically had to ruck Simpson I believe as we had run out of bodies. 97 was such a frustrating year, where nothing went right.

I actually wish Jarrod Waite played for us longer or to start with.

He was super talented - I enjoyed watching him play despite being end of his career.

On their Day-

Carey
McKernan
Longmire
(Petrie, Cunners stiff)

Over their career-

Carey
Harvey
Goldstein (Simpson, Stevens stiff)

Made a career out of Pure Shinboner spirit-

Archer
Firrito
Swallow
On their day category I'd have Waite and Thomas up there. Unstoppable at their best.

For sheer quantity and quality of football over that time: Carey, Cunnington, Goldstein, Harvey.

Some seriously short memories re: Boomer in this thread.

Putting him second behind Carey was an absolute no brainer.

Yep. Absolute freak really. Reliable physically, amazingly consistent over close to 2 decades and I'd argue that no other North player in this period (if ever) has delivered that level of quality for such a long period.

I'd say Pickett also.

He would not only beat his 50/50 contest, but then run off and create.

Choppy was an absolute gun at his best.

A clear better player to Thomas imo.

Feel my list will have already been covered in this thread but instead here are the top 5 by Brownlow votes:
  1. Brent Harvey 191 votes (0.44 per game)
  2. Wayne Carey 126 votes (0.52)
  3. Wayne Schwass 88 votes (0.48)
  4. Andrew Swallow 78 votes (0.35)
  5. Shannon Grant 73 votes (0.30)

Not for many if you look at the lists made so far....

Second in some, far from definitive.

Boomer didn't even tackle or try defensively.
