Cameron Wood won the rising star nomination for round 2, he did play well. But I thought Selwood and Hawkins were both more impressive and deserving of the nomination.

Thoughts?

Didn't expect either of our boys to take it this week, really.

Wood is going to be a fine player though. Along with Leuenberger and Charman, Brisbane are going to have quite the ruck stocks heading into the next few years.

Ha ha ha Woods??

Selwood is a gun he shouldhave da nomination. Will be better than Murphy and he would have won it last year if not injured!!

17 possessions plus a goal plus set up one other goal he is going to be a gun and our best midfielder in a couple of years. Maybe even next year!!:thumbsu: :thumbsu: :thumbsu:

I didn't think Selwood had his best game. He looked to be rushed in many of his possessions and I got the feeling the pace of the game had finally caught up with him.

Hawkins was obviously impressive but was only on the ground for probably half of the match.

I was very impressed with Wood on Thursday night. A deserving nominee.

The time for both our boys will come. Prismall and Djerrkura may even get a look in at some stage too.

maybe he looked different on tv but i agree, selwood got run down a few time or made rash decisions. the awe of the big leagues must also be having an effect as he is struggling to pick the ball cleanly off the ground.

i think stokes and kelly should feel hard done going by the recent cases that havent even been tried at the tribunal.

Geez geelong are good make carlton look like crap

Players have altered the way they approach a guy over the ball now because of how severely Stokes, Kelly and that Freo guy got treated at the tribunal. I noticed at one stage on Saturday night Carrazzo was a little tentative approaching a guy with his head over the ball. One can only assume it was because of the penalties dished out in the pre-season.

But getting back on topic, Tomahawk and Selwood will get their nominations later in the season, no doubt.

No doubt wood will be a good player, and the lions have some impressive ruck stocks. However Wood played better last week and probably got the nomination off that.

I do think Selwood and Hawkins were the most impressive this week. Selwood came good in the 2nd half as did Hawkins. This was probably because the game had been won, but still they showed good signs and I thought deserved recognition.

Ahhwell its only round 2 im sure by the seasons end we will have 4 nominations Prismal, Varcoe, Selwood and Hawkins.

Well, as much as I love Sel, I'll be the first to admit his game was pretty average. I really feel the stats flatter what was probably far from his best game.

As others have somewhat alluded to, he looked uneasy early on - a few fumbles and dodgy disposals. He certainly worked his way back into the game, but it was hardly a game you'd give him a nomination for (given the other kids going around).

His off the ball work is (still) tremendous though. Runs hard and straight at the ball, and even if he figures a team mate will beat him there first, he'll continue to charge forth and simply take out the nearest opponent instead. Love it.

Dont worry, the time will come this season where both Selwood and Prismall will get their nominations.. Im looking very very happy with the cats midfield this year!

Have to agree with you pickles, the young fellas time will come, young Jetta was also impressive for the bombers, hasnt there season done a full circle, looking the goods early. God i wish we got lucas now.

They won’t nominate someone on a single performance lightly, particularly if that performance was against a team that struggled (i.e. Carlton). Wood was nominated due to his game in round 1 as well as round 2 as this proves he is the real deal.

If Hawkins kicks another two or three against Melbourne you can back it in he will be the nominee for round 3.

Selwood will struggle a little IMO because our midfield is already quite talented unlike Carlton’s, where Gibbs will undoubtedly dominate as they lack options. We still have Kelly to come in, probably at Selwoods expense. He may get nominated at some stage, but Hawkins, Varcoe and Djerrkura will find it easier to get nominated than Selwood because they are exactly what out team lacks.

Catempire, I agree with your thoughts, Selwood was average early, especially the lack of pace and awareness in getting caught in the first quarter and turning it over (Smothered).

However after that, and probably after the half, he seemed to really work hard. A couple of clearances from the middle, one a flashy burst from the bounce looked ominous.

But in a team that clearly dominated, it is hard to pick a NAB rising star. I think if Tomahawk has a similar game this week, he surely will get the nod.

Agreed. Joel had some nice touches also but he did look to have a little bit of a case of the fumbles at times. He'll get better with a few more games in him and he does know how to find the ball, no worries there. Once the nerves settle a bit more and he adjusts to the pace he'll be set.

Tom was good, took his chances but it's not like he took the game by the scruff or anything. He looks the goods but let's not get too carried away.

LOL. I thought that Pakistan reference was funny as well. :)
