COLLINGWOOD
Seven Magpies who began their AFL careers on the rookie list played in the 2010 AFL premiership, testament to the club's remarkable development of late picks over the years. Dane Swan, Ben Johnson and Tyson Goldsack were also selected past pick No.50 so it's not a surprise Collingwood has several candidates as late draft finds. Marley Williams (rookie list 2012) is the pick of the recent draft steals in a list that includes Jarryd Blair (rookie list 2009), Ben Sinclair (pick 62, 2009), Paul Seedsman (pick 76, 2010), Jack Frost (rookie list 2013) and Sam Dwyer (rookie list 2013).

BEST RECENT STEAL:Marley Williams
Williams is the pick of the bunch after being put on the rookie list with pick No.35 in 2012, although premiership player Jarryd Blair can feel aggrieved. Williams finished seventh in the club best and fairest last season, displaying his poise in heavy traffic and a tough, head-over-the-ball style. A shoulder injury interrupted his first season and then he missed the first seven weeks this season as he awaited sentencing for a fight in 2012. Coach Nathan Buckley has made no secret of the fact Collingwood is better with Williams in the team, although he is yet to hit his straps in 2014.

THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY: Stewart Crameri
It's hard to be critical of Collingwood given its record in recent seasons but the recruiting department might be left cursing their luck after they chose Jack Carter at pick No.34 in the 2010 rookie draft rather than seizing on a speedy forward called Stewart Crameri, who Essendon selected at pick No.43. A quick, strong forward to complement Travis Cloke might be handy right now. - Peter Ryan

If the one that got away is Stewart Crameri, I'm happy with that because I don't even rate him.

Lol at Crameri being a hack. He's no superstar but we are lacking genuine goal kickers and that he is. The perfect 3rd tall forward.

I think our drafting has been a little over rated if anything, yes we remain competitive but I'd rate Geelong's drafting better than ours over the past 7-8 years or so. After all we play for premierships and the three more successful sides than us in recent times are Hawks, Swans and Cats and only the Cats have really done it primarily through drafting.

The next 3-4 years will tell us just how good HIne is, if he's really that good we should be challenging and winning grand finals in that period.

I honestly wish theyd leave most of the forward line to White and play cloke to the flanks/wings to deliver the ball in. Open the forward line up!!!

But you get my point. Missing out on/passing on Crameri is a relatively minor sin compared to some of the others our recruiters have made...

One thing I am highly critical of is lack of foot skills as a requirement, if we aren't careful we may end up a team of triers who lack polish but give 110%, our last weeks back 6 is testament to this and I am afraid our forward half isn't a hell of a lot better. As a team we really lack xfactor and class.

I think the players we have out add a lot of foot skill though.

Add Fasolo, Reid, Scharenberg and Freeman and our disposal efficiency goes up straight away IMO, but yeah in our current team it has to be a concern, especially when compared to the other top teams in the comp.

Agree 100%. Hawthorn have been particularly good at picking up established AFL players on a needs' basis, as well as drafting players with excellent disposal skills. Geelong's younger player ooze class, though injuries have limited their opportunities to strut their stuff on the big green stage e.g. Motlop.

I think that time will be kinder to Chris Dawes than many bigfooty posters currently believe. Shannon Cox could perhaps have made more of himself with greater dedication to getting the most out of his ability. Hawthorn, Geelong and Sydney also missed out on Tippett so Hine is not the only one who passed him over.

Don't get me wrong, Dawes was a decent player for us at his best, but passing on Tippett was a blunder. Then again, would Tippett have been less of a mercenary were he with us?

Well everyone passed on him in the 2007 Draft which was a very weak draft

Tippett went in 2006, which was actually a decent draft.

If you want blunders from 2007, trading pick 14 for that log of Wood could qualify...

The whole 2007 Off-Season was a Blunder. The only Bad one for Hine.

I was thinking off 2005 and that was good Top End but Not Much Depth
