nason?
taylah?
we all know riewoldt will be there :thumbsu:

I've got a feeling we should have 4 blokes permantly in the 50

Riewoldt of course at FF
I reckon Jake King should buzz around Jack's feet all game, could snaffle 2-4 goals a match if he plays like he did towards the end of last year
Griffiths at CHF, got a huge tank and a thumping kick
And last but not least Troy Talor should be given 22 games in a pocket/flank, i can really see him being something special

The last 2 possies can go down to resting midfielders (Morton, Edwards, Houli etc etc) and/or a ruckman ala' Vickery or Graham taking a breather

i think griffiths will have a big season kicking 30 plus if he gets over his injurys
king will be another i think will kick 30 plus and add alot of sefensive pressure if given the chance
and the coach said has said that vickery will spend most time up there im not convinced will will have a good season

vickery will certianly play upforward if griff cant get fit enough. king was great in the last 4-5 games last year and appears to have reinnvented himself as a defensive forward. :thumbsu:

nahas is a bit hit and miss and im not too sure, could have just been second year blues, but if he gets back to his first year best and applies so good forward pressure will be in there for sure.

Riewoldt. of course :)

Morton will play mostly wing and middle, with stints up forward when we need another option.

Troy taylor. hopefully is over his home sickness and troubles, will be handy.

Post. never been to sure on, needs more game time too. but hasnt he swung down back before too?

Nason, im not too sure if hes fully fit, or just second year blues, but hasnt played much of preseason, loved him last year. can def push for best 22. good kick from what i got to see.

white, will prob be a sub, defensive forward occaionally midfield push as he is damn fast.

mcdonald. prob mostly two's. but if plays a few good games will push and get selected, could play late in the seaosn?

i think griffiths will have a big season kicking 30 plus if he gets over his injurys

He will kick 30 goals+ based off what exactly? Riewoldt only managed 18 goals in his 2nd year.

Griffiths is so overrated on this board it isn't funny. IF he gets over his injuries and that's a BIG IF, I would have him well behind Vickery and also behind Post for a spot in the 22. Should play the majority of the year at Coburg. Everyone is so convinced he will become a superstar if he wasn't made of tissue paper and stops getting injured, I haven't seen it yet. He's done very little.

Griffiths and Post.

Very underrated by so called "experts" on this board.:D

Jack can't do everything so we need these two back for our forward line to blossom.

TV is going great atm in the 2 practice games but we also need the above 2 and also we need crumbers.

1980 KB was the master of it.

Forward line will be massively underdone come Round One.

The middle of the year will see the true test.

vickery - unproven. taken as a ruckman.
post - unproven more of a chb than chf.
king - dud.
white - bigger dud.
nahas - another dud.
griffiths - unproven will miss the first month.
macdonald - unproven first yr
nason - ordinary undersized more a running player.
taylor - unproven
hicks - unproven very small.
miller - 30 yr old rookie says it all.
morton - has shown he can kick goals thats one.
jack - another who can kick goals thats two.
as far as proven forwards go the barrell is almost empty.

That's what happens when you draft kids. You get a lot of "unprovens" and "potentials". But that is not a bad thing.

Much rather give games to those young guys than players like Miller. Forward line is a work in progress, as is the defence, and the ruck, and probably still the middle (top end talent is good, but lack depth).

We are young, it will take time. Be patient, we're doing it properly this time.

quite harsh, has only played 5 games in the pocket and kicked 11 goals, which i think is a reasonable return

played 15 games last yr and apart from 1 or 2 the majority were underwhelming.

and im more patient than most mainly because i at least acknowledge the reality of where we are at. you would think every single player mentioned will be great for us if you listened to the ferals on this site.

of those players mentioned on the op list i think 5 need to go and there is doubt about others as well.

if we do it properly we will keep on cutting until we find players good enough.

Just curious santa...who would you put in our forward line then...?!?!...

i have stated on numerous occasions that i think jack and two of post vickery taylor and griffiths will make up the tall options. i continually say morton houli cotchin connors and possibly conca should rotate thru there atm because of a dearth of proven forwards. i think morton should spend most of his time in the forward line atm. we cant afford to ignore a 40 plus a season goal kicker.

im all for fast tracking macdonald give him as many games as is possible.

and then im left with the unenviable choice of king nahas or hicks as a small crumbing forward. my preference is hicks. but even i have to admit atm of the 3 king is currently the best option. this does not mean i rate him. if these blokes perform poorly play another mid thru there possibly houli.

lets see rnd 1 v carlton. based on preseason form and the need for good structure and balance also taking into consideration king moore griffiths and farmer are not likely to play due to suspension and injury.
also let me say before hand that i would like to play gourdis and hicks but their preseasons dont warrant it to date.
b/ newman* - thursfield - grimes.
hb batchelor* - astbury - deledio*.
c/ grigg* - martin* - conca*
hf/ macdonald - post* - morton*
f/ vickery* - riewoldt - quality quick small goal kicker. we dont have one. atm we have king suspended nahas or hicks. my preference atm would be to rotate someone like houli* thru there or connors*.
r/ graham* - cotchin* - foley*.
int/ derickx* - tuck* - connors* - jackson*/contin*.

all those with an asterix can be rotated thru several positions.

Is there room for Jack & 2 of Vickery, Griffiths or Post?
Even though Taylor is now 192cm I still see hem as a tallish small if you know what I mean... certainly not KP tall so I'm not including him.

I would say that the Tiger 'Master Plan' if it works out is to have Jack and Griff as the 2 bigs & either Vickery or Post playing the 3rd tall option, 2nd string ruck, resting on the bench combo role.

Assuming Griff progresses & gets fit then Vickery and Post fight it out for the other spot I would think.

the ends of the ground are where are going to struggle and be exposed this year. in terms of the forward line we only have really one lock and that is jack.

nahas- has a chance to prove himself this year, he is piss weak over the ball but he does tackle alot
king- is only getting a game because of the sheer shitness of the list, will probably line up again this year in the pocket, im prepared to give him a go as we have sfa
macdonald- unproven, probably wont do a whole lot
white- a hack but will probably play a fair bit on that HFF due to his pace and ability to do the odd inspirational bit of play
nason- so over-rated after last year, marathon man, predator etc etc...very slow, kicking is ok and doesnt get much of it.
griffiths- is rated by the coaching staff and by a lot here on big footy, is probably that missing link in terms of an alternate forward target
post- not sure, looks better defending
hicks- looks a hack
vickery- im not a fan and not sure about this forward line move, would rather post or dare i say it, miller
miller- hacker

the best we can hope for, as someone has already mentioned is to play a 4 prong forward line and two very high HFFs, almost as 2nd wingers and try get in behind the defenders and allow jack as much room as possible.

this is why nason and white will probs play HFF and roam very high up the ground and run back, post or vickery will also play out of the square or in and around the 50, king and a resting mid/ ruckman will make up the rest of the forward line.

Vickery - Potential is there up forward just needs time to develop.
Post - Same sort of story needs to be given at least 12-15 AFL games up forward this year.
King - Best option for a small forward we have ATM but if he can't maintain the form he showed last year should be replaced.
White - Needs to set Coburg on fire and then become a consistent AfL player.
Nahas - Same as White but realistically needs improvements that god just didn't give him (a bigger, stronger body).
Griffiths - Nothing wrong here just needs to be managed correctly as we don't want to lose him to long term injury.
MacDonald - Should get as least 3-6 AFL games but could get even more if he shows good form.
Morton - Needs to play more game time up forward then in the midfield as he is a genuine goal threat. Should play 22 games this year.
Nason - I'm not ready to give up yet but he should no longer be getting easy games as there are many mids ahead of him and he is really fighting for one spot up forward. Needs to either develop his game as a mid or figure out how to sneak 2 goals a game.
Taylor - 11-22 games this season and is definitely a promising prospect.
Hicks - Needs to put pressure on small forwards with solid VFL form.

I think there is probably at least 1 spot for our mids to rest as well. In reality our mids probably provide us with better options up forward rather than the likes of nahas, white and nason.

I'm probably thinking something like this for round 1

HF: Houli(1), Post(1-2), Morton(1-2)
F: Vickery(1-2), Riewoldt(3-5), Taylor(1-2)

() expected average goal return

Might be wishful thinking but i reckon that group could manage somewhere between 8-14 goals a game.

I still don't understand it when people say Post looks better as a defender.
At AFL level Post has looked completely lost down back. He may have played his final U18 year at CHB, but that's not where he played for much of his junior career. How well he plays the position at AFL level is what matters and so far he has looked much more comfortable up forward.

I thought he looked pretty comfortable everytime he's played in defence
