Well, another draft has completed and again we have picked a midfielder with our first round selection.

After the addition of Kane Lucas our midfield consists of:

Juddy
Murph
Gibbs
Yarran
Simpson
Mclean
Carrots
Lucas

-Russle, Walker, O'Keefe, Robinson and Davies, who will probably be given spells through the midfeild

- Our Ruckmen will consist Kreuzer/Warnock/Hampson

Looking at these players i just admire the amount of potential our midfield has. Soon our midfield will be of comparison or better than the Midfield of Geelong and the Brisbane of 01, 02, 03.

What do you guys think?

Can they take us to the next premiership?

How do you think they compare to the midfield of Geelong and Brisbane of 01, 02 and 03?

Yarran couldn't run out of sight on a dark night.

I've settled down, and think I can see what they're trying to do next year, and thats win stoppages. I think the game plan is centered around this.

Our defenders and forwards wont have to win the ball, all they have to do is not lose and create a draw at contests. Our ruck and clearance specialists will do the rest. I think this is the reasoning behind drafting midfielders with a history in the half forward line. Plus taking the pressure of developmental players like Hendo and allow them to develop outside of week by week scrutiny.

By bolstering the midfield further, we now have a high rotation gun midfield. They're are planning to have possible injuries covered, and be able to run the opposition off their feet when everyone is fit and firing.

Its not so much the gambit I initially thought it would be. *still* a KP prospect would be nice...

I thought our midfield was good this year, but with the addition of McLean and now Lucas, it's going to be bordering on unstoppable from next year onwards. Can't wait to see them all in action next year.

:thumbsu: As well as the continued improvement of our rucks meaning the smalls get more supply, and the outstanding fitness Walker is showing, things are looking pretty good.

Don't forget Grigg and also Joseph who is our tagger.

I wonder which midfielder we will draft next year

BTW I'm happy to have a quality midfielder like Lucas be a part of our club but wait till our forward line gets exposed next year and we will see how smart this decision was...

Honestly, do people even think before they post the following?

How would Talia fix our forwardline next year?

I doubt that he'll play more than five games for the Crows who have Davis, Bock, Rutten, McKernan, Sellar, Tippett, etc. ahead of Talia.

Lucas will be just as good forward as Talia.

There isn't a rule that Yarran and Lucas can't be damaging forwards and match winners because they're not 193 cms.

Paul Chapman says hello.

It was funny to see someone say we mucked up our pick because we didn't go tall.

They went on to pump up Talia as someone who could even play through the midfield at AFL level.

The irony is delicious.

You must be unhappy with Gibbs, Yarran and Murphy if you think we should have gone tall at any cost

Kennedy was a dud two years ago, but apparently we mucked up the Judd trade too. :D

Why would you say I'm unhappy with Gibbs and Murphy? When we drafted them we had to address every field not just our forwardline. Currently, our Ruck stocks are good, our defensive stocks are good, our midfield is awesome, but our forward line?

The facts are the tall targets are those who have the job of taking pack marks and crashing the packs to give the small forwards opportunities. Name one small forward who has kicked 60-70 goals a season on a consistent basis. The reason Chapman does so well is because of the presence that Mooney and Hawkins have. They force the opposition to have to defenders guard them leaving guys like a Chapman, or a Steve J with more opportunities. Only time will really tell, but if our forward line crumbles due to a lack of options next year, I bet you'll be the first to complain.

BTW Talia wouldn't have solved our forward line problems immediately, only a developed AFL forward would do that. But given time he could develop along with Hendo and maybe even waite. The games he would get for the Crows is totally irrelevant, because he most likely would play almost every match next year if we had drafted him due to our lack of tall options in the forward line.

And I never said Kennedy was a dud. Ever. The only ones who would say he's a dud are the idiots who think he was going to develop as quick as a midfielder.

im with u tanks alot, hopefully ratten and hughes days are numbered and the quicker they go the better, they really make me sick. FFS how they can pass on a 194cm running machine KP who can play anywhere is beyond me, players like TALIA are hard to come by , players like LUCAS are a dime a dozen. To win games u need a spine and what we have in our spine atm is good but not great and if ratts and hughes think that they can can cover players like rewolt kosy brown fev bradshaw buddy roughie and i can go on and on and on and on then they are simply kidding themselves .Im that depressed im not going to even start on our forward line GOD HELP US !

yeah. wait till our defence, midfield, forward line and ruckman. all gel together as a football team. looked to that. once the team and players all gel as one. become a team. watch out. where big name foward to put the icing on the cake in the foward line. remember we are cashed up in 2010:thumbsu:. If you had the choice right now to pick up Chapman or Mooney who would you pick?

Because Lucas has been judged to have a hell of a lot more potential and Talia not even rated top 20 by some. Although he might fit a postition I would rather someone of class every time. You can never have enough good midfielders.

Don't compare Lucas to Chapman because he's nothing like him at all.

Compare him to Pendlebury. Also don't compare Talia to Mooney. Talia is way more mobile/versatile and if it didn't work for him up forward, he can play down back and then we could swing Waite forward, we don't have that luxury now.

Also who cares what other clubs rate him? The Crows obviously rated him high as did all the journalists and draft experts who contacted recruiting managers to get their rating on him so they could create their phantom drafts. Talia was never outside top 15 FYI.

And this never having enough good midfielders is bullshit, tell me which team is going to walk onto the park with 22 'good' midfielders.

Lets compare a player that just get drafted by a team with players that already have AFL experience. :thumbsu:
