Our Five most important players on the list (in no particular order):
Clement (injured)
Rocca (down on form)
Fraser (doing OK)
Didak (missed a lot with inj)
Buckley (not played yet) - not sure if he will be in this top 5 anymore

Our Five most important players this year:
Burns
Lockyer
Swan
Shaw
Fraser

Out of our top 5 only Fraser could be considered as being near his best.

Compare this to the top sides most important:
Bartel, Ablett, Mooney, Scarlett, Milburn/Ottens they are all on fire.
& the bottom side:
Richo, N. Brown, Simmonds, Bowden, Coghlan only one in Bowden doing any good.

If 4 of your 5 bests are out or down on form you probalbly should be struggling in the bottom 8. We have done very well to be in the position we are but at some stage missing those players will hurt us as it did against Melbourne. On the upside we have a fair bit of firepower left come the end of the year.

It is often said the top 5 is as important as the bottom 5. In our best 22 who are our bottom 5 players? - this is hard to decide but I suspect they are all going very well as compared to say the Tigers bottom 5.

Our most important are:

Fraser
Cloke
Clement
Presti
Shaw
Rocca

If you asked me to have Cloke & Presti in the starting 22 over Buckley & Didak I would say no thankyou.

Clokey is going nicely but his time will be the next few years. I am sure he will replace Rocca in that list very soon. I think Shaw will be the one to replace Buckley in the list next year.

I still think a fit Bucks will have a similar role to what Hird is playing at Ess. Hird would still have to be in their top 5.

Clement
Didak
Fraser
Lockyer
Rocca

James Clement would have been the difference had he played on Queens Birthday. He always beats Robertson, his track record on talls and smalls is perfect.

Tarkyn Lockyer, in partiuclarly, has always been an important player but we always used to give him shit. I think he would make a good captain, but it wouldn't be ideal with James Clement next in line and then Heath Shaw - or one of the younger players - so he may have missed the boat.

Rocca and Fraser are our most important players to the CFC, and have been for 5 years. Buckley is important as a leader, but not to the structure...same as Clement...he was All-Australian and a best and fairest in years we failed to make the finals, and this year we have won games without him...he is important to have in the side, but he can be covered, and doesn't win matches by being there.

I think Didak is becoming more and more important. His pressure, intimidation and assists have a huge advantage to our side. He is also a top 50 player in the competition, come top 25

rocca draws a good defender even if he is down on form and can kick bags, if he goes down we have no one to replace him

Alright someone has to go first and get their heads on the chopping block. Worst 5, and I will qualify this later, so don't start screaming until I finish, please.

Medhurst-should have delivered more, experienced player.
Rocca-leading goalkicker but not playing as well as last year, has given away frees.
R Shaw- experieced player....well same as Medhust except at other end of ground.
Thomas-not having the same affect, holds on too long at times, has to play smarter now he is getting more attention.
Maxwell-step it up, needs to keep delivering.

These are the bottom 5 older players, yep they are a lot better than the younger guys and often draw the oppo's best every week, however even a couple of extra goals to Rocca or a bit more nouse from Thomas is just what is needed to cover the young blokes. And yes Thomas is a newbie ,but I rate him so highly and this is a back handed compliment to include him on the list. By no means saying they aren't pulling their weight, and all are working their guts out, so not faulting them, just saying that they are down on form a little. OK, let the flogging begin.

Medhurst - Agree.
Rocca - Besides last game has been reasonably good for the Pies this year. Disagree.
R. Shaw - Probably a bit stiff considering his early form but still gets beaten by his man too often. Agree.
Thomas - Hasn't been really good so far this year but he's still only in his second year. Disagree.
Maxwell - Agree.

I'd sub in Holland and Benny Johnson.

Holland has played 5 games now and while he looks like he's starting to get back into it he has been well below where a senior player of his experience should be.

Johnson has been well down on his lofty standards last year. Needs to improve in the second half if we're to make a solid go at the finals.

Yep, I did bugger up on Thomas, Johnson has had a lot of kicks but still isn't doing as well as he should. Johno pips Thomas.

Rocca not having a good year? At least he is having an impact when he is not kicking a few every game except the Melbourne game. He may not have kicked as much goals as this time last year but he has been huge for us this year.

R.Shaw has been an important player this year, he may get beaten by his man but the positives outweigh the negatives in he has a far bigger impact than his oponent usually, we need other players to do jobs on players anyway.

Holland has been disapointing but seems to be getting back into form. Johnson has been disapointing until late. Maxwell has struggled to cement himself as a more senior player. Medhurst has been ok, he is an enigmatic forward pocket and has done some tough work despite it never really coming together for him. He has fit into our side pretty well and has done his fair share of tough stuff so we can't complain.

Fraser is again struggling for fitness but is going alright. Richards and Bryan have both disapointed me tbh. I think recruiting Bryan was the right move (even over Cameron Cloke) however. I'd rather Richards in the side at the moment to see what he can do, he has paid his dues at Willy with 2 good games and should bring some more confidence into the game.

Watch it mate. We don't take kindly to positive talk about Joel Bowden in this forum.

Almost worth having the mods give you a holiday.

1. ROCCA -when he plays well we always WIN!!!
2. BUCKLEY -At FF he will free up so many others
3. H.SHAW -Run out of the backline is just so important
4. CLEMENT -Takes the best defender every week and squashes them.
5. PENDELBURY- This guy will become more and more important with his ball carry, running through the lines, and vision.

COP THAT!

H.SHAW
A.DIDAK
S.BURNS
T.LOCKYER
J.CLEMENT
A.ROCCA

i believe these players are most important to the collingwood line-up

plus the addition
BUCKLEY
LICURIA

rocca kicks 5 against freo and because he gets mauled outside the rules last game he is down on form
