With such a great start these 4 could be season defining. A red hot Freo away, the premiers, Geelong, who have beaten us at the last few starts, Brisbane who love getting up for us and the Dogs looking for some retribution. We need to win minimum 2 of these. Then the Melbourne rematch. Hopefully we won't take them for granted. If we can turn at half way 8-3 or better, we should be a real show for top 4. Still a long way to go though.

cant wait for friday night!

going to be an intense game!!!

two tops sides, get ready :D

hopefully freo come out on top ;)

Friday night next week is gonna be a cracker. Friday night game of the year so far with 2 exciting teams on their way to better things. Expect to see 44 contributors and the game to go right to the wire.
Maybe bias but Freo by 9 points being at Subi.:thumbsu:

Not just 4 games, the next SIX games are HUGE.

Freo away.
Geelong.
Brisbane away.
Dogs away.
Melbourne QB.
Sydney away.

That is a horrible stretch of games, and if we can win 4 of them, I'll be very happy with how we'll be sitting. That would make us 10-3, with 9 games to go. Box seat for a top two finish.

Must keep our intensity up and skills clean. Go Pies!!!

[Also, we go interstate in 4 of our next 8 weeks... let's hope it doesn't take a toll on us later on].

I don't understand how we are already versing Werstern Bulldogs AGAIN when we haven't played some other teams once yet (e.g. Richmond). :s

It is a tough few weeks ahead, but I'm remaining very confident after what I've seen the past few weeks. Set shots on goal need to be improved, I think, though. We wont get as many chances against better sides to have crumb goals like we did tonight in so many occasions.

Most confident i have been since i lost faith in MM (pre 2007) that this team can win a flag, so looks like I may have I was wrong thread coming but how good would that be cause it will only be after a flag!

The games already don't look as hard as they did;

Freo; Very tough.

Geelong; enough said.

Brisbane; Lost 3 in a row, with geelong next week, falling apart, and Drummond and Brennan got bad injuries tonight.

Dogs; Struggling, infighting about delivery to Hall.

Melbourne; Got beat by North, enough said.

Sydney; It's Sydney at the Olympic Stadium, don't worry.

Definitely like to agree on that. We always smash them as of late, but still, you'd be silly to pencil in a win against a team like the swans. It seems this year the past counts for nothing.

The nest six weeks might just determine how good the pies actually are for the rest of the year i suppose. Not rocket surgery but if they are the "side to beat" then they should win most of these. I'd love for them to win them all but the realist in me says you cant win them all.

Just looking forward to friday night. I'm just glad my brother's wedding is on sat all of a sudden (thought the freo game was on the sat night for some reason!).

I still reckon we'll beat Sydney, and Melbourne shouldn't be an issue if we're at all freaking serious.

The next four are toughies though, and the two "easier" opponents (by last year's ladder positions anyway) are road trips interstate. Sucks to have them one after the other like that, but hopefully we give a good account of ourselves and don't come out of those four games completely knackered! Rotations both during and between games may be the key.

Rocket Science and Brain Surgery. Never heard of rocket surgery. :D

Bulldogs don't seem to be the dominant side I thought they would be this year. I like them as a club so disappointing from that respect, but I am not too fussed we are playing them again so soon...Better now thant later in the season if they hit form.

I think having Hall is actually hurting them (and my dreamteam!)...they have lost all structures.

Freo match great...but BRING ON GEELONG!!!

Gonna be a cracker few weeks and I am sure our team will stand up and really make the footy world take notice (moreso that already that is)!!!

It's an established mixed metaphor. I use it quite a bit. Good yuks. ;)

It's like the Pies' Wall of Power featuring our Shit-Down Defence and now the Dawes/Didak driven Crash-Poke Forward Thrust. Language too must rise to the challenge.:thumbsu:

The next 4 weeks and then the rest of the weeks after that
We are only 7 weeks into a season that sees us and probably Essendon with the toughest fixtures, having said that we have started off the way we had to if we are going to get into the top 8 let alone top 4, but it is way too early to dream and the fact that the ladder is so tight up top we need to look at each game the same and not get sucked into letting our guard down against the so called weaker sides (its these weaker sides that have hurt us in the past). Let's just chug along and see what happens......

The next 4-5 weeks crucial to our success

In the next 5 weeks The Pies meet Freo at Subiaco,Geelong at the G,Brisbane at the Gabba,Western Bulldogs at Etihad, and a rejuvanated Melbourne on the big stage on Queens birthday.

We must win all or most of these games to set ourselves up for the second half of the season and a strong tilt at the flag,by securing a top 2 position.Top 4 is also good but if teams like Freo or Sydney make it who wants to play FREO or any interstyae team on their turf during a final?

Would rather consolidate a top 2 possie and play on the G.

So the next few weeks will show us exactely where we are tracking moving through the half way mark of the season.
By then some teams will start playing better footy and others will start tiring.

I hope the Pies will be right on track to blast forward and consolidate a top 2 position on the ladder then a strong tilt to grab that elusive flag.
We should be playing our best footy closer to the end of the season primed for the finals.

There will be a few surprises i reckon as we move forward.

Your thoughts ?

Re: The next 4-5 weeks crucial to our success

Was going to make a thread about this myself.

A bit concerned about the next month. Mainly Freo and Geelong. We're letting through WAY too many goals at the minute, and our next month is a BAD time to be leaking so badly.

The back six needs to tighten up quick smart, or we'll be on the receiving end of some decent hidings.

Re: The next 4-5 weeks crucial to our success

There was a thread just like this a few weeks ago. I disagree with this one though. What's crucial to success is that we beat the teams we're supposed to. We're going to lose games this year, no way around it, we're not going to have a St Kilda like dominance no matter how much you want it. Freo at Subi is one of the toughest games this year it looks like, dropping it won't ruin our season, nor will losing to Geelong.

What needs to happen is that we don't drop games against Brisbane, Sydney, Essendon, Carlton or any of the other lower teams.

Lock up the top 4 spot and hopefully have the players fresh, fit and firing for finals, that should be the plan.
