Failed coaches at other clubs? They don’t interest me.

How many "successful" coaches at "successful" club choose to move on of their own volition.

Bringing in a new coach is an exercise in identifying which unproven assistant is ready to step up, or which senior coach who didn't work out at their last club still has something to offer.

It's either that or wave the chequebook around try to poach a top-end senior coach, but how many of those do you think want to throw away the chance at a flag with their strong side to roll the dice on a bunch of kids who "could be anything".

Best realistic option for me is a Ratten or Voss who had a crack too early, but has since done a solid apprenticeship as an assistant to develop the areas they discovered they were lacking in the first time around. They're going to be much more prepared.

Would think it makes a statement if Barker doesn't get picked.

Was second to Bolton to become our senior coach, appeared to be the 'senior assistant' in recent years and wasn't he head of high performance or strategy?
He should be the interim coach based on that, but if he's bypassed then clearly the club no longer rates him.

I would have Teague as interim coach, then employ Paul Roos as director of coaching to oversee for 2yrs, help guide a guy like Teague or Bassett.
I would also stipulate that the list needs to be stabilized, no wholesale changes in the first year.
P.S I hope Bolton sacks us.

Ben Hart has been involved with our forward line and defensive portfolios. He's also supposedly keen on moving back to Melbourne (his son plays footy there) and has also worked with Collingwood. Not sure if he has senior coach aspirations but could be an option.
