Kangaroos had 12 wins last year. We would die for that. How can you call him a failure FFS.

Ease up.

He had a long run at NM, and was let go this year. He's a "failure" in respects to what the OP was saying we should avoid.

Unproven assistants.
Assistants who previously "failed" at being a senior coach.
Senior coaches who have "failed" at their current club.
Mid tier senior coaches who could be lured across.
Senior coaches who are currently "successful".

That's what is effectively on offer.

My preference is of course for a currently successful coach, but they're unlikely to be interested.
Next would be the second-chance assistants, because I think they're the most likely to have "learnt" from their previous mistakes.
A recent "failure" would need to have a lot going for them, and all I can say for Scott is that he did an OK job with an ordinary list. Maybe, for me.
Mid-tier coaches like Lyon don't interest me, I want more.
And after Bolton, I don't think the club will want to go for an unproven assistant, nor do I think one would get the best from our players.

We need someone proven. Otherwise we should have just let Bolts run out the year.

The call has been made early so I'm guessing we have someone in particular in mind.

There are candidates available such as:

- Blake Caracella (ready to be the head coach)

- John Blakey (done a long apprenticeship)

- Scott Burns (same)

- Brad Scott (I am a fan)

- Michael Voss (I still have doubts)

- Brett Ratten (I doubt he wants to come back, he should never have been fired in the 1st place)

Unlike at other times in our putrid 2 decades of decay (apart from Ratten years), this time the list is primed and ready. Probably 18 months more maturity needed, but I genuinely believe it is loaded with A-grade talent such as: Cripps, Weitering, McKay, C-Curnow, Walsh, Setterfield, Stocker, Dow, SPS, Fisher and Cunningham.

There is NO REBUILD required.

If I was a prospective coach I would want this job.

We will rise fast. This year we should have been an 8 win team. With good strategy and development we can be a 9 or 10 win next year.

I honestly don’t care who coaches us provided they do a few things

1. Keep this young group together

2. Somehow help attract a mature star or 3

3. Hoist that 17th premiership cup high so we can all see it from the stands.

Another dark day with another coach sacked.

But there’s one thing that will always be a constant with us, that big beautiful logo on our jumper that we all love so much.

Sure most of us have different opinions and thoughts on our clubs direction and what not, but we all love the club in our own way.

Most of us don’t know each other from a bar of soap, but we’re all in it together, no matter who coaches us

Not too fussed over Teague being interim coach. With Bolts gone, will be interesting to see the fate of others and the playing style we adopt for the remainder of the season. On surface assessment only as I'm not privy to enough info, the ones I would retain are Teague and Amos.....and mayyyyyybe Bruce, maybe.

This is the landscape IMO.

Poaching from the other 17 clubs:
  • Clarko- Judd (as a Legend of the game) should rock up on his doorstep with a bottle of red like Clarko does to others - 0% chance but have to try, can probably put Bucks no Hardwick in same category
  • Simpson and Longmire - yes please premiership coaches, no "oldhead" required, rumoured North going after both, are either interested in coming home?? It's the only question that needs answering for me and you'd be going really hard...Simpson 1st choice
  • Pyke, Fagan, Ross, B Scott, Dew, Cameron, B Scott, Hinkley, Goodwin, Bevo - don't want for a variety of reasons
  • Worsfold, Richo...these would really get my dander up
Recycled (i.e recently former sacked) senior Coaches:
  • Vossy I could get on board with if the growth is there - certainly has the standing in the game and Ports been a pretty good mid group under him
  • Roos is a tick from me but is he interested? If not I'd still be really keen to have him in that senior support role if we appoint a new young coach
  • Leppa probably still has too many scars, not for me as Bolts replacement as was worse with Brissie
  • Ratts is interesting, good midfield coach, the optics of going back there are strange...not sure on this one.
  • Hird is a firm negatori from me, bad optics, would bring more pressure to the club and above all - not sure he could actually coach?
Highly rated assistants
I don't actually know a lot about these guys other than what you read in the media, but Longmuir and Caracella seem to be the current flavour. If we go this path then a I want a strategically and game smart coach as the primary skill set as this is the next stage of our evolution. Surround them with whatever support they need...ideally some Bolts types who are great at communicating, but someone else is driving the tactics.

Mitchell is an interesting one and so is Hodge but more as assistants as too early to throw both in - if we go this path I don't want to waste another 3 years for the coach to find his feet and iron out his kink due to being an inexperienced assistant.

Barker - No - and it's an indictment on our club that Bolts has come and gone and we are still stuck with him. Every line he has coached goes backward and bloody hell last year he was our Director of Strategy and Performace (IIRC) which is effectively what Russell is doing...madness

Probably many more out there but this was the quick brain dump....lets rip it apart!!!

EDIT: Forgot about Scotty Burns...certainly worth a look at!!. Campo and Hart no thanks!

Clarkson 0% and is contracted until 2021. Our coach is already locked in as a I mentioned last week - BB days outnumbered and we have a coach lined up who was very out of favour at his last club. He has a current contract and it will surprise a lot of people but he already has a relationship with a few players on the list.
?

Mitchell and Hodge aren't ready. Firm no.

Caracella is strategically sound and has done a long and succesfull apprenticeship.
I don't know if he has the nasty streak that most good coaches have.
I think we need a firm head coach, there are times our teams needs to have a good rev-up.
I don't know enough about Caracella if he has that in him, if he does then he should be the top of our list.

I would fine with Brad Scott and Caracella/Longmuir as his top assistant.

I would keep Dale Amos, he can hold his head high.

We must MUST keep Andrew Russell.

I would have liked the club to have had an experienced senior coach lined up before sacking bolts it seems like a knee jerk reaction to me...

"Mitchell and Hodge aren't ready"....you kidding me....did Kennedy, Barassi, Roos, Jeans, Blight, Sheedy, Matthews do apprenticeships.
Ever considered why are the Lions are travelling so well...L Hodge has a lot to do with it.

Our young team needs someone who is 40 years old (plus) and who can come in ready to roll immediately.

No more training wheels, learn on the job types.

Game has changed, Voss is the only coach from memory who didn't do an apprenticeship and that worked well.

Would like Roughy as a playing coach, we are so bereft of on-field leadership it's not funny.

Our team will function a lot better if we can get Docherty on the park.

Cripps & Doc (experienced hands) with Weiters/Walsh as the junior leaders.

I think in time we will be fine with those guys leading our team.

Game hasn't changed, 18 onfield, 1 ball, two sets of goals, get the pill and kick thru the big sticks.
