Well it will work !
Regular season or pre season...ability is ability
You asked what did fev do in his first 3 years. Edwards has had pre seasons too but done nothing there either. Or NAB cup.
Well as i stated he kicked 12. He did have opponents you realise, also trying to establish there own careers so credit where credits due.
Edwards would be lucky to kick 12 goals for the year.
I hope i can be proved wrong cos like you i am a blues member but dont see much in him.

My thoughts were correct.

Aside from 1 preseason game, you haven't shown much else to support your argument.

Go figure.

Read it slowly again. It makes sense.

I'd be happy to see Jake kick 12 in a VFL, intra-club or regional challenge match.

As would I, of course. When have I said differently?

I'd say the answer is yes.

Fev 30 odd games for 50 odd goals (in a team that played finals)

Edwards 5 games for 4 goals (in a team that... well you know)

I'm not bagging Edwards here, but Fev's talent was far more obvious in his first few years at the club than Jake's has been thus far.

Did we have a dominant full forward like Fev back in Fev's first 30 odd games? I'd say no. It therefore goes without saying that a player will kick more goals if given more opportunities to do so.

I understand that Fev is more talented than Edwards, and I'm not arguing the contrary. My argument is that it is ridiculous to write Edwards off based on his first 2 Home & Away seasons (note: NOT PRESEASONS!) when compared to Fevola's start to his career (note: SEE PREVIOUS NOTE!!).

Come now, no need for such silly comments or I'll have to start with the when have I said that you said differently approach.

Perhaps better to try another tack anyway. How's this... I would find it meaningful if Edwards kicked 12 goals in any of those matches.

Players create their own opportunities. Edwards hasn't forced his way into a team that cries out for goal kickers. When Fev was a young'n he demanded selection in a forward line much more dynamic than the one Jake is facing.

The only part of your argument I disputed was that Edwards has done as much as Fev in his first three H&A seasons. I stand by the fact that it simply is not true.

To tell you the truth, I don't think the blue boys have to worry too much about the next full forward at the club. Fev will still be around kicking bags of goal a the next few years. I know it never hurts to be pro-active, but I think this is a bit to pro-active. Plus, we are one of the youngest team in the AFL player-wise and the up-and-coming talent we currently have is amazing. Don't worry, I think we'll be just fine.:thumbsu::thumbsu:

Wiggins can be his replacement. He's quick on the lead, strong mark and is aggressive. He kicks well but not as far as Fev. That will allow all the other players to stay in the prefered allocated positions. Onlt one player movement.....Wiggo for Fev.

May God help us all.

How does one replace Fev?

When Fev does retire, we'd be using a new forward line structure. Something like the Bulldogs, but with a proper KPF.

Russell Walker Houlihan
Yarran Tiller Betts

Like that.

when fev was draft he was 188cm in wasn't until about 4 years later he was 191cm. fev has about 4 year left and tiller is 188 cm

I dont often disagree with Jeremais' views and I'm not throwing in the towel when in comes to Jake Edwards either, but 12 goals in a pre season game is still a great achievement and he showed that X-Factor that a gun full forward needs.

Agree the 5 games 4 goals stat cant be used against Jake because we dont look for him but in the Ants what is he biggest bag of goals?

And also how often has it been achieved. Maybe he will play FF after Fev, but he needs a good 2009 to make sure he is around first for 2010 and then hopefully beyond

If Fev were to go down injured for the season, I would bring Edwards to play Full Forward. No he is not as good, but he has shown a bit and atm he is the next best that we have.

In the future, Tiller or maybe even Stanton may be groomed for this position, or as some have suggested maybe Fev's heir is not even @ the club yet !

Fev still has some years left in him. Therefore there are more drafts ahead of us to snap up more young talent to replace him. One does not simply replace someone like Fevloa but!

Who replaces Fevola is a BIG worry for us. We will have to continue to draft that player. I recon the club has hopes on Hartlett to get there eventually but I wouldn't hold your breath. They probably also have hopes on Edwards who probably has the physical attributes but not the attitude or smarts just yet.

Kreuzer will be a candidate and Waite will be as well. Waite reminds me of Silvagni, could have been an awesome forward but will play a hell of a lot of good footy down back.

Say in theory Fevola gets injured mid season I think we would play Waite and Kreuzer out of the square and Cloke up the ground and play Warnock and Hampson as ruckmen.

Candidates:
Fisher - Fisher is too light to take on a fullback and win and is not suited to going on long leades and having shots at goal from 45-50 meters out.
Cloke - Cloke is a bit old to take over from Fevola for a long period of time but could play as a deep forward.
Kreuzer - Kreuzer is a chance but probabl more of a CHF/FP like Cloke.
Waite - Has the size, skills, speed and all the other attributes to do it. Kicked 5 against Hawthorn once replacing Fevola.
Hartlett - Maby if he can stay fit.
Edwards - Needs to develope both mentally and physically but is a chance to get there.

And what if we're in a position to challenge for the flag? History shows that you don't win premierships without a big, decent KPF, or 2.
Walker isn't going to get any bigger and we don't yet know how big Tiller will be, our how good he will be either.
It's worked for the Bullies in H&A games but when it comes to finals, they look to have been exposed. IMO it is their lack of a big, strong marking KPF that has been their main deficiency in finals and stopped them from making a much bigger impact on September than what has occurred the past 2-3 seasons.
As for now, Edwards is a possible option but I'm afraid I don't rate him and have doubts on him to succeed at AFL level.:(
Hopefully I'm wrong though.:)
