hey guys, just wondering if anyone can give me a description on each of our rookies. cox, toovey and nicholls i think. also out of them who will be kept at the years end?
cheers.

Shannon Cox looks more of a mature footballer, but is still young and not as tall as he plays. A goalkicker, has spent most of his time in the reserves, but played with the seniors for a month. From what I have seen, he has got great hands, and would be good to keep on the list. Can't say he will or won't be retained, but hasn't had the best of opportunities.

Alan Toovey is still pretty unknown to myself. Has worked hard during the season to now be a regualr in the seniors down at Williamstown, playing 8 of the last 10 in the seniors, including the last 6, so he is working hard.

Daniel Nicholls certainly looks a great prospect and should be retained. Has the skills and still learning and has spent most of his time in the seniors. Think he is a good player to have on the list, and he is improving and working each week.

Harry O'Brien no need to comment. We know he is a player that will be elevated to the seniors at seasons end.

Shannon Cox looks promising. For his size (190), he can hold down full forward without fuss.

Nicholls is a little gem, honestly. He thrives on hard work, and his disposal is very clean.

Toovey loves to run, take a bounce, backs himself. He possesses bona fide courage.

Would think Toovey and Cox would be fighting for an omittion, considering we would most likely keep 2 of them...Nicholls to be retained, O'Brien will be elevated, Cox hopefully, but if there is good signs of development, All could be in our squad next year.

we cant keep all of them though unfortunately

Why not? What are the rules?

Only OBrien's in his second year so he need to be promoted (likely) or delisted (unlikely). If we have to get rid of another I'd consider promoting Nicholls retaining both Toovey and Cox on the rookie list. We need talls, and Cox fills the category, so he'll be retained I'd say.

Timmy is right. O'Brien will be elevated and the other 3 can be retained and would be unless there was more than 1 better prospect available.

We COULD keep all of them, but we'd have to free up three roster places for them to move up, so they have to win their spot on the list from other players - It won't be enough for them to be a good prospect, they'll have to be better than someone else, and when you consider that we have to de-list a minimum of 3 players to make room for our draft picks, you're looking at needing 7 or 8 de-listed before you're going to make room for these guys on the senior list.

I see Nicholls as being the one that will definitely be elevated at the end of the 2007 season, because he will be a straight up gun. Has what it takes to succeed, does that boy.

Toovey probably won't make it, not because he's not good enough, but because he's much too similar to Maxwell and Harry at this stage. If he can become a run-with midfielder, maybe, but otherwise I don't see it.

Cox may or may not make it, but given that he'll be 21 at the end of his rookie deal, he'll have to have shown a fair bit by then.

I thought all 3 of them have only done 1 year as a rookie in 2006. They can do 2. They don't need to take up a senior list spot in 2007. Unless there are better rookie prospects they would be retained for 2007 you would think.

Nicolls the Dandenong boy is going to be a star, goes in for the hard ball and has brillant speed all that we are looking for :thumbsu:

nicholls is only a little fella isnt he? where could you see him playing in our side? a forward pocket? or is he a potential on-baller?

Toovey is going to be a very important player - the pick of the current rookies in my opinion.

He runs 2.92 for 20 m (excellent speed) tested very well in the beep test (mid 13s) and tackles very hard. At the same time he is 189 cm and can therefore play on third or second tall down back. Absolute courage, and loves to run and take people on.

He played well in the seniors for one of the WA teams, and should make the leap to AFL comfortably. Could be a Clement-type player - super pace who can play tall or small down back. Very highly rates junior who will make the leap to AFL. Hopefully with the Pies.

Does anyone know anything about the NSW youngster Scott Reed? Ie strengths, position, etc? He is apparantly the standout from NSW but I know nothing about him. When does he come of draft age?

also, anything more about "Irish" Clarke? What are the opinions on him? Will he get a shot at year's end on the list, and does this count as a rookie, or is an international rookie different?
