If the pill is delivered to him in the same manner as it is to Lloydy at the moment, then no.

It will however again give the opposition a headache on who to send their #1 defender to, which will be to our advantage. We then just have to get the ball up there to them both. :thumbsu:

Lucas. Is he in or out for this week? and if so, do you think he's presence will have a significant impact on our club for the rest of the season?

Kidding arent we. Lucas is 1 player. Hirdy had to put up with this nonsense when he was playing for us. Get realistic guys, its about 22 players putting their heart and soul into the fight. Not 1 player to be our saviour. Pull your head in.

he may not win us games but we will definately be more competitive..

not only will our inside 50s greatley increase but he will slot a few goals himself..

we break down pretty easy when going forward around the HF line..
and we often handball too much due to the lack of options up forward, i think if we have lucas roaming around the 50 it will straighten us up and give the players a bit of confidence to kick it forward rather then try to handballthe length of the ground...

lucas has missed a fair bit of footy though so iwouldnt expect his impact to be immediate..
.
as for this week ithink lucas wont make it this week. knights said he wanted 2 full sessions this week with no hassels at all.. i think if lucas is even slightly not ready knights wont risk him...

you're missing the point.

One of the major reasons for the delivery into the forward line is the complete lack of options on the half forward line.

Our game plan is to throw a few quick handballs & run hard, then kick long. At the moment, we're setting up with the handballs, looking upfield, seeing nothing, and then either handballing once or twice too often into trouble or kicking high to a contested situation; or worse, straight to the ____ing opposition.

Now, the midfield and half backs needs to take some responsibility for their delivery, no doubt, but when we have a legitimate & viable target at CHF it will straighten us up and allow us to actually execute our game plan the way it's meant to be.

Lucas particularly; Gumby possibly; are crucial players for the make up of our team.

We are absolutely crying out for a strong CHF presence, so anyone who thinks one player isn't important aren't thinking it through with regards to team balance and game plan

I think what will be really interesting about the forward line is that the best defender will take either llody or lucas. Neagle may slip under the radar, receive a dodgy opponent and sneak a few goals.

Will straighten us up. He can make a significant difference because teams will now have to send their 1/2nd best defender to him. Gives us an option across half forward. He creates contests allowing the crumbers to do their job. Whether he gets the wins column to tick over I am not too sure. Will certainly help the team out and brings leadership also. Cannot expect him to slot 5 goals straight away. Will be a tad rusty no doubt. Hope he gets a game this week.

Fair enough Lance, but if we can't kick, can't handball, tackle or keep our feet, we wont be able to execute the gameplan even with these players in the side. We have to get the basics right first.

oh, strongly agree. It's dismal. But it's not like we have no skill in our team. So there's other reasons. Pressure, implied pressure, lack of communication, confidence; a whole host of factors.

We actually have some skill, but it looks like we don't. The hole at CHF is a big factor imo

Yep, confidence is the biggest factor right now. They clearly dont have any.

Don't forget as well that Scotty kicking for goal and kicking the ball inside the fwd 50 - we are mnuch more likely to score. Scotty would almost be the best field kcik in the team (and yes he may no right but his left is better than nearly every player's preferred on our list).

The other thing is - two talls instead of one makes a HUGE difference - 1 key forward - swamp him and the games done - two - brings indecision - gives McPhee the third best tall etc.

We won't win, but hopefully be more competitive - as noted above - we need to gain confidence that has disaappeared over the last few weeks.

Not to mention I expect McPhee's game to step up as he won't have the CHB on him, and although he's played well this year considering he's been getting the second best defender, he should step up with Lucas taking the CHB (and often winning).

Feel sorry for the 3rd tall that has to take on McPhee

Don't rush him back for short term gain - I can't see him turning our fortunes around anytime soon. Make sure he's OK and throw him in then.

Can't wait to see him back in the squad though - straightens us up so much more

I don't think was missing the point.
I think we're pretty much on the same page but surely the lack of F50 entries has a lot to do with it. Week after week in we're miles behind in disposals (sometimes -100) and F50 entries (up to 50% less). If we can't get the ball, we can't go inside F50 no matter who's in there to straighten us up, and when we do get the ball, far too often it's too eeasily coughed up.

We're actually pretty efficient when it does go inside the F50. :thumbsu: Commentators regularly mention it. So it's not all bad.

I agree that a CHF viable target might straighten us up more, but we need to get the pill more often, and then not cough it up so easily across the middle at the first sign of pressure.

It'll eventually click. I hope.

A good CHF will increase the number of inside 50s. We often cough it up because of having to run the ball the extra 30-50m to the FF instead of kicking it to the CHF.

Personally, I reckon its gonna make a huge difference.
It will hopefully mean Mcphee goes down back, Lucas atracts a top defender, which frees up Lloyd and Neagle a bit. Not only that, we will be recieving top delivery into our forward line.

Best case scenario:

Lucas plays as a CHF who drifts further up the ground, providing a presence everywhere from 40 out to about halfway. When players look up at half back or further towards our goals, they see our best player, and kick to him. He marks, and either has a shot, or passes to Lloyd or Neagle on the lead. We become better. McPhee then becomes freer to roam, and gets more possessions.

or

Lucas and Gumbleton come back into the team. Gumbleton slots into the CHF role, while Lucas is given free rein between the 50s. Whenever we have possession in the backline, we have a strong marking target to kick to. Lucas provides a lot of drive into the forward line, and leaves the 3 key forwards with plenty of opportunities to kick a few goals.

The confidence of the team improves, and our skills subsequently pick up, and players are more willing to run the lines, and cover for their team mates. We begin scoring a lot more freely, while conceding fewer soft goals (especially from turnovers). We become more competitive, and claim the scalps of West Coast, Fremantle, Melbourne and Carlton, as well as a few more highly rated teams. We finish with 7-8 wins, and a strongly improving list.

It's that easy, isn't it?:p;)

Some good points here Ben.. I only wish both scotty and gumby could be out there at the same time.

He is our best player and we have missed him dearly. Will not be the difference between winning and losing as many have already said. But imagine if you were David Myers running out next to Scotty Lucas (as compared to say CJ) -how much better would you feel about yourself and the team?:)
