I agree it shouldn't get to that, but if the Shield season isn't finished yet, don't have AFL games there.

Football generates more $$$ for Adelaide Oval than cricket.

If an AFL player gets a serious injury (potentially career ending) from the R3 game, hope they sue the pants off the SACA.

The SACA won't be footing any bills and nor should they.

The government is pulling the strings in this all, it'll be on them. That said i don't think the Crows would be comfortable playing there if they didn't think the job could be done. I think people are overreacting to any real danger.

Players have played under worse conditions than what the grounds staff will serve up in 3 weeks.

Final should definitely be at AO, and AFL should not start before late March at the earliest. This is clearly cricket season.
The Sheffield Shield is generally late March early April.

The SACA cost the chance to host this at AO when they agreed to move Footy there in order to pay their debts off and generate revenue from Footy.

Having said that, if it doesn't inconvenience our club, the Final should be played at AO.

The extra publicity might even get more than 1000 people to it....

Except it will all be on work days instead of two weekend days.

A good reason to play it at KR, two days over the weekend.

The deal needs to be if we give the SACA this, our AFLW side plays it next Finals at AO.

Would draw a bigger crowd...

Massive cricket fan and love the Redbacks but I don't think this game should be on Adelaide Oval.

It was the cost of doing business.

We've ended up with an amazing stadium for both sports, but the price cricket had to pay was March. So no Shield final or grade cricket finals that they used to have played there.

The problem is that Karen Rolton Oval isn't very spectator friendly. Surface is great (pitch a little too flat but that's fixable) and the site is perfect, but the outer is crap. Not enough (or any) seating, not enough shade, parts of the embankment unusable. Minimal parking, no food facilities, no public toilets on ground level and not enough of them.

OK, it sounds like the surface won't be damaged.

Go your hardest you cricket scallywags if it doesn't affect our game on following weekend.
The surface will be damaged.

They use massive cranes to drop in the concrete pitch trays

And heaven forbid if it rains when they're supposed to be installing / uninstalling the pitch. Not that it's rained for 6+ months but Sod's Law and all that

Any reason they don’t or can’t add some grandstands or toilets?

Building anything in the parklands is mission impossible.

It's why the changerooms at all the soccer and footy clubs in the parklands are largely derelict, rat-infested dungeons built on the cheap in the 1960s.

The current grandstand at Karen Rolton Oval simply replaced the Railways Oval bombsite changeroom that was already there. No extra footprint.

They squeezed public toilets up onto the 2nd storey, that's how pressed for space they were.

Then the embankment on the far side of the oval is too steep for lawnmowers to access, so they can't put grass there. It's barkchips now, in direct sun and no one would ever sit there. They ran out of money to grade the embankment more evenly and shift more soil around.

It's the sporting equivalent of the one-way Southern Expressway.

Maybe in the old days, but this is a time lapse of the current procedure.

Still a bit hesitant on the damage that'd cause the turf.

Wow! That does change things

Thanks for posting, I hadn't seen that

If it's at a proper ground with capacity to attend comfortably. I will try and get a day off work to go

If it's at Karen Rolton, I wont waste a minute trying to attend. Best surface in Adelaide outside of Adelaide Oval. But facilities to watch are terrible unless in the main stand, and the diehard saca folk will take that area.

public toilets in the South-East pocket. And I THINK out the back (south-west corner) of the pavilion.
But yeah, that outer. It's too steep, and overgrown grass, that I doubt anyone will ever use it to watch any sport there.

But in this case, it's only one pitch. Not 2 nights worth of procedures.

I dont see an issue.

But the AFL and/or AFC need to be using this as a bargaining chip to get aflw finals there.

Sort of.

I don't think the AFLW warrants game there anymore. If we make a GF before the move to Thebby then maybe but if it's not their home ground then why bother moving it ??

It's just a question of votes

Are there enough cricket fans out there who would think positively of Malinauskas if the Shield final was to be moved to Adelaide Oval?

Perhaps even him campaigning for it is enough?

Whether it actually ends up happening, people remember "Mali went into bat for us"

I see what you did there.....

What you say about KRO is spot on though, it's just so poorly designed from an amenities POV. They've held games there previously of course, but it's barely suitable for Ammo footy let alone a national cricket final.

Of course you don't,

If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for the Crows on the following weekend.

Incredible that a cricket final has people's knickers in a twist
There's only one emotional person in this thread and here's a hint, it's nobody advocating for footy.

Dont think itll matter that much, its not going to be as lush as normal but itll be fine.
Could very well be true. BUT, if you end up with one of your key mids with a stress fracture in their foot you would be pretty pissed!

It's probably unlikely to occur after one game rather than over a period on a harder surface, but it's still a greater risk than needed.

I'd agree with that, its been a bit of a cluster in terms of communications. It could have been foreseen a couple of months ago with SA sitting a game and a half clear with 3 matches to go.

I mean EPL clubs reorganise games in a packed schedule almost at the drop of a hat, hell the AFL did it last week as well.
