Recommitted Paddy Dow [OOC 2023] explored his options, but stayed

You just know he will become a good player if he goes to another club.

Dunno if he would want to go Richmond though cause Teague is there, and DT apparently didn't rate Paddy at all.

Hawthorn would be a good fit for him, I would back Sam Mitchell to get the best out of him.

What are his talents that posters speak of? I have watched a fair bit of him and I really don’t see it. He is a below average kick, below average decision maker, not lightning quick, not a great contested player, doesn’t seem to excel in the air, defensive work is below average and doesn’t hit the scoreboard. What is he good at?

He's very quick, very, very good contested player and does get forward.

But, his major holes and ?'s are his defensive work, two way running, tank and Footy IQ. Average kick of the footy in the literal sense of the word.

Wouldn’t mind a look if the price is right his brother is playing well for us
If I'm Paddy Dow and I can't get a spot in the 22 by seasons end I'm looking elsewhere, getting picked up for a nominal pick somewhere in the late 3rd round and probably going on to be a regular 22 player there.

He has ability, I'm convinced he will make it eventually.

I can honestly say I've never noticed his 'explosive speed', does he ever use it on game day?
Problem has been that his explosive speed is gone after the first quarter and he is left plodding along at lackluster pace for the rest of the match. If you go through match archives and check his first quarter stats versus any other quarter you'd see what I mean. He really hasn't had a tank for his entire career.

I'd love someone who has access to a bunch of data and is good with SQL to tell me what his first quarters look like compared to the rest.

Example of his best footy is Q1, Round 16 vs Freo 2021.

Q1:
11 Disposals
82% DE
9 Contested Possessions
1 Goal
6 Clearances

Then, the sharp decline post Q1, in Quarters 2 through 4 he had..
Q2-FT:
11 Disposals
DE dropped from 84% to 64%, which means he would've went at about 40% in quarters 2 through 4
4 Contested Possessions
0 Goals
2 Clearances

If you watch that first quarter against Fremantle you'd think he's a top 10 player in the competition, it was honestly ridiculous and I was ready for his breakout game. That has been my biggest knock on him, how badly he fades out of games.

No thank you, we’ve got enough poor kicks in our midfield without adding probably the worst kick in the league to it

I believe we’ve shown interest once before. Not sure if it’s still current, but we do need more mids.

No he wouldn't. he can't kick and he can't handle the AFL pressure.

He shouldn't even be on an AFL list as it is.

Blues fans make me laugh.

They keep telling the footy world that Dow will be a gun.

I kept saying that if Carlton keep on recruiting midfielder, the conclusion that they don’t rate Dow.

Also, I kept saying that Dow and co won’t get a game because The Blues have too many inside mids.

Now they are saying that Dow is useless.

Hopeful for Dow, been given a sh*t end of the stick in terms of development through the start of his career through covid and pathetic club administration.

Not sure how he will go this weekend but his form in the VFL has been great. Always shown a lot of talent in spurts but hopefully he can have a breakout and get some belief in his abilities

If he fails to hold a spot again can't see him on the blues list next year

Yes we need KPP, that can chop out in the ruck...
The problem is we've already experimented with playing 4 tall forwards (Harry, Charlie, TDK, JSOS) throughout this year and it hasn't worked. If we're going to trade for a KPP who can chop out in the ruck then it'll be someone who replaces Silvagni in the side.
