Past Champions who don't get mentioned enough in the media

Wayne Carey gets mentioned a lot in the media. However his off field behaviour is rarely mentioned in the media. This is the issue. His off field actions were notable, deplorable and a key factor in who he his.

Are you kidding? Carey was in exile in the AFL landscape for a long time over his actions. However they were quite a while ago. He's cleaned up (at least publicly), and everyone's moved on.

2012 - denied entry as a visitor to a prison after a history of cocaine traces while trying to visit in the past. Not so long ago.

So I am really not kidding at all. He has a history of domestic violence, drug abuse, general violence and is of such poor character he has been denied entry to the US.
Everyone has not moved on. Everyone should not move on.

And in reference back to the topic, his profile is high enough for a person of questionable character.

Because his first name was Wayne. As in Wayne King. That is the reason. Stop inventing a narrative to support your opinion.

Carey’s mythology is largely based around recency bias and a VFL centric bubble. Barry Cable, Stephen Michael, Barry Robran and Russell Ebert dominated games and seasons. They also had wonderful contemporary rivalries (that they successfully came out on top of). These examples illustrate the lack of critical thought and logic in your opinion.

Was Wayne ‘King’ better when Hird won the Brownlow? A player in the same position, in the same year won the award for the best and fairest player adjudicated by the only designated independent stakeholders in the game. Wayne ‘King’ did not even poll the most votes in his team that year.

Cmon. This is utter rubbish.

Which part?

Carey was routinely beaten by the 27 from WCE.
A player in the same position from a different won a Brownlow when Carey’s team won the flag.
In the same year, a different player polled more votes.
The ‘Open Mike’ with Leigh Matthews, Leigh Matthews talk about hitting Barry and the reasons (Barry being the biggest threat to him being one of reasons). Barry’s ‘Open Mike’ sees Barry proclaim himself a better than Leigh.
Michael had one of the best, if not best WAFL careers - regularly beating players who went onto the VFL.
Ebert - 4 times Magarey medalist.
Robran - 3 times Magarey medalist.

Carey was a person of questionable character and a disruptive force within a team environment. Would a ‘team’ of Carey’s beat a team of Pavlich’s? A team of Leigh’s? A team of Cable’s?

It is not a ‘clear’ Carey better footballer than everyone else.
It is clear Carey is a person of questionable character.
He has a high media profile due to construction rather than merit.

I just want to know why you think Wayne King is what he would have been called, not Wayne Kerr. Why would anyone call him wanking? Lol, seriously, that is a hilarious misstep in logic. You don't call people `wanking`, you call them a w***er. The King nickname clearly comes from being the best CHF of the 90s and perhaps all time.

He alternated between that and duck (due to how he walked) at the heights in high school.
It was a childhood nickname

The entire part where you are arguing Carey isn’t one of the GOAT. He clearly is. Who cares about his off field indiscretions.

I haven’t argued that - I have argued he gets a suitable amount of airtime. Definitely one of the best players and should be discussed with a group of players as being at the very highest levels.

John Northey.
Tremendous dual premiership player.
Took on a hapless Melbourne as coach & got them into the finals numerous times including a GF.
Took over a rabble Richmond as coach & got them up to a Prelim.
Coached Brisbane who had done nothing since entering the league & got them to a Prelim.
Multiple premiership coach in Ballarat League as well.

Paul Chapman. He was probably Geelong most influential player over the golden years. Big call, but geez he stood up when it mattered.

Robbie Flower, Garry Wilson and Trevor Barker would all be held in much higher regard if they had played for one of the big teams in their eras. They are never given the credit they deserve.

Carey was great, but the "King" nickname is partly a play on words, because it's a noun, and it makes sense.

"Kerr" isnt a noun. It makes no sense in isolation.

Wayne "King" Carey

And relax - I reckon Carey's the best so don't shoot me down for that.

A couple I find never get mentioned are Chris Lewis, and Craig Bradley.

Lewis was absolutely electric. A genuine superstar of the competition.

Bradley was like Tom Mitchell. Just accumulated ridiculous numbers.
