Coach Patch is back

Well I'm glad we got him in as interim coach!

That first half of footy was so good to watch. I would love him as an assistant or in some senior coaching capacity with some guidance from an experienced operator (Chocco, Clarko whatever).

He knows the list well, knows which positions are suited to which, it would be stupid if we put him aside and didn't let him have some influence during training.

In all honesty, it doesn't feel like Shaw 2.0 at all... something feels different...
Just to elaborate further...

It is really difficult to get the boys up and about after the week we've had (largely different to every other occasion we've sacked the coach). Patch should be considered in some development role or at least an assistant.

He's direct, shinboner, likes the fun stuff and has passion. I hope we get him more involved after we fix the department.

It’s simple Patch gets what this club is about.

He’s not ready to be our senior coach, but you would hope whoever takes the job keeps him around.

Love how he defended the list, too. That's Sonja and now him who have nuked the notion that our results this year reflect our list's talent.

I loved how he said he wanted the boys to go out and enjoy the win.

If Patch can get these guys to enjoy their footy again, mission accomplished.

He really put our team on sale today.

Any coach worth their salt would know we have a damn good core of mostly young players in there that can be elevated to elite status with a few more trades/drafts to shuffle the decks and get the balance right with the right coach that leads them and it can absolutely compete.

We just snuffed out a top 8 contending team (albeit yes on a sugar hit) — but Richmond threw everything at us, it wasn’t as convincing as last time they needed that win, Hardwick was fuming.

fook Harwick

Gut feel based on his rather limited exposure at the level and his reputation at other clubs is that he'd make a fantastic assistant. I don't know what the club's processes are during the head coach candidate interview/screening phase, but it makes sense to me to put the coaches in a room with the candidate and just let them all talk footy. If we can get someone whose personality/ethos (or whatever you want to call that intangible thing that determines whether you like or dislike someone) aligns with the other coaches and Patch has his coaching role elevated, I think we'll be in a great position

Hope clarko keeps him around, his communication post match was sensational. Clearly sees the game well and can identify negative facets as they are occurring which is absolutely critical match day wise

Patch is most likely not ready for our senior gig just yet, as clearly we are wanting Clarko.

However I think despite that he speaks extremely well, seems a top fella, and I think he may well become a senior coach one day.

He talks how he played, honest and I wish him the best.

Out of all the coaches I hope we can find a spot for a real North man.

If he is kept around to coach the VFL side and Clarkson comes in, then I can easily see him coaching an AFL side in the future.

Clarkson assistants are usually in high demand, but I think Adams coaching a senior side is an inevitability regardless. I'll definitely have a soft spot for wherever he ends up.

I wonder if Patch will put his name in the ring for the job permanently after Clarkson is announced as Essendon's new coach.

If this happens, I hope he will.
