I just trust my eyes, my experience of playing good (nowhere near elite) football, and my experience of both how to apply physicality in a marking contest as well as being the victim of it.

Brown ? Great footballers that also would firmly admit that they would hurt the opponent if and when they could.
Voss? Same. But also has some skin in the game maybe.
Buckley? Same again. Much fairer than the other two. But has form in that there’s a fair bit of the victim-blame in him for things like this.

it is entirely possible to play the game hard and fair. Not avoiding accidental injury, but not ignoring the potential impact of actions on your opponent. Cripps does that almost always. But not in this case.

So your experience and your eyes are more valid than those of the tribunal and the names I mentioned? Is it possible at all that you are wrong or it is more contentious than you think?

Well I’m a physiotherapist with nearly two decades experience, and a special interest in sporting injuries and head trauma in the sporting arena.

I can guarantee you with 100% certainty that I know what an extended arm looks like. Cripps’ elbows are bent beyond 90 degrees. There is no way his arms are extended. Zero. Zilch.

Therefore in my view, while he may believe he was contesting the ball, and by the simple fact that self-interest is God, Carlton supporters readily accept that he was contesting the ball, there is no video evidence to support the claim.

I could be persuaded that he was contesting the drop zone. Even then there should be a duty of care, because you haven’t made the ball your object, but keeping someone else from it. Ah Chee’s extended arms are what contesting the ball looks like, and if Cripps had done the same, it’s likely he would have flipped mid-air as though tunnelled, and we’d be saying it was an unfortunate collision where both players made the ball their object.
FFS.

Anyone who has played any reasonable standard of football knows that if he was legitimately going for the ball he would have done so with his arms outstretched and likely suffered some broken or at least bruised ribs in the process.

No, as I keep mentioning that I form my own opinions not look for validation, and not AFL decisions.
I could quote a bunch of AFL players that can’t believe that Cripps got off. But there’s no point to that either.

Actually the tribunal agrees with him, so did Michael Christian the MRO. It was the appeals board who disagreed.

Yep, 8 of the top 11 contributors are Carlton supporters.

Not much else to talk about at this time of the year?
How odd for Carlton supporters to be posting in a thread about Carlton's captain.

This thread isn't about Carlton, it's about the integrity of the game.

Carlton are irrelevant, as they have been for the past two decades.
Integrity of the game? That ship has well and truly sailed.

And the Blues are still relevant enough for you to post here. 'Nuff said.

The appeals board is also a tribunal. The original tribunal could only use directions given to them and there was an error in law. If that had not happened, they too might have found in favour of Cripps.

And if Michael Christian or the “original tribunal” as you put it, found him not guilty then the AFL might have appealed and the appeals board might have suspended him.

Count your lucky stars I guess!

Other threads you could be posting in:
1. Is the Top 4 Set?
2. Is this where Carlton drops away?
3. The Rebuild of Carlton and Brisbane and their future prospects
4. Which Team will finish 7th and 8th in 2022?
5. New Carlton Coach?
6. Who Won the Judd/Kennedy trade?
7. Voss could be the greatest

But I guess it's August and you've given up on posting about your 2022 prospects.

Time to work on your material for 2023.
