2008 - games 18. Contested marks 3. And averages 3.4 marks in total per game.

18 matches this year. 3 conteste marks for the whole season. averages 3.4 a match. for a 197cm bloke 3 contested marks is not the greatest. will not be a CHF in any lifetime. To do so he would need to be able to take contested grabs or have some leg speed. neither is a strenght.

Required player though. Good back up ruckman. Great attitude, hard at it, and good skills. Just wanted to dispel the delusions of Patto being a CHF.

The format of those stats dispels any delusions of anything. ;)

why cant he make chf? if he puts on weight he can stay down there as long as he works on his marking(contested) and just ruck when needed

Lets compare him to other young ruckman.

Mark Blake

Age: 23
25 games
10.2 disposals per game
3.5 marks per game
5 contested marks in 25 games
6 goals in 25 games

Contested Marks:

Ivan Maric had 5.
Simon Taylor had 8.
Simmonds had 11.
Steven King had 2.

We dont need a CHF, Richo's gunna be there for the next 10 years :D

you can pretty much improve in all those areas! execpt for maby getting more agile

you may be able to drink coke zero to avoid getting fat but to suddenly develop the ability to take contested marks in the big time and be able to outsprint a chb who makes a career playing against Pav, Riewoldt, Hall, Brown is another thing. Patto would be a good CHF in the Ammos. Patto at most can rest forward but 3 contested marks from a season and 13 career goals doesn't suggest he is going to take the world by strom up forward any time soon.

Interesting stats. I think he will (?can) improve in the short term with his marking as that was his strength as a junior. His kicking has already improved considerably since he was drafted. One of the hardest workers on the track. Good kid.

I think these stats are nonsense since they are stats of a ruckman. And what if Patto took 15 uncontested marks at CHF a game. Would we still think he is no good because they were all uncontested.

The reality is, if we recruit a back up ruckmen or Angus steps up to the mark , Patto can train to be a CHF like he was recruited for. Maybe put on some weight and be a handy player. For the effort he has put in and his first class attitude I'd be giving him the chance If I was coach.

His pressure is first class , look forward to seeing him given a go if we sort out our ruck stocks.

he doesnt have to be the best chf going around. just be able to take a mark. agree he wont be fast enough on a lead but if the ball hits the ground from the contest he will put his head over the ball every time. and he will most likely drag a ruckmen back to play on him if he puts on some weight or have a tall(195cm+) defender playing on him. no more coke zero for patto

Ok you may be right coke zero...but i will stick by my opinion. can't see the club putting all the effort into training him as a ruckman only to turn around and play him as chf when there are better options (in my opinion) Riewoldt and Putt are more likely for mine.

he will never be the best player in the afl or even in our team but his spirt and hardness at the ball will make everyone rise. id like him to play forward for 50% of the time he is on the ground and for the other 50% in the center bounces and then helping out by staying back. he may not be able to do this next year but when he can he will help us on our way to the top.

look back at his 10 mark game against the hawks in 06 he took some strong marks that day.He took more marks last year he was'nt getting much game time this year and don't forget is still built likr a rake.

Too slow, not agile enough, not skillful enough, ordinary kicking action, ordinary marking....

An ordinary kicking action doesnt make him a bad kick. If you actually watch where his kicks go you will see he actually hits his targets almost every time. Agree that hes not agile enough and too slow for CHF but. Maybe deep forward swapping ruck?

yeah i think that's where his value is. if he can play most of the game in the ruck and sneek forward to kick a goal he will be ok.
