Pavlich....is he the best going around?

AA is picked by people who we all bag at different times, so why anyone rates it is beyond me.

However, Pavlich is the most underrated player going around.

ah good, though this migh be a pav baggin session.

Let me say he is better than jonothan brown. If i could have any player in the comp it would be him. Probably the MVP (to any 1 side) in the comp. Pav has more football talent in his little finger than cam mooney has in his whole body. In saying that mooney does the job required, had a premiershio medallion and doesnt need to kick 15 goals a game for geelong 2 win.

In terms of forwards in the comp
1. Buddy
2. Pav
3.Fev
4.brown.

All players
1. Abblet
2. buddy
3.Pav
4. Judd

If Gary Ablett Snr. only got 7 & Pavlich has 6, what does that say about his All Australian awards.

That he has been injury free so very durable. Consistent, has never had a bad season. A good utility that can play anywhere and his success will probably be much more sustained then Abletts was.
Ablett IMO is the best player to ever play the game buts its not like he was a 13-14 year player like Pavlich potentially could.

This winning games off your own boot is rubbish.

Pav could have one of his 6 goal hauls where he singlehandedly keeps Freo in the game only for the team to go down narrowly in the last quarter and everyone says 'If he was really a champion he'd win the game off his own boot'.

But he could have exactly the same game with a couple of extra quality teammates beside him and Freo would win. Then all of a sudden he's 'won the game off his own boot' despite playing exactly the same.
Too true. If Pavlich the best player on the ground in a match where Fremantle lose, then it isn't Pavlich's fault.

Does anyone know Pavs actual contract situation?

If Collingwood made him an offer I would be very happy, as I think any sides followers would.

As far as the original post goes, I would argue he is probably the most versatile going and would be in the top ten in specific areas.
I do believe his AA selections were as a Key Forward, Mid and Key Back.
I don't think many others could claim that.

IIRC he signed a 3 year contract last year worth about $2.5 mil

Thanks...bad news for me but good news for you.
He must obviously believe that there is a bright future for Freo as there would most definitely have been interest from other clubs.
Good to see loyalty...even if he's getting paid well as he would get it anywhere else.

No probz, yeh it is good that our captain is loyal unlike someone:rolleyes:

Gun Player - I have him as Captain in my dream team.
He regularly racks up 100+ points.
Sad that he ended up at Freo.
No disrespect towards Freo, I have nothing against them.
Poor bugger has not played too many finals.
I remember a few years ago when they did make the finals that Pav was killing it. Absolutely starred.
Sad part is that Collingwood could have had him.
They traded pick 3 for pick 7 and Steven Mckee.
Used pick 7 on a d*i*k*h*e*a*d that quit football before his career even began. Could have used pick 3 to get Pav:(

Oh no probs... no way we could take that as being disrespectful.

Sad that Bucks ended up at Collingwood - he deserved a team that was good enough to win him a premiership.

No disrespect towards Collingwood of course.

But Collingwood have the most money and draw the biggest crowds. Isn't that what it is all about?

Yep, I would put him second at the moment behind Ablett.

People talk a lot more about J. Brown and how awesome he is. He is good, but Pav is better.

Come to the Tigers, Pav! We've got a much better winning culture than Freo...:D

Pavlich is the best forward going around but to say the best player is a toughie. Theres an award voted by the umpires every year and it's dominated by midfielders even though it's a comparitively easier position than to play than up forward with 3 guys jumping all over you.

So who knows if he's the best but he'll be at Freo for a long time to come and for that I'm happy.:thumbsu:

Just thought I'd bump this thread. The more I watch this guy the more I froff over him. He is a deadset superstar of the comp and if Freo were winning this year he'd be a favourite for the brownlow.

SUPERSTAR

im quite suprised so many people are saying pavlich is underrated, only in the sense i thought everyone had him as one of THE elite players.

As much as i love to hang shit on Freo, Pavlich is an absolute superstar and i have considered him in the top 5 or 6 players of the competition for 4-5 years now.

You girls have to take your hand off it!!!
I agree Pavlich is a gun, but seriously Brown is as good as he is, in fact I would have Brown before Pavlich any day of the week.
As forwards they are both guns, but Brown continues to amaze with his courage, he wont flinch going back with the ball, and hes a selfless player, right up there with goal assists, Pav seems to look after number 1 first.
Pav is recognised as more versatile then Brown, and I agree he can be very damaging in the midfield, but if i do recall Brown has been thrown into the middle with great affect a couple years ago. Pav has played down back, I dont think you will ever see Brown down there, but how he got a AA jumper as full back is a joke!
And in one area Brown has Pav covered is leadership. He is a natural leader, Pav is doin it cos he has too. He was captain of the Vic side for nothing, and more importantly was named Captain of the Year last year by his peers, not a bad feat consider Brown was a co-captain at Brisbane with 3 others.
All in all, i agree Pav is a gun footballer, but i would still happily take Brown before him.

Agree that this is impressive, but its only because Freo are stupid enough to play him all over the place.

If other blokes like Reiwolt and Brown played back, mid and forward - they might get AA jumpers in those spots too.

Although, I belive last season was J.Brown's first AA selection in his career.

King Kieran ... Browns solitary All Australian selection last year surely reinforces your point compared to Pavlich's 5 All Australian selections.

People like you are the reason this board is started and Pavlich is seen as underrated, i have maintained for a while now he is the best player in the land and i am an eagles fan. Week in and week out he performs.

Mate I rate Pavlich, hes int he elite group of footballers in the land and a certain AA again this year, but I still would take Brown before him.

great player on mediocre team > great player on a great team

playing devil's advocate a bit but isn't it harder to really standout in a great team than a mediocre team? you still get the opposition best player and all your other team mates are great players too so to standout in that group is really an achievement

i think pavlich is a great player and under rated but i also see selfishness in his game which for me puts him behind brown/ablett/judd and maybe contributes to his team not being better.

Kicked 4 goals in the first half running through the midfield. Didn't kick a goal after half time because he played up forward. I think that shows the measure of the man, and, sadly, the team he plays with.
