Losing a bit of weight will help him play for longer into his 30's and make it easier to switch into the midfield if needed.
NEW Fremantle coach Ross Lyon will retain Matthew Pavlich as captain for a sixth season in 2012. Pavlich will be officially ratified by the club as skipper in the next fortnight. Pavlich has joined many of his teammates in slimming down and will play at about 96kg in 2012 - his lightest playing weight for a decade. "I've lost a little bit, it's not substantial but probably about a couple of kilograms,'' he said.
The 30-year-old club games record holder became skipper in Chris Connolly's final season at the helm in 2007, and from late 2007-2011 was captain under axed coach Mark Harvey.Pavlich said he was confident he and Lyon would form a strong captain-coach partnership.
