$200,000 plus over the past four Premiership coaches, are we paying far too much for the success levels we have reached?

We now have 2 threads on this, the other actually has a name that says Malthouse highest paid coach

We posted it with one minute of each other, you'll need to notice details like that. I'm sure a mod will merge the two threads soon enough.

Tess your always on MM's case... It's irrelevant how much he gets paid. pretty sure its an etimation and was never a certainity. The reason MM ranks so high is he has a wealth of experience and Collingwood have the financial capacity to pay him. I think both threads should be closed, just like the article should never have been written as its based on a fiction made by a delusional writer.

I'm with you esc0bar, I think it is absolutely rediculous that this bafoon of a "journalist" is allowed to speculate and publish the private wages of AFL Coaches and players in a very popular newspaper that god knows how many people buy and read. It is rediculous, and really who gives a shite what the coaches are on....

Also apart from this being just an esitmation anyone with half a brain should know it's only a base salary. Think about a certain chris... haha you think Pratt isnt giving him a few extras on the side.

Does tess ever agree with anything that Collingwood do? I've never actually seen her be positive or not hate our club.

Malthouse deservers every cent, I hope he gets more in his next contract so that tess can sleep even less at night.

I am pretty much on the none of our business bandwagon. However I think it would be intresting to see when his last contract renewal was. The fact is we are a big earning club and as such should be a biggest spending club. I am glad to see our money going back into the football. If they feel he is the best coach out there and that is what we need to offer to keep him coaching then so be it.

spot on.. the salary is his business for starters... but what mm brings to collingwood is worth every cent... ok we dont have a flag yet.. we just havent had lady luck fall our yet... she is coming though..

It is only Mike Sheahan's estimate - maybe people should start asking how much he gets paid - just for balance of course.

On the whole MM has provided pretty good value for us over his Collingwood career.

This one is aptly titled because it asked a very pertinent question. Sure the motivation is transparent but why not!

IF this is factual, then the highest paid coach has a 50% win/loss record and no flag in his decade long tenure. I would have thought the answer to the question is about as a loud a “YES” as is humanly possible to emit without expelling lungs.

No that is not right. In a listed company, executive remuneration is the shareholders business. In a membership based club it is in the realm of members business.

As for lady luck, well that’s the fallback position for half a century. I’m not sure when we will stop falling back on that one but if it hasn’t happened in half a century I very much you or I will live to see it.

Mick deserves every cent he gets. He continually gets us into the finals with a avg list which is now starting to develop and got us to 2 GFs which we should never have got in.
The side he is grooming will be a strong contender in the next few seasons.

Mick helped create the average list in the first place.

We are miles off the Hawks & Cats & don't have the gameplan to challenge for a flag. Perhaps you are the one with no idea, go Liverpool!

where were we on the ladder when Mick took over? You can only make so many changes over time. He has backed in youth and its now starting to gel. Collingwood made the finals last year and just missed top 4 with a squad that was not the flash and had to deal with missing Fraser, Rocca, Presti, Dids and Shaw for chunks of the season and yet got us over Adelaide in Adelaide in a elimination final?
Once all are kids hit 50 to 75 games you will see us become a real challenger.
Of course we are miles off the Hawks and Cats right now, im saying in a few years we will be. Sides can only stay up for so long. Hawks can stay up longer due to their avg age but Geelongs will change a lot in a couple years.

The gameplan for years has been go wide around the flanks, turn the ball over and watch the opposition run in packs through the centre of the ground.

We were last & Mick inherited a club with 1 Number 1 Draft Pick & 1 Number 3 Draft Pick (which he himself traded).

You can only make so many changes over time.

I think 9 years is adequate enough time frame, do you? Al Clarkson took 3 years to win a flag, with less draft picks & he was on less than half of what Mick is on.

He has backed in youth and its now starting to gel.

It is? As far as I can see his side is up and down more than a Yo Yo.

Collingwood made the finals last year and just missed top 4 with a squad that was not the flash

Again, it's pointless mentioning the list isn't flash. Mick helped create the list you label as not flash in the first place.

Beating Adelaide in a final is no mean feat. They have won 1 final in their last 6.

Hawks can stay up longer due to their avg age but Geelongs will change a lot in a couple years.

Hawthorn have a younger list, a more talented list, a better gameplan that MM is incapable of dealing with & a coach that isn't past his used by date (like Mick).

Liverpool 4. Man U 1.
Liverpool 5. Man U 3.

And what he did with those picks then he took us to 2 GFs.
If Collingwood had Lance Franklin and Roughhead i think we could win the GF too. Hawks bottomed out for a while there and got some nice picks and the players they got are outstanding. Mick doesnt try to drop out and the only real time he has he picked Pendlebury and Thomas so he didnt do too bad.
Of course the side is up and down, that happens with youth. They are not consistent but they will be soon enough, just have to be patient.
Beating Adelaide in Adelaide with the squad we have out there was outstanding, how could u not rate that win? several kids out there that had played less then 10 games.

Not sure why u r bringing up Liverpool, this has nothing to do with them or Man Utd and we r not talking about EPL

And what he did with those picks then he took us to 2 GFs.

Not really. His first pick was Josh, his second pick (which was 3) was downgraded by the man himself & we got the great Danny Roach (Pavilich was available at the same time).

If 2 Grand Final losses floats your boat then well & good. You compare it to a GF victory like Al achieved, & I know which one you would take.

If Collingwood had Lance Franklin and Roughhead I think we could win the GF too.

& If Collingwood had Pavilich, which they could have had without the intervention of Mick, than Colllingwood could have to. The reality is should haves, could haves don't cut it. Hawthorn have a flag, we don't.

Mick doesnt try to drop out

Well explain why we received a priority pick in 2005 & finished bottom 5 in 2004, that is given Mick doesn't try to drop out..

Of course the side is up and down, that happens with youth.

So can you explain why Hawthorn, with a younger side, were good enough to win a flag?

They are not consistent but they will be soon enough, just have to be patient.

I think 9 years is long enough to have been patient, don't you?

I was bemused by your signature.
