My current PC (built in 2012) keeps shutting down randomly (not while im using it though) not sure why but its a good enough reason to start plans on a new build

Stuff is constantly coming out, just build when you when want. Ryzen gen 2 just dropped, Intel 8th gen was late last year so probably won't hear any more until later this year, Nvidia are still sitting on their hands nearly a year with Volta gen but it shouldn't be long now

Struggling to justify $250+ on a keyboard and mouse right now, from a quick look at what's around I'd probably be looking at the Logitech G512 keyboard and Corsair Dark Core SE mouse.

I use the Razer Blackwidow Stealth. It's my first mechanical keyboard though so can't compare. I'm happy with it. I think it was $130.
It's backlit (no RGB - that model costs more) and uses the quiet keys (didn't want clicking) with tactile feedback. It has audio jack and USB throughput if you need those.
Be aware that some companies (Razer incl) use their own type of mechanical keys as opposed to the generic Cherry type so have a look into what type of keys each use.

It is a larger keyboard. It took me a while to adjust but I've noticed gaming is better for me with keys further apart (less mistypes) but typing is a little bit harder.
It's ok for gaming, it's just horrible for typing and general use. I don't think I've noticed much difference in terms of gaming performance from my previous gaming keyboard (some rebadged Razer thing by HP with your standard membrane setup).
Haven't seen any build quality issues with my Razer, the earlier one was a bit crap as the paint on the keys wore off quite easily but the Blackwidow appears to be very solid.

No experience with the wireless gear but Corsair make some pretty solid stuff. I previously stood by the Razer Deathadder and Imperator mice as they were simple and comfy but impulse bought a Corsair combo late last year with the K70 keyboard and Sabre mouse. Really happy with both and it turns out profile and size of the Sabre suits my hand and grip more than my previous Razer stuff.
Only issue I've ever had with Razer was a Naga mouse as the side buttons felt super cheap and fragile.

Was that me telling you about Razer Xbox controllers I had years ago over Discord?
4 controllers all had the joystick go notchy inside 4-5 weeks. EB obviously knew about Razer's poor quality as they would see me walk in the store and just grab a new controller off the shelf in anticipation. Eventually got fed up and got a full refund no questions.
If you want a timeline it was when the skinny nerdy kid from EB Southland was singing his way though Australian Idol or some shite. Served me a few times...
Razer? Wouldn't touch it with your dick...

Haha each their own. I wouldn't buy Razer headphones but I will never use a mouse other than the Deathadder ever again. Good quality and simple design. Fits my hand perfectly. Blackwidow k/b is also vry good quality.
I personally would never buy Logitech auxillaries ever again. Too many bad experiences. But it's all luck of the draw in the end, once you have a bad experience with a certain brand you tend to write them off.

Prob gonna go with the blue led Ducky, seems to be a better build quality, better switches and better keycaps than the other brands at a similar price.

8700 (K or locked?) is a hot chip, especially on an Asus board that uses multi core enhancement. Hyper 212 should be fine if that’s the one you want, but if you just picked it because it’s cheaper then see what else you can afford. Mine pushes low to mid 70s on gaming sessions with a h100i cooler and a well vented case. It’s still ideal but I’d love to get it sub 70 at stock which is why I’m thinking about getting a Kraken x72 (also because it has more bling).

Just saw the mistake, I had two options at each part and removed the lesser options (obviously didn't remove it well enough).
Just the non-k version. Pretty much did it to save money and not sure about other options at similar prices. I'd prefer sub 70 as well. I've been looking around and people say the Hyper 212x should do the trick on a non-k.

About the 8700 temps it’s just that all the Asus RoG boards (probably a lot of their non-RoG boards too) have multi core enhancement. On any board that doesn’t have this the CPU will only use Intel’s turbo so only one or two cores will boost to 4.6ghz (4.7ghz for the K) but with that multi core enhancement feature on it will boost all cores to their rated turbo speed just like an overclock would so cranking all 6 cores is going to get a bit warmer than it would on a board without that feature. The 212 really should be fine but at worst it’s borderline and you might only have slightly higher temps. I guess just make sure the case has good air flow

I heard this case has decent airflow but I'm not too sure.

It has space for 3 front mounted intake fans. Will be fine. Fans draw power form you mobo. They are mounted with 4 screws, adding fans is a piece of cake.
Also. I7 8700 comes with an Intel cooler as pictured. It should be fine as is, ditch the Hyper 212x cooler as it's probably only slightly better that the standard one. If you're not happy then you can upgrade at any time...

If I did get that case how many fans should I be adding and how much do they cost? I saw they range from 5-25ish per fan. Wasn't sure if I needed a particular amount or brand.
In regards to the stock cooler, I've read some people say it's pretty loud and can get to above 80.
Would be nice however to save where I can and possibly just buy a couple more fans for the case I've linked above or even get a better case like the Fractal Design or NZXT S340 Elite.

Case is fine. It's just about utilising your fan slots. That case comes with one front and one rear, and to be on the safe side just chuck another 120mm on the front (it says one is an LED so you might want to match that up) so two for intake and the rear for exhaust. Just means there is always fresh air coming in, the internals (especially the graphics card) aren't starved of air and it keeps the ambient temp down. I think cooling is one of the most overlooked things. It doesn't seem that exciting until hardware starts throttling.
