So as I mentioned I’m keen on a laptop for uni stuff but mostly games, what is my best option of these 2? Max I’m happy to spend is 3k at either Harvey Norman or jbhifi due to the interest free. Obviously if anyone thinks there is something better then these I’m keen to know

Do you absolutely have to game on a laptop?

With $3k I'd buy a $700 laptop and build a pretty kick ass gaming desktop with the other $2300.
Gives you the flexibility to upgrade individual components (like graphics cards) and obviously on sell those parts not needed anymore. Giving your machine a good 7+ year lifespan. A mate of mine just sold his built in 2011 rig in separate components, a Z67 mobo, 8 gb ddr3 ram, GTX 1070 and his case for $1100 total, pretty much covered the price of his new GTX 1080.

The gaming laptop would probably be a $200 potato in 4-5 years...

I can’t see myself using a desktop. I have absolutely no where to put it.

So much for your medium build lol. You’re going down a rabbit hole that has no going back!

Haha yep.

Just did a calculation of what ive spent so far...

To be fair though, most of its tied up in the GPU, although, id rather not look at the money saved for non essential stuff like non RGB parts :D

Indeed, if you're going down the gaming laptop path you probably need to dump it after a couple of years otherwise it's just burning money.

I'm not sure what space issues they have but a Mini-ITX build may be an option, there are some quite compact cases out there that can fit high-end GPUs.

Anyone recommend solid mouse and keyboards? Mech keyboards really the bees knees?

Seems anything with Cherry Brown seems the way to go for me (will use it for study as well)

Wouldn't have the faintest idea when it comes to mice.

I've used a logitech g5 through 2 pc's now and it's rock solid, it's really personal preference of what feels good in your hand though

Anything within your budget will do the job. Usually can get a good brand name combo for a good packaged price.

Mechanical is great. Better response, so lighter key press and less fatigue.

If there is any hair splitting to be done over mice it's ones that favour claw grip or palm grip. I can tell the difference and not sure what I prefer. I think I just adapt to whatever I have.

My budget kinda blew out a bit ;)

Seen the duckys but wondering whether i hold off and get the ROG ones.

haha I know you've blown your budget out but the ROG KB and mouse might finally be overkill.

This is what I'm rocking at the moment. You can choose your switch type when you buy it.

There are some cheaper bundles for under $200 but they're not RGB (which I know the rest of the rig is lol) and I'm not sure if they come in a choice of switches. I assume they would but it doesn't explicitly say.

You people and your RGB everything....

aren't cherry red the best switches?

Some people just like bling lol. Have to admit I like the flexibility. Most of my rig, KB, mouse, RAM, mobo is all RGB but I've set it all to read (except WASD + space are white, and RAM is currently solid white... what a waste of Trident Z RGB RAM). If I was to bling up my system more I'd take out my 6x red LED fans and switch them for RGB ones just so I can change it if I ever felt like it.

Red is just the type of switch. They have different ranges of clicky. Red is fairly in between. Blue sounds like an army of skeletons.

VoIP always on.
Don't have the mental dexterity to use push to talk!
You get used to it, becomes 2nd nature.

Just prefer people not hearing random convos in my background and I prefer not hearing other peoples dogs barking or partners getting up them haha.

Also, yep mouth breathing and keyboard strokes.

Thinking of entering the mechanical keyboard world, any suggestions

Don't need RGB that's expensive garbage. Maybe some form of backlighting though, I sit in the dark a lot.

Under $200 preferably

thanks
I have a Ducky with Cherry MX Brown switches. Wish I had paid extra for white backlight tho for gaming in the dark...
My only gripe is that sometimes the @ and " get swapped after having my machine on for long periods. Later discovered my work keyboard does it too on rare occasions, must be a keyboard via USB thing?
Would buy Ducky again.

My brother has a Steelseries and the spacebar kept jamming when pushing it off centre when gaming. Turns out it has one switch centred with two piss poor support outriders which obviously don't do the job. Had to improvise McGyver style with some bits of crushible rubber extrusion profile we have lying around at work.

My logitech does that as well with the @ and "

Lights are overrated :p

I was looking at this one but no backlight https://www.pccasegear.com/products/41283/ducky-one-2-skyline-mechanical-keyboard-cherry-brown
thought the white backlight is only $10 more https://www.pccasegear.com/products/41279/ducky-one-2-white-led-mechanical-keyboard-cherry-brown

The Ducky is the same but with different colours, I prefer the black over the greys personally.
Would probably dodge the Thermaltake due to quality concerns. (Hypocrite alert, I use a Thermaltake mouse and CPU cooler, sometimes mouse button 1 sticks)...
The Hyper X and Corsair both look awesome but I hate the horrid font they print on their keycaps!

Oh, and I use this wrist rest and textured keys set on my Ducky. Works a charm.

Dunno if it's still made or readily available...

Not a massive fan of my Razer Blackwidow Stealth, I've had it a while now and it just doesn't feel quite right. I think I need to find something with "short-throw" keys.

Unfortunately my mouse has just about had it so have to replace that first, unless I can find enough f**ks to give to enable me to pull the thing apart and fix the old Logitech double click issue, although the thing doesn't charge either.
