Scorptec is pretty competitive. Getting all of them from there would only cost $30 or $40 more.

Here is a modified list with a fast 500 GB as the OS drive. All items are Scorptec items as I swapped the ram for availability. Still below $2000

Yeah, you can get it assembled by them for a fee.

Putting it into Scorptec now. Whats the big deal with adding a second SSD? I'm guessing that windows runs on one and everything esle on another? Is that hard to deal with for regular non pc people?

Any advice on wireless adaptor too? Not required if I can wired connect straight from the modem into the PC?

Power supplies are boring but can you squeeze in a 750w, preferably gold rated PSU? They degrade over time so a 750w gold will not only give you more headroom for future upgrades but it will maintain better efficiency for longer.

Don't worry about a Windows key if that's what you mean by factoring in OS. Do you currently have a licensed Windows of any version running on anything at all? Because the license can be transferred and upgraded. Even if it's OEM. My Windows 11 install started life as an 8.1 OEM key. Legitimate keys can be bought online anywhere from $5-20. I will check through my emails tonight if you like because I might actually have a key you can use.

Agree with the comments re PSU.

If budget allows I’d definitely go for a bigger M2. At least 1TB but 2 if you can if it’s going to be your main storage for games. I’m a big fan of the Kingston KC3000 M2 drives.

The extra drive is just because of Dav3's suggestion.

It is a good idea but not crucial.

It is not complicated to use two drives, you just need to remember which drive you want the OS installed.

If you need wireless you can either get an adaptor or choose a motherboard that includes Wi-fi.

Decent build, the change I'd probably make is adding an SSD so there's a OS/Program drive and a data drive. It's not necessary, but it can make things cleaner if you ever need to rebuild the OS.

Take some time to find a nice monitor, it is crucial to the experience. Sound is also important.

Yeah that's more than enough. I hate to upsell but you might want to upgrade your graphics card or something in the future and hardware is only getting more thirsty.

With your budget remainder, if you're willing to spend it, you can still pick up a pretty nice monitor. With a 6700XT the 1440p market should be what you're looking at (because at 1080p you'll be leaving performance on the table). The above Techspot link is a great cheat sheet. Don't get bogged down by the different makes and models as you'll find that at each price point they're almost always using the identical panel. Just get whatever is cheaper at the time.

The only other question I have around operating system, is how hard is it to install one from scratch - If i go with the dual SSD and grab a windows key once thats all sorted, am I going to have dramas trying to install myself to the designated one?

Installing windows is easy peasy. Get a USB stick (I think they recommend 16gb), go here on another PC and download the installation media option to the USB. When you boot a blank system with the stick inserted it may automatically boot from the stick and start the install, or worst case is you enter BIOS then select to boot from the USB drive. Either way it's super easy.

You don't even need a key to install and use Windows so don't even worry about that until later if you don't want to.

You can get OEM keys for Windows for like $30, I would just do it yourself.

Basically my bottleneck is PCIE lanes rather than anything else, is there anything other than the Xeon/Threadripper market that can cater for that?

Since you can install and use windows without paying for it (pretty sure only minor limitations like can't change wallpaper and a small water mark bottom right of screen) just get the build and install Windows from USB. I'll look through my emails because I should have an unused key which I'll swing you. If it works then you will have spent $0, otherwise anyone here will show you where to grab it for under $20.

In that case no brainer. Pcie lanes are more to do with the architecture but I don't think Intel has anything comparable?

On the CPU subject I'm starting to see the importance of L3. Never been a big deal but if more AAA continue to release as unoptimised as many have this year then a big L3 like on the Ryzen X3D models is going to be almost required for any high end build. I can't believe my 5900x has been the bottleneck on my 4080 due to L3 of all things.

Thanks for that appreciate it. I reckon I'm a few weeks of putting the order in but have the system built and saved in a cart to grab it when a few bills clear.

Hate to come in at the end of your purchase here, but, do not buy that ASUS 6750, i run a pc building business and have had to rma this card everytime ive used it . It has an extremely loud coil whine under load, centrecom tell me that card has always had issues

Is 6750 a typo or because it uses the same cooler as the 6700xt? Unfortunately it doesn't look there are any other options to fit a micro ATX build.

Saw an earlier version of his list with this card in it, alarm bells went off as it has caused me so much trouble. Although im pretty sure the 6700XT has the exact same problem. Its not a small coil whine that you think you could ignore. Its incredibly loud. I would reccomend staying away from the asus dual amd cards

Probably been answered already, but yeah the general idea is that Windows and standard programs run on one, and games/data live on another. It's not critical, it's not hard to use, but if you're like a lot of us and have a shitload of data stored on the device (games, photos, important archived data) it makes reinstalling a lot easier since you can just blow away or replace the OS drive without worrying about shuffling your other data around. So for me, if Windows shits itself I don't have to redownload terabytes of game data or shift 200GB+ of photos.
