Why do people always come out and "lol" at the OP in these threads? He said he needed to step up against quality batsmen and it's fair to say we all wanted that to happen. Thankfully it eventuated and our bowling stocks are now stronger.

Nothing wrong with the OP, better than being a hindsight hero.

No different to the Clarke thread and all the nuffies who came running out from behind their mummy's after his triple ton to tell the world and bag all and sundry.

as you say it was justified at the time but good on the player for turning things around.

He still needs to improve his bowling to the tail to an extent and it's probably the reason he's not getting the bags the other bowlers are getting. 13 of his 16 wickets this series have been top order batsmen (15/16 if you count Ashwin as a decent batsman).

Don't see a problem with him dismissing the better batsman.

How does his ratio of overs to wickets against the tail stack up? Starc or Lyon always got brought on to pick up some tail end wickets when they were wicketless in the match, something the commentators talked up as inspired captaincy to improve their confidence

Also his wickets of Ashwin were well needed ones given at the time Clarkey was usually wasting time gifting Ashwin singles and the other bowlers couldnt get the no10 or 11 at the other end

Starc bowled 14 balls to tailenders at the WACA, out of his total 24.2 overs for the match.

A certain D.K. Lillee had a better record against top order batsmen than lower order batsmen. You know why? Many of the balls they bowl to dismiss top order batsmen are too good for the lower order batsmen. Instead of getting nicks like the top order batsmen, tailenders tend to miss these deliveries.

FWIW, which wickets do you consider were more important in India's second innings? Siddle's 3 or Hilfenhaus' 4 wickets.

I'm not suggesting by any means that it's a bad thing, just that it explains his consistency without a huge haul. Siddle's arguably taken the big wicket just when Australia needed it all summer (Tendulkar in Melbourne twice, breaking the Laxman/Kohli partnership in Perth).

In the NZ series though he got brought back on when the tail was in because he wasnt taking top order wickets
I think you might find that it was just his turn to bowl and it looked that way. Clarke has been rotating his quicks and trying to avoid them bowling more than a 6 or 7 over spell tops. If this means they get taken off when the tail is coming in so be it.

Starc bowled a lot better in Perth, I think being dropped made him realise he needs to be more consistent if he wants to play more tests.

 OP implied Siddle was rubbish. I disagreed roughly 7 hours later. I'm just rubbing it in that I was right and they were wrong.

Childish I will admit, but hindsight hero? We clearly have different definitions of the term.

Siddle was rubbish. The OP wanted Siddle to get better. Siddle got better.

Take that OP!

Wait, what?

Ahem ,,, the OP was saying ...?

Time for Siddle to stand up. Did you need it said again. He indeed has improved which is what I wanted as I'm sure many.

What he needs to now like all the other bowlers in perform in less bowler friendly conditions.

Lion hearted, but why does he start so many overs with an absolute pie...

Half tracker, half volley at 130kph... He bowls enough good deliveries to play test cricket but he really needs to switch on from ball 1 in an over / spell because his first offering very regularly gets plucked from the boundary rope.

p.s. well timed thread with Siddle knocking over Petersen (must be said with a nude medium fast delivery a foot outside off)

Has he had his teeth done?

We drew but through no fault of this great man. One of the bravest performances you'll ever see.

Big effort today, but proved why he's not a spearhead at this level.

Hilfenhack on the other hand once again proved why he's not a test-quality bowler - period. Just as Wade proved likewise in the wicketkeeping department. Come back Haddin, all is forgiven. Bet yet - Paine, Triffit or Neville.

We desperately need an upgrade on Lyon. The most non-threatening test spinner since Murray Bennett.

I agree on all points except the last one.

Lyon got some big scalps this game.

He may not be a spearhead or number one strike bowler, but he balances the attack nicely. To have a guy who can send down spells like today when required is invaluable. He rarely gets carted and is one of our more economical fast men.

He frequently takes the ball after a handy partnership has been established and bowls a tight spell.
