Im actually hope we get Lewis Johnston, Screw the Swans needing to draft Johnston in order to start planning life without Barry hall, we have been planning since Modra left!

I am not convinced we should draft Lewis Johnston, especially with pick 10.

I admit i have only seen him play once (that underage game on Foxtel) so my opinion maybe misguided and isn’t based on much evidence but he reminds me a lot of Luke Jericho, and that scares me that we have just got rid of one and we go and draft another.

He has plenty of pace, moves extremely well on the lead, has a nice set of hands and a good kick but didn’t put his body on the line. For someone who is 192 cm, he didn’t crash and bash the packs like someone his size should. It’s a bit of a worry that another first round pick could amount to nothing but a good SANFL player.

From my perspective it appeared as if he got the cheap possession and kicked the easy goal. I don’t know if i am right or wrong but taking him at pick 10 seems a bit dangerous to me.

I agree crows98 there's just something about him that makes me feel uneasy when i think of him and pick 10. and I'm fully on the Trengove wagon!

Why?
(Not a why as in WTF) but a why as in i don’t know much about him, what are his strengths and weaknesses.

I'd be chuffed with Trengove. I'm very much hoping we'll pick him up, just as long as we're sure his leg is okay, as there were a lot of question marks over that. If he's suffered long term nerve damage, or is seen to be injury prone, then he could well end up being the next Chad Gibson. If not, we might just have a bloody good player on our hands.

I'm comfortable to say that basing my opinion on very little, but even a few highlights packages are enough to show that he's extremely athletic for his size, is a great overhead mark, and, best of all, knows how to use his size to his advantage. He's not afraid to rough a bloke up, and attacks the ball and the man with equal ferocity. I like that a LOT in a player. I know we're all a bit sick of tall blokes who are too short to ruck but aren't natural forwards or backmen, but Trengove doesn't strike me as one of those. From what I've seen and read around the place, he looks to have the natural aggression, instinct and athleticism to make it in any position.

I'm not going to be shattered if we don't pick him up, as I trust our recruiting staff, given that they've seen a hell of a lot more of every player than pretty much everyone around here (especially myself), but of every player who's been suggested as an option for pick 10, Trengove looks like the best fit to me. I'd love to have a bloke like him in the side. A real intimidating presence on the football field, no matter where he lines up.

I don't normally cream myself over blokes who, statistically, are more likely to end up delisted after a few years than end up the great saviour we all want, but I really do like the look of Jackson, although I am well aware that he's not exactly the type of bloke who you'd class as a safe pick. I'd rather take a gamble on a player like Jackson though, than play it safe with another small to add to our young midfield stocks that have, to date, shown a hell of a lot more than our young talls.

I could write a lot but I'll just summarise and say that I'm on the Trengove bandwagon too, though I'm still holding out hope that we'll get Sidebottom :p Realistically though there are probably ten players I'd be supremely happy with so at least one of them will still be available at the Crows' pick.

I'm still not sold on Johnstone but that doesn't mean I know enough to really comment.

Dandy_Go your not the only one who's creamed himself over this bloke, as i have been doing the same for the past couple of months or so. As you said he has the natural instinct, aggression, athleticism and competitiveness, and i know most people see him as a CHB, i think he can genuinely be a CHF of the Travis Cloke mold, and like Travis, Trengove will need some work on his kicking. I don't think i have ever been as excited about a dreftee as i am with Trengove, where i have a lot of man love for him ala VC with sidebotom.

On his injury, apparently the report has come out very positive, so i don't think there is too much to worry about there.

Not to mention every little bit of info on this kid has mentioned, loves the rough stuff, likes getting stuck into his opponant.

Emma Quayle wrote that he love getting into the heads of his opponants and got into the mind of the usually un-flusterable, Ben McEvoy.

I emailed Emma a question regarding Trengove and us picking him up. This was her reply.

I'd have Trengove at No.10 at the moment, with McKernan and Davis in the mix. Looking at Matt Rendell's draft picks last year, he seemed to like players with a bit of spunk and attitude about them. I think Jackson fits that bill - plus he's big. quick and versatile. His kicking needs some work but, given that all his latest medial reports seem encouraging, I can definitely seem them picking him. - EQ

nice work :thumbsu:

they seem to be the 'big 3' no doubt. rendells comments were very interesting re that 5-6 tall players could have gone number 1 in previous yrs. i just reckon on saturday that talls may go higher than most phantom drafts are predicting - tengrove before 10 for example.

tengrove then davis/mc kernan is my best guess

Im an unashamed Lewis fan, so im bias, but I reckon he'd be a great pick for you at 10. Im hoping he somehow falls to 22.

As for didnt crash and bash etc. im pretty sure he had the most contested marks in the Champs. His game before the Power match at AAMI was also excellent and had something like 4 or 5 contested marks in that match alone. This alone puts him well ahead of Luke 'please dont touch me' Jericho.

He is quite lean so would need to spend good time in the gym. I think overall he isnt going to be that pack busting CHF, but has plenty of other positive traits that could see him succeed at AFL level.

Would help to get his name right first. Johnston.

Not having a go at you cmnd, but the amount of people that get his name wrong on BF is ridiculous.

I guess we should be lucky his name is the only one people on BF get wrong.....:cool:

i guess that’s something knowing he isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty but i don’t know. Look i am not saying he isn’t a good player but i have my concerns about picking him up at pick 10, going at Pick 28 on the other hand would be a steal.

God damn it, I really tried on that too, because I know it's commonly mispelled. I actually went to a thread on D&T to find his name, where I found it spelt a number of different ways and went with the one most commonly used :(

I knew I should have just gone to Emma's draft. On that note, I think it's awesome that such a respected and prolific draft writer actually responds to emails. It shows she really cares about the draft and is interested in talking about it.
