After watching a very entertaining game today on FoxFooty between Collingwood and West Coast, I must say the incident in the last quarter where Phil Matera who in my opinion "king hit" Lockeyer of Collingwood from behind was very ordinary and will certainly be looked at closely on the video this week!!

The bump from Wilson on Shane Wakelin was sensational, and it may have taken away the umpire's focus as they happened at the same time, but it was very clear on the tv what Matera did and in my opinion hitting someone from behind when he has no chance to defend himself is gutless and not necessary in our game!!

Attempted shepphard... not a chance!! ;);)

What did everyone else think??

Go Cats!! :)

It took a while for everyone to figure out what happened. I originally thought Wilson came thru and knocked him out....or as he knocked Wakelin, Wakelin got pushed back into Lockyear which then knocked him out.....but the incident was very very suspect. He should go for 2 weeks for that....maybe 3

i hate to agree.... but IMO the replay shows that he lifted his elbow... could be gone for a couple of weeks, especially considering that Lockyer got totally wiped out

the least he couldve done was take that mark in the dying seconds and win it for us before he gets suspended!!!

I dont know what you three were watching....??

Siendude....king hit from behind....were you watching the WC/Coll game?

Lockyer tried to sheperd Matera....not the other way around. Matera probably lifted his arms to protect himslef from the bump and Lockyer came off second best. I doubt he'll even be reported. It wasnt intended nor malicious, just unfortunate.

hate to disagree with a fellow eagles supporter, i really do, but, IMO (dont hate me for this) when Lockyer was running by, Phil raised his elbow, now, it may or may not be intentional but the fact that it knocked Lockyer out will most likely suspend Phil

Pretty dodgy move by Matera.
I was not happy, and the fact that it happened at a very critical part of the game didn't help my frustration.

He will definatly get an appoitment.

Matera's action was careless rather than malicious and certainly not a king hit. It was pretty bad however and I'm with Macca 19's 2-3 week guess

As for Troy Wilson's bump in the same passage - awesome!! That guy is an absolute Mack truck when he works a bit of pace up.

Definitely not a king hit, Lockyer saw him coming and attempted to ride what he thought would be a bump. It was the raised elbow that did the damage, the second replay shown on Ch10 clearly displayed the incident.

It was a bit ordinary. Give him a week or two and a stern talking to.

*sniff*, you gotta love the guy for it! :D

How he manages to do it all legally amazes me! ;)

It hurt the Eagles more than it did Collingwood.

We were on a role at that stage, and the break in play as Lockyer was stretchered off really broke our momentum.

jod, I'm not sure what you were watching, but it certainly looked to me like he simply lifted his elbow and smacked him on the face...the tribunal may have a different opinion, sure, but geez, it was pretty ordinary...looked pretty much "intended"....

I taped the game and since all this talk has come up about it i have watched the replay many times. Lockyer goes to sheperd Matera, Matera protects himslef, it slips high. It wasnt intended, it wasnt malicious and Phillip has a good record im pretty sure at the tribunal so i doubt he'll go.

Lockyer was describing the incident to someone on the bench. He was obviously indicating by raising his elbow that Matera had done this to him. This takes away the notion that it was "from behind". Anyway it looked nasty and deliberate and he should go for 4. If Lockyers' jaw had been broken then most people would not have a problem with such a suspension. As his jaw is not broken then he will probably get less than 4. It doesn't alter the fact that he was reckless and could of easily have done more damage. I'm not too sure that the extent of injury should affect the suspension as it appears to do now - IMO.
