what ground is that?

You would think it would be Princess Park, i cant imagine it being at any other ground.

They are probably facing the grandstand when it should be actually behind them.

I got the photo - which appears to be a post card style by Boyle off Ebay - going for $125 which i reckon is overs a bit.

I collect these sort of things from time to time

That top photo that was the OP was going for $25 - which i did buy.

I think this pretty much confirms that it was taken in front of the outer at Princes Park:-

This is the other one for sale at the same price but obviously in front of one of the stands, that looks like a players race behind them

The players in the photo look rather similar to this group from 1940:-

You know what , I think you are right, I was trying to read the top
Left writing and couldn't work it out, but clearly it now says Ararat.

Cheers
There's some Ararat team photos from that era (if it does say 1932) out there, with player names shown:-

http://www.boylesfootballphotos.net.au/1934+Weekly+Times+Photo+Series (1928 ?)
http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/224560814

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/223849729 (1933)

The player in the photo you posted looks a fair bit like J. Block, but if he's meant to be Fred someone that would make him a less likely candidate.

Cheers for that, i did notice that it says Fred ......... r (?)son.

Maybe something like Williamson, Patterson etc

Also this guy looks older than the players to me, perhaps he was the coach ?.

Got him, most probably! Fred Anderson is a very likely candidate:-

Mr. Fred. Anderson, a former senior player of the Ararat Football Club, and post master at Glenthompson, has been appointed playing coach to that club.

http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/205823669 (April 1931)

It can't have been a successful season for him (1931), as Bill Twomey (of Collingwood fame) was captain coach in 1932.

Yep, i reckon that would be him :):thumbsu:, good for Fred i suppose, although i personally was hoping a Bill Twomey type find.

You must be some sort of gun on trove, i was poking around for about an hour and had trouble even getting a couple of names around Ararat and Football

Fred Anderson was cleared from Ararat to Glen Thompson football club in May 1931, so I presume it was that club that he was playing coach of in 1931:- http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/72633525

Twomey was captain coach at Ararat in 1931.

So did Anderson go back to Ararat in 1932? The name seems to fit, but I'm now a bit doubtful.

Edit: Indeed there was an Anderson playing for Ararat in 1932, so Fred must have returned to his old club after just one year away.

Appears Fred was playing fullback, must admit he has got that sort of no nonsense, take no prisoners look about him.

Wonder if this was young Fred :)

INJURED AT FOOTBALL'.
A lad named Fred Anderson was hurt in a football match at Buangor on Saturday. On Monday he had to "be brought in to the hospital, when it
was found his right elbow was dislocated. ( 1906)

I have dislocated my elbow, it %^*(&^ hurts.

You would have thought they would have known a bit earlier than Monday

You'd think it rather likely that it was the same Fred Anderson.

He was playing for (and living at) Horsham in (at least) 1924 and 1925. You can see here that he got a Post Office job at Ararat in May 1926. We know he was working in the Post Office a few years later:- http://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/73004946

Obviously the club is a give away.View attachment 312345
This is probably from 1944 or perhaps 1946. I can't find a copy of it anywhere. Arthur Olliver (centre, middle row) was captain-coach 1943-1946 & 1948-1950, and I imagine he was occupying the "prime position" in the photo because of that. Star forward Bill Wood is on the right side of the middle row. He debuted in 1944 (didn't play in 1945) and played until 1951. I'm pretty sure it's Jim Miller (future club President) second from left on the front row. He played from 1938-1948. I think it's Pat Hand in the middle of the back row. He played for the club 1943-1947 & 1949.

There's a 1946 photo here where there's a few "familiar faces":- http://www.boylesfootballphotos.net.au/Footscray+Team+Photos

You impress me Daics. Second from right standing is my grandfather.

Not sure what years that photo is but did not notice Charlie Sutton or Teddy Whitten, Sutton started in 1942.

But maybe that is Sutton sitting on left.
Sutton didn't play from 1943-1945, however. I'd be surprised if it wasn't 1944, just maybe 1946.
