Hey all,

I thought it might be a bit of fun to have an educated guess at who we will draft with out 10th pick.

I'm tipping young Rioli but I'm hoping like hell Ebert slides down to 10.

Well our first preference obviously is that Ebert slides down to pick 10. If not, then I think if Myers is still there at 10, we'll take him.

If Ebert and Myers are both gone before our pick, then I dunno what we'll do. Rioli's an option, although may not be the best available. Also heard people talking about Grimes and Ward, although most people seem to have Ward going in the 20's so not sure if it's worth taking him at 10.

I doubt we'll be taking a key position player, but if we do, it'll be who's available out of McEvoy, Henderson or Rance. I'd be hoping Rance is available but I still don't think we'd pick him up. It's quite annoying because the year we want a midfielder instead of a key position player, it might be the key position players that slide. Just hoping either Ebert of Myers is still there.

Pick 10 I am guessing will be Ebert (and would love it to be) but I hope it is Myers. Rate him 3rd behind Kruezer and Cotchin. Modern freak player, runs all day very attacking off half back and through the middle. Half McPhee half Corey.

Having said that Ebert is my 4th highest, basically a better version of Scott Thompson, big strong bodied midfielder. Voss rates him as #1.

I hope you are right and Ebert is our picks. However, I just can't see him lasting until 10. I could potentially see him being overlooked by Melbourne, Essendon, Bulldogs, Freo etc... but for some reason I just cannot see him slipping past brisbane at 8. From what I have read about Ebert, to me he is the typical type of player that Leigh Matthews would absolutly love and with the Lions stating they are after a big midfielder, I just can't see them overlooking Ebert.

Personally, I would be stoked if we could get young Brad. We would get a local kid with great pedigree. He would also be a great big strong, body to have in the middle and is skilled on both sides. Can play a number of positions and has leadership qualities and bucketloads of courage. For every reason that I like him as a player, its the same reason I see Brisbane and in particular Matthews liking him as a player.

If Ebert is not there, I hope we go for some young midfield prospect with pace and X factor. So Rioli in the long term looks to be that sort of player.

Yer stiffy I know...logically in one's head it is hard to fathom him sliding to 10 and it prolly won't happen but can't 'see' us pickign any other player bar him atm. Don't really like Rioli much, doesn't do it for me as much as Ebert and co, certainly a great FP but I'd be after bigger and stronger footballers in the middle first.

I'm in Stiffy's corner - I really hope that Ebert becomes a Crow after the draft!!

The general consensus seems to be that Myers would be a very good get and could go anywhere between 4 and 12 - but more likely to be in a similar range to Ebert of 6 to 10.

If they're both gone, then I wouldn't mind Rioli - I have seen him play and he would fill a gap that we have in our team as a quick crumbing forward who kicks goals and applies great defensive pressure. Long term he should make a mid-fielder as well.

So my wish list in order is

1. Ebert

2.Myers

3. Rioli

whilst i do have reservations about Rioli at pick 10, unless Ebert or perhaps Myers fall through, there seems to be very little about that is high on our shopping list at that pick. If we were going to pick up an indigenous player like Rioli then now would be the time, with Mcleod still there and Johncock to work as role models he could develop quite well.

Whilst Rioli does fail to excite, there is also very little else in that 8-12 kind of bracket that also excites me and since we do need a small crumbing forward desperately, unless Craig decides either Mcleod, Edwards or Johncock should do it, he is probably the best bet and since Vez and Maric wont last till 27, Rioli might be the way to go.

In saying that, don't write off Ebert just yet, recruiters often have very different thoughts to everyone else, none of us dared to believe Sellar would fall through to 14 last year when he was touted as a #1 draft pick ahead of Gibbs half way through 06, so you never know.

Lets just hope they take Grimes...because he is very similar to ebert in may ways but ebert just has more upside by being bottom-age and already having to body to play afl straigh away where as grimes body isn't as solid as ebert's. I just hope this whole ebert being royalty in 'port adelaide' does put question marks over his long jeopardy at any non-sa teams he ends up with (very unlikely).

I just have the feeling that if both Myers and Ebert aren't there at 10 (would be extremely dissapointed to say the least), i just have a feeling we may take up Grimes, which is not a good pick but i was hoping our pick 10 would become a future 'star' rather then a solid afl player. I just see grimes very much in the VB model but not as great.

With rioli at 10 is for me not an idea choice what so ever. For some reason i am not very convinced over his ability to become a permanent midfielder and if were going for that sort (which NC said he won't with his 1st pick) i would take vez without a question (provides more versatility and grunt, which we need).

For mine like all of you so far the ideal player at 10 is either Myers or Ebert. But if both are not available then i would go with who TS took in the Phantom in Ward, really like the sound of him and many people believe he has a lot more upside to most in the draft. Also stats don't always lie and he is a goal kicking, tough onballer who we could really use to give the midfield more penetration.

I have a weird sort of feeling about this draft!!! Last year I had a really good feeling that we'd pick up a big slider and we got Sellar! This year a feel we might get stooged And we swear at every draft pick up until 10 and then swear at 10 e.g. Ebert, Myers, Rioli all gone by pick 10 and us picking up a ruckman like McEvoy and Bellchambers, just because the club thinks they are the next best. They might turn out to be great players, but I want someone who will at least be ready to play 10ish games in their 2nd year.

I think Essendon will pick up Ebert @ 6 and it will go something like this:

If it does pan out like this we may be forced into going for some talls, perhaps in the mould of a Rance, a Gourdis or a Collier. Collier at least can play as a midfielder as well as a defender. In terms of our needs, I don't think KP defender would be high, with Rutten, Bock, Stevens, Moran, McGregor all in the side and still with the better parts of their careers ahead of them, so maybe Gourdis who is a hard running CHF from WA whose profile on BF reads pretty well.

If we were dead set against talls, we would be looking at Vez or Maric, both of whom could be very valuable pick ups in the long term and suit our needs perhaps more so than the talls. In the end its either what we need or best available. Best available hasn't necesarilly served us well in the past, ie. Watts, Angwin, Meesen and Pfeiffer, so maybe its worth going by the shopping list in this case.

I don't care who we get just as long as they play at least 20 games, actually make that 10. It would be a nice change from our previous 1st round draft picks.

John Reid we need some bloody pace and a few strong bodies in the MIDFIELD PLEASE!!! Goody and Edwards will be gone soon... we need much more midfield depth. We already have a good batch of KPP coming through. We need a good midfielder much more than a young KPP. We might need one more KPP but surely we can find one with our 2nd rounders. KPP's projected that could available around our pick 10 and are worth it are:

Rance, Collier, Grant, Gourdis, Henderson and McEvoy. Henderson/Rance/Grant might not be available with our pick- IMO St Kilda might snap Rance up with pick 9... they are desperately in need of a defender. However a spciallist defender isn't really sort after in a draft- usually recruiters want a guy that can play both ends of the ground. Rance is a specialist backman. Henderson and Grant are both in line for the Doggies pick and so is McEvoy. Collier and Gourdis both should be available at our pick. Gourdis= athletic freak, needs work on his kicking and can go missing in games. Collier can play down back but has enough pace and a big enough engine to play midfield. Was available last year though... recruiters don't like something about him. If McEvoy, Henderson or Grant are available we should pick one of them up but if Ebert or Myers are still there I'd want one of them. They are both tall midfielders- more and more important in the modern game. Ebert is an inside mid, Myers and outside mid. Myers played HBF at the champs but should play midfield in the AFL. I'd be happy with Henderson, Grant, McEvoy, Ebert or Myers. They should become pretty good AFL players- but it is a lottery though. I don't know why we still want a KPP- our drafting record is pretty shizenhousen with our first pick and to choose a KPP is risky... Ebert would be perfect- he is a safe bet to be a good AFL player.

Here's my go ....

I agree 100% with Thunderstruck ......although I thought your Phantom draft choices sucked

Went talls last draft and overlooked Edwards who'll be an exceptional player.

Believe mids will be the go and expect Western Australians to dominate early draft selections and IMO also Adelaides thinking as WA boys find it harder to get home than Vic boys what with all the vic clubs to choose from.

In my preference order:

1. Myers ......WA lad who has a fantastic leg on him, a great runner and is a190cm genuine midfielder. Can go down back so offers the flexibility that Craigs wants.

2. Ebert .....local lad and has trained with us so we know him well. Good size at 187cm and will supply the strength in the midfield to replace Roo and Goody. Had an ordinary championship which may help him slip to 10 ......although it doesn't appear to have hurt Cotchins rep.

3. Vespremi ......have a good respect for Vicrows opinion on the guy having seen him play a lot. Again had injury interupted year which will see him drop a bit but definately came into 2007 as a top 10 pick after a good championship last year.

For the same reasons as Ebert .....Vespremi provides a bit of grunt and flexibility.

4. Rance .....IMO a very good replacement for Bassett ....a taller & quicker version who has an attacking flair about him.

5. Rioli .....my only query is his tank which he apparently tested poorly for a midfielder at the draft camp. This will definately see him slide ....how far is the question.

It's not out of the question he could drop into the low 20's ...........God that was a bad call losing pick 22 ......you dunderhead Rendell!!!!!!

Other Predictions:

1. We won't draft a ruckmen ! .....will IMO will rookie one though.

2. We look at mids and around 190cm tall defenders capable of playing small & tall (like Hart and Bassett) - picking up Taylor helped the offensive stocks.

3. Expect later picks to go with SANFL players - how many unknown.

Will be surprized if #10 isn't one of my selections ....notice only one Victorian in my pick list

Pretty good summary there WW, although i'm pretty sure we'd go Ebert over Myers, even if its just for the no "go home" factor. The rest seem pretty solid choices although i think Gourdis might excite Craig with his athleticism.

As for the ruckman, the earliest i would see us picking one would be pick 38, but most likely a rookie option instead.

Seems to be a fair stock of mids so wouldn't be suprised if we picked up a couple of them.

Once Adelaide has settled on its order, it is fair to say that the player ranked 10th by the Crows will not be a Crow on November 24. You would instead expect that a player (or more than one) ranked 3-9 on Adelaide's list will slip through because apart from a couple of obvious picks there will be a fair bit of difference between top ten lists at all the clubs. Kreuzer, Cotchin and Morton won't be available. I can't see Henderson being ignored by nine clubs. Palmer will probably go but I'm not in the Masten fan club so I'm not counting on him going early. Same with McEvoy, although I don't think the Crows will be scared off picking a big bloke if he is the highest ranked player on their list. Anyway, I reckon it will be between Myers, Ebert, Selwood, Rance, Otten and Dangerfield. Can't see them using 10 on Maric but I would understand Ward and even Grimes. Not sure about Rioli at 10, and don't think Grant is worth that pick. If we go for the midfield type, hopefully one of Tarrant, Lobbe, Simpson or Gourdis is still available at 27 or 30.
