I don't want Richards because I think it is a sentimental reach. I thought Coffield looked a bit fragile and wondered where he'd fit in to our needs. Fogarty is neither here nor there size-wise, and that applies to any of the other 190 cm utility types. I don't want anyone who has shown a susceptibility to injury, so won't be getting a boner over Bonar, nor would Stephenson appear in my short list. I liked the look of Murphy but agreed that he didn't seem to show more than marking and kicking ability in his highlights' reel. The remaining players are either most likely out of reach or KPPs. I would be tempted to pass and make some strong statements about shallow drafts and taking a united stand, appealing to other clubs to also boycott the draft and refuse to select beyond pick 5.

Not much to choose from then, hopefully the one they pick will grow on you in time, and be the player we need

If you measure it on direct, day to day impact on the club over a long period of time then Ron probably has Lou beaten. Player, Reseves coach, chairman of selectors... who was it sitting beside Lethal in 1990...

Lou was a far far far better player by all accounts.

Numbers off the charts for small forward


Oakleigh Chargers dynamo Jack Higgins is shaping as a steal of Friday’s NAB AFL National Draft if Champion Data’s numbers are any indicator.

Champion Data analyst Glenn Luff says the 18-year-old’s numbers are off the charts.

“In terms of playing as a forward-half player and midfield, his numbers are unbelievable and he does it every week,” he told SEN’s The Run Home.

“From a junior point of view in terms of consistency, quantity and quality, his numbers are the best we’ve seen.

“They are saying he’ll go about pick 11 or 12 but we’d have him going at pick 5.”

Intriguing to see Twomey having Fogarty go top 5 and Cerra slide to us. I'd be over the moon with that result, Cerra is definitely my dream result at pick 6. There's a few other players I'd be ok with that will likely be available, Naughton, Coffield just ahead of Fogarty would be on my next tier, with Murphy or Richards following that.

I think Bonar as TRS has alluded to is a very risky choice, and is quite susceptible to further injuries, I don't believe that is a risk we should be taking this year. Sure he might be great, I hope he has a long and healthy career, but we don't need that level of doubt surrounding such an important pick.

Stephenson so much talent, speed that we need, X factor that we need, but the heart condition and the effects of the medication on his energy levels is unfortunate, such a shame it's only been detected so recently. If we could be absolutely sure his health wasn't going to affect his performance I'd be fine with him at 6, but with certain scribes suggesting he could slip all the way into the 20's there's clearly some serious concerns.

Anyway it's almost here, I'm looking forward to Friday night and with that not having to check this thread, other threads, twitter etc like a fiend.

UPDATE: BRISBANE Lions are set to settle on Cameron Rayner as this year’s No.1 draft pick after holding a marathon list meeting on Wednesday.

The Herald Sun understands the Lions will hold their nerve and take the explosive goalkicker, who they rank as the best player in the draft.

The Lions yesterday discussed whether to instead take future leader Andrew Brayshaw at No.1 and also select brother Hamish to help the pair relocate north.

But Brisbane is confident Rayner will adjust to life at the Gabba under the club’s impressive new leadership and develop into a damaging midfielder.

Barring a last-minute backflip, Rayner is their man.

The Lions are likely to draft close mate Lachlan Fogarty at No.15, if he is still available, to help the Western Jets boys settle in Brisbane.

Sydney holds the No.14 pick and senior coach John Longmire interviewed Fogarty at his Williamstown house on Tuesday.

Gotta cut the romanticism BS with Richards. If we've gambled our 2nd rounder on a Rookie half back flanker from Sydney and are going to use our pick 6 on another half back flanker that to me is ridiculous. Suggests to me that we are not rebuilding our back half.. we're actually starting from scratch.

We lack that presence up forward.. what better way to get our mojo back up front with a Fogarty. Fogarty Moore and a play for Lynch next yr.. po po po.. that's madness right there.

And apparently given his lack of endurance at this stage of his career.. Fogarty is actually best suited to the forward line. So we will see him line up there no doubt.

Naughton wants to play for Collingwood and is good to go come round 1. The big bodied McLarty.. add Naughton and Scharenberg.. Maynard Crisp on the flanks.. with the Sydney rookie in there breaking the lines like a headless chook.. I like the looks of that.

Fogarty reminds me of Daniel Menzel before his knee reconstructions. He's explosive and a few cms taller than Menzel.

Everyone complaining that he won't have the tank to be a midfielder seems to forget his 2km time trial was 30 seconds better than Rayner. Fogarty has 5 kilos + 5 cms on Rayner, and also he's been injured all year. Fog is our man.

And let's be patient with him.. like De Goey.. Roughead was a bit of a kreas in his first couple of yrs.

Tell Kane that that is not good enough! If you haven't replied do so and abmonish in capitals that Richards should have tanked the interviews, as in played with his phone, talked about his drug habbits whether he dabbles or not, avoided eye contact, and mid interview picked his nose, examined the mucus, and what would have been vary daring is to have eaten it, which would have been sure to have turned all the other clubs off.

It's Collingwood or bust, I suspect Gavin and Callum Brown have advised Tyler to do the same so other clubs don't **** with his bid. Josh Daicos must have done something similar last year.
