I've cooled a lot on Fogarty. For a guy we want as a tall forward he doesn't seem to have a very good forward craft. I like to see players with different avenues to goal. You don't see him making good leads. You don't see him kicking lots of goals from ground level. He fights hard for the ball at ground level, has a decent sidestep, but basically bullocks over players by drawing tackles and releasing hand passes. He gets compared to Stringer but he just doesn't have the bag of tricks for that to fly for mine. I'm not sure that cuts it at AFL level? Or am I missing something?

My initial assessment of Fogarty was he looked a great third tall in defence because he reads the incoming ball well and looks a marking presence in that role which he doesn't as a forward. Which is a good combo with his other qualities (speed, attack on the ball, kicking) in that role. I also like his attributes for midfield if he can get his endurance up which I think would take a few preseasons, which is fine.

If we're to gamble on a tall forward at 6 I reckon Bonar has a lot more going for him in terms of playing qualities for the role. But it'd be a hell of a risk.
Brander is the best forward. Tarrant like.

Think we have gone off Coffee tbh besides he wants to be a dog. Saints or Dogs will have him. Its between Cerra, Fogarty and Naughton imo with Richards, Bonar and Murphy outside smokies. But we should take one of those first 3.

Knocks as follows as far as I can read

Cerra - do we need another midfilder
Fogarty - is he a genuine kpp or just a tall midfielder...(injured last year too) ....and does that matter anyway
Naughton - can he kick. If he purely a defender or could he play forward too. Barracks for the Pies though!

Richards - grandson of a 140 gamer is hardly a convincing argument by itself, is he worthy on his merits of pick 6
Bonar - two knee recos
Murphy - do we need another midfielder

Interesting discussion points. We are desperate for a kpp but are any worthy of pick 6 if it means kocking back a potential superstar midfielder?

Rayner wont make it past 1 imo.

Equally happy with Cerra or Fog then Naughton. Also open to taking a risk on Bonar. Massive risk though not sure we can afford to make a risk that big
I'm sure your right re Rayner.
Looks like will be 1

But that said we might get a slider for 38 too.

6: Cerra/Coffield
38: Bonar (Big if) / Petty/ Wooler

With the lack of mail coming out of the club, everyone is guessing. I wouldn't take too much notice of anything I heard at this stage. I'm still personally hoping we take him (assuming the heart thing is not serious) I think he has match-winner written all over him.

Yeah, agree. Think he and Bonar look the most likely types to pull something out of the bag to get the team over the line. Their pace is another added benefit. Yet neither is without risk. Fogarty appears to offer less x-factor but along with Bonar and Stephenson I think they are the 3 that most meet a team need for medium-tall forward options.

I reckon Ed would love us to take Richards.

I'd love us to be able to take Richards, just don't think he's in the picture at pick 6.

Cerra would get us thinking about the likes of Lynch next yr.. at one stage thought.. no more f mids.. but if it adds polish and pazaz to the mix.. then get Cerra.. but f don't let me down by not pulling out an open cheque book for Lynch.. give him what he wants.

Fogarty Moore Lynch.. all very different.. and will not get in the way of each other I feel. They'd compliment each other nicely. Fogarty not overly tall for a key forward. So he can run amok around the 50 metre mark.. Moore can be our work horse up front.. whilst kicking goals.. and Lynch.. the big key monster.

That's my take.

Might be an idiot.. but ehhh.. oh well.

The Key is who North Melbourne selects.

Raynor, LDU and Dow are locked in for top 3.

Talk that Freo keen on Brayshaw at 5.

2 weeks ago North were all over Stephenson despite his heart condition, but get the feeling they'll join in the rest of the clubs in skipping on him.

Twomey has North selecting Fogarty at 4 which from a list perspective makes sense for them, he's exactly the type of player they lack. They have no forwards in that 190cm-194cm range, there's Mason Wood but he should be roaming through the middle more.

Which could leave Cerra for us.

How good is the draft build up just quietly..
Love the speculation.

I know dave. Some of us are not to serious tonight and talking up kids, and are having fun doing so.
Love to have Richards at our club, but not at six. It is one of the reasons l wanted to get more picks in later in the first. To get kids like Bonar and Richards. There some good kids there, and a club will take a risk and get one.

I agree. 6 is too High to taking Richards but not stopped Hine in the Past. Taking Players like De Goey was Rated between 10 and 20 and he took him at 5

It’s an unfortunate position for us to be in, from a media scrutiny perspective, because I think our selection will be dissected most of any within the first round. Partly because it’s us, but also because of the options available to us.

If we go small we’ll get questioned over why we didn’t address our KPP issues and if someone from the nominal top 5 slips and we overlooked them for a tall we’ll be pilloried for letting them through. Doubly so if the KPP doesn’t kick on and the mid does.

IMO, from the names you listed only Richards will lead to melts tonight and the only reason they’ll be restrained is some warped sense of sentimentality with his grandfather.

Cerra is deadly moving the ball inside 50, just rarely misses targets. We recruited Wells for this very reason and is the type of player we lack.

Bonar's first Reco the graft didn't take, this one has, he should be fine going forward. I like the risk/reward with him, just has X factor and whoever gets him i will be envious of.

It's on Foxtel yeah so need to find a venue like Zagames. Anyone recommend a good spot in StKilda/Elwood? One where they don't turn the sound down where it's only for lip readers.
