reminds me of dustin fletcher.
Dont buy into the 9th player on our list.
Going into trade we had 3 needs ruck, KPD and crunbing forward/outside mid. WE got graham in trade which meant we were always gonna get 1 outside midf and 1 KPD in this draft.
He was probably rated the 9th best player in terms of our needs and not the overall draft.
Happy to get him looks quality though.

Maybe he became the ninth player on our list when we announced we were giving up our first two picks.;)

Reading Hamish's comments I sense that even if we kept our first and second round picks we were always going to take Sam with our 2nd round pick, the fact that he was still there at pick 62 was a pleasant surprised

I would imagine that is exactly what it means and I imagine it included every player in the draft.

There are only so many KPD's listed.

so what im hearing our realistic needs list was something like:
Kennedy 1
O'brien 2
Clurey 3
Mason 4
.....
Siggins 9

That seems fair.

According to Velocity Sports he's 196cm, but I don't trust them :p

They also mention this:

Sounds like he's already very fit which is a good thing :thumbsu: Though I guess being skinny as a rake helps.
That is oneshitty thing about Siggy...he is managed by that shit agency that has caused so much grief! Hopefully he sees the light and drops those moffos!

Doubt it.
if we took Clurey who we were linked with at 20 doubt we would also get siggins

Well, just read through the 7 pages, and we talk about the recruiters spin. I've just read from many a recruiting expert on here just from watch a highlights video, that we have a player better than Davis, the next Dustin Fletcher, 9th on out list, all for the bargain draft pick of number 62, WOW!

Look, I wish him the best and hope he turns in to a player for us, and sure lets get excited, but lets not get ahead of ourselves either. Everyone puts spin on their draft choices, but lets not let a highlight video do the talking and announce we have a superstar before he even gets to Adelaide.

Get your facts right :p

Come on guys, better than Davis?

Let's hate the guy for leaving but can we please have some semblance of honest posting. Davis is a very good player and when the GWS get better, so will he. He had a poor season because the players around him had a poor season. When the young kids get better and allow th GWS to be a competitive unit, his skills and leadership will come to the surface.

Suggesting Sam Siggins is better and will be a better player in the long run, is very insulting to 17 other recruiters who passed him 80 times. Don't get me wrong, I hope he will be a very good player and play at least 1 AFL game but to say he will be better than Davis is just insulting.

It's been known to happen. James Hird says hi

It's also a little far fetched considering how many posters are saying how amazing he looks just from a highlight video.

Just like the recruiters aren't going to say he's crap, they're not going to put a youtube video of him playing crap in every clip either.

Hell I can make myself look amazing with enough takes.... Sometimes.

We arent saying he will be as good as davis or Fletcher.
What we are saying is that there are similarities in terms of body shape/the way they cover the ground etc

True but looking at and analyzing the players within the draft is far more professional these days. Yes players do slip through the crack and I hope for obvious reasons Sam Siggins is one but the probability isn't great.

So we gave up our second choice for goodwill?

Let's hope he doesn't go on to have a glittering career.

Our actions in the past don't have me automatically thinking that we've pulled the right rein here with our pre-emptive punishment.

Obrien slipped alot.
His one of those guys who mit be a gun or mit not make it at all.
Crows seemed to rate him very highly.

I've seen people say he will be better than Davis. Also at the same stage of their careers he is better than Davis. Which is precisely why Davis went in the first round and Siggins went at #62.

As I said earlier, I hopehe is successful, but it's been a long off-season already and it's only November, no need to build the kid up the the extremes.

Those statements are just dumb.
He has such long legs looks a little unco similar to what Fletcher was like back in the day.

I agree they are dumb. I was more using the Fletcher to go on with going over the top. I realise he can have the same attributes, just some of the things I was reading were over the top.

As I said, I really hope he can become a player, but generally when drafted where he was, he'll have to work pretty hard for his opportunities.

Most players drafted outside top 10 wont make it.
So the likelihood is the players we just drafted wont make it.
Wait and see....

Wonder what we will look for in the rookie draft.
Maybe a ready made KPD?

I must admit being overseas for the past few years and only recently returning, any knowledge I have on potential draft players is all just from what I read from others, but I think it's certainly an area to beef up, similar to what we had prior to losing Bock, Davis, Tippett and to an extent Gunston. Talls are very hit and miss, so IMO it's always to have a few on the list and hope for one or two of the lesser likes to develop. But some in the state leagues are ready made players, and if there's one that's shown he has the ability, could only be a good thing.

I realise there was all of the off-field issues, but surely someone has to take a punt with Garlett? If his skills are as good as what some are saying, surely it's not that big a risk to try him as a rookie? Take the challenge on and try to show him how to be an AFL player, and if it doesn't work out you just lose a rookie, and if it does work out, well, who knows?

With what I heard from Ogilvy he very much sounded as if we'd of kept pick 20 and even had the choice between Kennedy and O'Brien he very much still would of taken O'Brien, obviously saw him as ultra talented and definitely had an air of disappointment seeing him still available at that pick.
