You can get all dramatic and say posters getting carried away but the simple fact is that for a pick 62 looks like might have skills and height we need for our back lines which is needed .
Surely with all crap us Crows supporters had dumped on us I think posters should be allowed to think positive about our very restricted late draft picks.

Look, I wish him the best and hope he turns in to a player for us, and sure lets get excited, but lets not get ahead of ourselves either. Everyone puts spin on their draft choices, but lets not let a highlight video do the talking and announce we have a superstar before he even gets to Adelaide.
Given the amount of rubbish that we've all had to endure since the Tippett debacle, it's probably to be expected that people are going to get a little excited about what is basically the first bit of positive draft related news. Hope he turns out great, but it'll be some time before we can make that call.

Remember reading about Siggins in one of the Pies board draft prediction threads. Had a trick shot compilation, Knightmare gave him a decent review, but the only thing I remember was the potential nickname discussion: "Siggins -> Biggins -> Bilbo Baggins -> Dildo," followed by a one liner about him replacing Brad Dick.

Welcome to the AFC Sam Siggins!

He won't be a Fletcher but I'd be happy if he was another Ken McGregor who played over 100 games and was our best defender at one stage (I know he was crap at the end) and pick 75ish.

Pre-draft, he was listed on SEN as the fifth best key defender available - but the second best 193cm+.
Ah ok, so I guess considering the club targeted KPDs and outside mids with a bit of class, it isn't beyond the realms of possibility we ranked him 9th in terms of our needs (knowing which players would most likely be gone well before our pick).

So we gave up our second choice for goodwill?

Let's hope he doesn't go on to have a glittering career.

Our actions in the past don't have me automatically thinking that we've pulled the right rein here with our pre-emptive punishment.

This certainly worries me, the AFL have a track record of responding to clubs that show strength and conviction, not to clubs who seek to suck up to them like we have here. They could very easily come back and say "well, we never said that giving up those picks would mean shit..." Quite frankly I'm not really sure whether I wouldn't have preferred us to grab everything we could for the time being and be better prepared to cop whatever the AFL throw at us. I suppose we'll find soon enough though.

And the disappointing/annoyance of Davis leaving had nothing to do with it?

Look, I hope your right as it will result in a bargain buy but he fell that low for a reason.
Referring to Kristof's post earlier, he was quite highly ranked in the key defensive stock rankings. I also heard a recruiter say last night that once you get into the 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds (3rd and 4th rounds to a larger degree), there really isn't much between the players, and most clubs pick on needs. We may have picked him up in the 30s if the club had a pick there, who knows.

I've seen people say he will be better than Davis. Also at the same stage of their careers he is better than Davis. Which is precisely why Davis went in the first round and Siggins went at #62.

As I said earlier, I hopehe is successful, but it's been a long off-season already and it's only November, no need to build the kid up the the extremes.
There is only one poster saying that, and he is from the same local club as the guy and has seen him play for a long time, of course he'll pump his tires up a bit.

I think it's more to do with the fact that this year Ogilvie and his team has done so much work of the draftees, that they can identify these potential hidden gems better, and so the club doesn't mind sacrificing the early choices. Our list is also in a very healthy shape atm anyway.

The depth of midfielders and talls in next years draft sounds very good, so I have no doubt Ogilvie will want every opportunity to draft as early as possible. I can't see us losing any more draft picks anyway, but if we were to, it wouldn't be beyond 2013 IMO.

Come on guys, better than Davis?

Let's hate the guy for leaving but can we please have some semblance of honest posting. Davis is a very good player and when the GWS get better, so will he. He had a poor season because the players around him had a poor season. When the young kids get better and allow th GWS to be a competitive unit, his skills and leadership will come to the surface.

Suggesting Sam Siggins is better and will be a better player in the long run, is very insulting to 17 other recruiters who passed him 80 times. Don't get me wrong, I hope he will be a very good player and play at least 1 AFL game but to say he will be better than Davis is just insulting.

Alex

Statistic show that AFL recruiters do often get it wrong, it would be interesting to look back at the last 10 years of first round picks (which should be the easy selections) and identify how many of these selections were delisted prior to playing 50 games, in contrast, how many AA selections have come from the rookie list, these players were totally over-looked....

Personally I just love watching those players develop from the back of the pack...........

It is not my think no more... I originated the like of posts around here (I think?), and now others can imitate!

I cannot like no more, so to see others liking stuff makes my liking past feel happy again!

May the Like button I once had Rest In Peace...

Why the hell not b?

Maybe I'm simply being a bit fastidious but I don't believe the recruiters get it wrong, I feel the some clubs have very poor player development and well fair programs in place and once the players are in the system, they lose focus, desire and want to be the best player they can be.

I also agree and love watching the 'Cinderella' story player coming through the system. The kid from the middle of no where that gets an opportunity when no one though he could. I enjoy watching that rise of a player.

I just don't think he will be a better player than Phil Davis.

Maybe, we will never know.

Good luck to the kid, I hope he makes it and plays some very good football.

Poor Bostrich Burger.

You're rather like a sex maniac without a penis now!! :(
Never thought of it like that, but it sounds like the most reasonable analogy to make... :D
Why the hell not b?
I'm sure I've explained it to you before MC, so stop baiting me brah! :D

I wonder if you were to go into rehab clinic for awhile whether they would give permission to push the like button BB. Just a idea
I've been to rehab since the ban! The walls are talking to me... I think a dosage of meds is coming up!

Course I'm gonna pump his tyres up. I'll check his oil too:D:thumbsu:

The kid had a very good u18 carnival. Can play. And is as good as Davis was at 18.

Wanna bag me. Go ahead. (Not you BACCS) See you in 3-4 years time. We'll discuss it then.:)

Somone posted that Sydney were interested in Sam they were not the only ones the Hawks were as well.

reminds me of dustin fletcher.
Dont buy into the 9th player on our list.
Going into trade we had 3 needs ruck, KPD and crunbing forward/outside mid. WE got graham in trade which meant we were always gonna get 1 outside midf and 1 KPD in this draft.
He was probably rated the 9th best player in terms of our needs and not the overall draft.
Happy to get him looks quality though.

David Noble on 5AA today said they rank about 30-40 players including all those who are going to go in the top 10 etc and who we won't get. Then said they had Siggins ranked in the top half of that group - so in the first 15-20 players in the draft overall. That's how much they rate him and why they were so quick to call his name when he was still there at 62.
