It’s hard to think we could have grabbed a star with pick 62 but when you look at Taylor Walker got selected at pick 75 then I feel more confident with Sam Siggins.
I’ve been looking into him and can’t figure out who he plays like. He doesn’t remind me at Davis as it’s been reported but almost like a Fletcher or a skinny Bock, Any thoughts?
Either way I got the feeling we found a future CHB star with this kid. Good Luck to Him
Mate Taylor Walker wasn't really taken at Pick 75 in the true sense. Kind of like saying we are so lucky to pick up Brad Crouch at pick 100 and low picks are great (if we had to formally upgrade him through the draft like Tex).

There would be about a 10% chance that either of the 2 players we drafted will play more than 20 games. Amazing how often players "slide" to us in the draft.
Agree with your first sentence. But how is this different to players sliding to every club's later draft picks?

I suspect the reality is that club recruiters are entirely serious when they claim a player has slid to their picks. I would hazard a guess that beyond a certain point, say pick 30 or 40, every club has a vastly different wish list.

If the Crows had every pick from 30 to 50, I'd put money on there still being a club who still had their 31st choice available at the end.

To be fair to Rendell, Neil ruined most of those players
For a while there I was a massive Neil fan, but after paying a bit more attention and seeing what was happening to some of the kids, Tex especially, I knew and hoped the Nutter would go.
One of the most refreshing changes that I can see about Sando is the way that he brings the group with him, not just lectures them. All sport is a mental game and Sando is toughening them mentally and Physically. Both the kids that we have recruited could do a bit, they both have upside, Atkins was made AIS and Siggins couuld crack 200cm, and we have a better development culture now than we had before. They will be better, we need them to be better.

Atkins more so. Noble said that you cant ignore talent, which i took to mean he was the most talented kid left but had been indeed been ignored = attitude problem. he slid for a reason and reading between the lines he is perceived as lazy, as opposed to garlett type issues.

Kpd different. Not unusual now to use lower pick and develop.

Garletts talent was ignored

Every club's ranking list is going to be very different. We obviously rated Sam Siggins quite highly, some other clubs might not even had him in their sights at all.

North picked up a guy called Mitchell Watkins, who played only 3-4 games for Norwood's reserves, with the majority of his year being spent with his school side! I'd say its likely no other club would have picked up this player, but North clearly were keen to select him.

This was a shock.

Have to admit this draft seemed to lack depth. Dont understand how it could go from a super draft to a crappy draft in the space of a year?

yes, amazing how Sando was able to develop the kids in one season

I had the day off and headed down to training to see our new recruits. Siggins is a bit of a beanpole at the moment but looked to have some nice skills, good height and was quite advanced aerobically compared to Rory Atkins who is definetly at least a year away and some others within his training group.

Siggins lead the group in the run comfortably.

Watching the interview, I'm kinda glad that we picked up that Atkins bloke. I think that his potential is huge. I know there have been some reservations about his work ethic at the AIS, but I think some times you need to remember that there kids, imagine if something you did at 15 ruined your career. It looks like he knows how lucky he is, lets hope it works out.

Interesting to read some posts from some Vic club boards on draft night. there is no question Atkins was expected to be called in the 30's . I know recruiters like to spin but little doubt this kid was a slider.

Seriously how skinny is Siggins legs .........certainly won't be able to hold himself up in a contest ATS

yep ....2-3 years min to build up

They would have consulted Poulos ........now there's a challenge

I was talking more about how the AFC were saying how incredibly lucky we were to be able to recruit these two kids. Sometimes you need to just forget the spin and keep your mouth shout.

Does anyone else get the impression Walker is the heart and soul of this club at the moment.
