Its a shame Pickett got six weeks, frankly I enjoyed seeing Monty smash Burton which should be worth a best on ground right there and definately worth a week. Begley is a pretty boy sook anyway and if he had half an ounce of skill he wouldve picked the ball up and been off. The only thing Picketts guilty of is underestimating how bad your skills actually are, just a shame Begley could still walk of the ground.

Your obviously just trolling as noone could be that delusional.

Byron hit for 6

Byron Pickett has been slapped with a 6 week suspension for his crude tackle on James Begley last Sunday Night.

The tribunal believed that Pickett had no eyes for the ball and was intent on making contact with Begley

"In handing down this penalty, we've taken into consideration the awkward situation of attacking the ball, but we as the tribunal believe that Byron had nothing other than intent to make contact with James Begley" said the new additon to the Tribunal system Peter Schwab.

"When the ball is in dispute, you must attack the ball, not the man. It's plainly obvious Byron was deliberately making contact intentionly".

In response to his suspension, Pickett said "I'm gutted, totally disappointed. To be suspended for 6 weeks so early is heartbreaking. I really can't believe I've been handed down 6 weeks for attacking the ball. Should I really be punished because I'm a tough footballer?"
Port Adelaide were reluctant to discuss whether they would appeal.

Got this off the main Board. If that is an accurate quote of Pickett's response, then I take back every thing that I have said about this incident so far.

No remorse, no regret. He thinks HE is the victim.

He has lost me forever if this is a genuine quote. He comes across as nothing but a lowdown petty thug.[/QUOTE]

God almighty as if the offence itself wasn't enough...I ask you where was the sincere apology, where was the hangdog look?...where was the interview expressing sincere regret? What did we get... a picture of him laughing while at the beach !
No attempt to try to control the agenda?
In the absence of an attempt to say sorry for any injury to Begley...one is left with no other conclusion that he meant to cause harm to the player.....which is exactly what the tribunal found...he did not regret it !!!
He's lucky they stopped at 6 games....

Not really, if Burton played for anyone else you'd like watching him get smashed too.

He didn't regret it because his tiny animal like brain doesn't compute that he did anything wrong! Much like that other meathead of their's, Peter Burgoyne. He thought he didn't do anything wrong either!

Peter Carey got 2 matches for attempting to strike during the 84 finals series. There are some that still say it cost the Bays the flag that year.

Those 'some' would be Graham Campbell and his immediate family.

Pigs bloody arse !!!

Super plays = a very likely win in the GF.

Like it did in 1974, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1982, 1987, 1988 ...

Hell, the Bays didn't even make the GF in 1984. So what relation are you to Graham Campbell? ;)

Get over it people. Byron has done the crime and now he will do the time.

Ruthlessness wins Premierships. Nothing should stand in the way. If there is a head over the ball - knock it clean off. Nobody remembers suspensions - but they sure remember who lifted the cup.

Except if they miss the GF through suspension. ;)

What a load of crap. If a player has his eyes on the ball but has zero peripheral vision and absolutely zero awareness around him then they should not be playing any sport except for maybe darts. All bar one of his bumps in a Port jumper the "victims" would have seen him coming as he came from either directly in front or diagonally from in front.

And if Pickett's peripheral vision was anywhere near as good as you expect Begley's to be, he would have realised that the ball had spilled from Begley's grasp, that Begley's body position WASN'T going to be vertical, that the intended contact was going to be problematic, and that he should adjust his actions.

Maybe Byron should stick to darts.

Incidentally, your vertical peripheral vision is significantly less (something like 60 degrees less in scope) than your horizontal vision. Given that Begley had his head down over the ball, the only way he could have seen Pickett coming at him was through his vertical peripheral vision. The fact that Pickett hit Begley from front on therefore gave Begley LESS chance to see him coming than if he came in from the side.

Begley would have known exactly where Pickett was and what he was doing. But footballers are encouraged and taught to keep their eye on the ball and not pull out of contests like that. And Begley did exactly what good players do and what players get praised for doing and now he supposedly lacks awareness? ......pffftttt. Next excuse.

Exactly.

To those pap supporters that are crying "not fair" well if you are honest with yourselves you will admit that Pickett's only purpose in this incident was to do as much damage to the body of Begley as he possibly could, not once did he change target in spite of the ball being some distance in front of Begley & he has now in my opinion received his just deserts.

Was it that many ?? jeez how time flies. :)

No relation & he use to drive me up the wall with his TAB commercials.

"But" with Carey playing the odds of us making & winning the GF would have been a lot shorter as super was in top form at the time.

They had to suspend someone cos they couldn't hang Alan Stringer for that cowardly biff to the back of the head and run off ... ;)

Now that Hardwick has gone and Pickett and Wilson are out for a few games who will act as Choccos snipers??
Well if were inclined to want to use those sort of sniping tactics (and I don't condone them) we might want to select Mark Bickley or Nigel Smart as they have both shown an aptitude for it. Of course they are not in our squad. One is now a "respected" media commentator and the other is looking to be the first former head hunter in the South Australian parliament!

Quiet frankly I enjoyed hearing that Monty got suspended; but it is good to see trolling alive and well; especially some one so gifted as yourself.

Stringer was a bloody angel compared to Bomber Clifford who made hits behind the head into a real art-form. ;)
