Credibility is on the line, and I'll personally break the legs of my assertive and certain source if this is wrong but King Ed has, as of Monday, done it.

Buckley to the Pies as assistant. Malthouse two year deal. Smooth transition in 2011-2012.

Let's see how it unfolds.

I'd love to believe you PieLebo, but i'll believe it when I see it.

In saying that this would be close to the ideal scenario for us.

I don't buy this "their egos are too big to work together" bulls!t people continue to peddle. When both Malthouse and Buckley both come out and publicly say that they have no reservations about working together I believe them. Not just because i'm taking their comments on face value but because they are both pragmatic and professional - despite what some people say.

I hope Buckley gets given a similar role to what was offered to Eade before he took the Doggies job. Where Buckley has the major say in the game day coaching. I think I still lean towards Buckley as our head coach next year but this would be almost as good.

Really hope we keep him at the club - whatever the capacity.

Not going to happen PieLebo, as much as i'd love it to pan out this way. If Bucks is going to stay in Vic next year, he will be a senior coach. I know that Mick has said that he would be 'ok' at Bucks as an assistant under him at Collingwood, however in reality he will not want this to happen, as he will be basically be waiting until bucks is ready (in one or two years time). Richmond can offer him a long term position, and he will take it. Thats just how i think it will pan out, I just can't see MM ending his coaching career, always looking over his sholder at the bloke he knows will be coach in 2011 or 2012. Because his senior coaching career will be finished, as there arent going to be nearly as many coaching positions in Melbourne in the next two years as there are this year up for grabs.

Thats just how i think it will happen.

Sounds good!:thumbsu:

I'm doubtful this would happen. 2 Alpha males like these blokes is like a pride of Lions..... and at some point either the leader gets killed off or the young stud wanders off to start his own pride.

I can't fathom that Malthouse would allow someone else (i.e the board aka Eddie) to pick his assistants let alone that, that assistant is waiting in the wings for him to be replaced if he were to stumble. I just can't see it. As senior coach you pick your team, the board doesn't. Bucks as a senior coach wouldn't want his team being picked now would he so rightfully so nor should MM.

The question is IF Bucks is to be assistant coach then what is that role? Mid-field coach would be obvious so does that mean Brad Scott gets the arse? Everyone is lovin' Brad's work and you wouldn't demote him or else he would piss off. Would Bucks then be opposition coach? So what about Blake then where does he go?

Although the suggestion of Bucks coaching the VFL side is outlandish it is possibly the best case scenario for all ..... that is for the club, Bucks and MM..... unfortunately not for Gavin Brown. If Bucks coached the VFL we'd get all the advantages of his skill, knowledge and presence .... he'd coach the up and coming talent for when he finally takes over as coach etc. but he still gets in involved with the seniors whilst still paying respect to MM by not directly stepping on his toes.

Personally I'm in the camp for MM to go but the reality is he might be around for 2 more years. Gavin Brown might wish to consider going for the 2 available senior coaching jobs?? .... I dunno? If he landed one then Bucks to coach the VFL side would be rippper in IMO.

If football is a business though and let's face it Eddie has directed the club down this path more times than not in recent years ..... and I'm not bagging Eddie as such because he's a bloody champion IMO ..... but if money (as in business sense) where to sway a direction on whether Bucks was to be be appointed senior coach (given that he's a good punt on for success too) then Buckley to Collingwood is 10 fold is to what Ben Cousins' revenue making was to Richmond maybe even more. Bucks back to Collingwood would mean more $$$ then even if Judd or Brown had come to Pieland too. Visions of Eddie naked rolling around in new memberships and sponsor deals would be flooding the internet .... and guess what? ... I think he'd even post them himself. :p

schweet as...I'd rather he took the VFL team than be an assistant.

Bucks to cut his teeth and mold the kids in VFL and take the top job knowing where the kids are at.

It would be the "perfect" training ground for Bucks.

On one hand he would have a coaching job where he has some power, and on the other hand he would still be able to be in the box with MM when his VFL commitments dont intersect, which would be most weeks.

Bucks could take the VFL side during their weekly training sessions, and could try out different game plans and strategies in the VFL.

Plus we know Bucks is great in youth development, and this is really the most important role of the VFL coach.

Hope it happens, and PL87 is a prophet.:thumbsu:

Just want you people to know I posted this before I'd even read that HS article, and I heard it before it was even posted up on the net.

Some sort of Performance Coach who will assist the juniors as well as travel to big sporting clubs all over the world, with the aim of improving the Collingwood Football Club.

Yeah, you get the feeling Eddie will make sure Buckley is 100% ready to succeed MM when that time comes.

Bucks will most likely spend time in the US before we arrive there next year, as well as spending more time at the AIS and various other sporting institutions over the next few years.

Plus Bucks brings an insight into a lot of the under aged players who will be off draft age in a year or 2 through his Vic Country coaching and AIS work.

To put it simply though, Eddie wanted Bucks, so we got Bucks.:thumbsu:

Kudos to you Pielebo for tipping this.

I agree with you that the club probably look to fund his travels overseas or wherever to extend his knowledge of coaching and people management to give him the best grounding for when he takes over in 2012.
