I wanted to love TR but I just couldn't get used to their assault rifles - the spray and low damage per hit - ugh... I just couldn't take it any more. So I switched to NC and have already noticed a solid improvement. Now I'm a noob to PS2 so I'm not going to cry imbalance, but how are TR expected to put up with their assault rifles which seem to be attuned to close quarter combat when the majority of the battles take place in vast outside environments?

NC recoil is horrendous, though I've only played as HA. TR absolutely destroy me in bases due to not being able to miss. My recoil in close range using ADS ****s me over all the time, hip firing is all a matter of luck. I'm about to buy a forward grip so hopefully it will improve.

Overall, TR are considered to have the best DPS weapons and NC the worst.

Servers were down again temporarily tonight. More hotfixes and patches have been applied yet I'm still getting some pretty bad lag at times and even some freezing in the loading screens.

Besides the server side issues though, I really have no idea why more people aren't freakin' loving this game as much as I am. 12 man squads, 48 man platoons, 2000 player servers and it's all for free FFS! The only thing I'm missing is a good squad/platoon to team up with - I'm literally that close to calling it the best game I've ever played, no shit.

Thinking I'll have to find some crappy clan to join soon if no one else is playing...

A few comments I've found;

"PlanetSide 2 > Battlefield!!!"

"this is the freshest game for a pc gamer in the last 10 years it gave me feeling i got the first time i played bf1942."

"long story short. this game is ****ing rad."

"im a cod fanboy but even i can say that its better than cod"

"Its like battlefied 3 and halo had a huge baby and then fed it steroids for the first 20 years of its life..."

Get the **** on it!

More doesn't equate to better. When I was playing, there were barely any players at the zone I was trying to capture (and I was struggling to figure out how to capture it due to the lack of tutorials). Besides, even if/when the battles are huge, I think it suffers the same fate as Resistance 2, in that it's way too chaotic.

[edit] Just gave it another session and did well, netting a whopping 5 kills, 1 death and at least 5 captures. Still only about 6-10 people on the zone though and it gets a bit tiresome as every time I capture a point, another one gets captured, and it just keeps repeating.

Couple of things...

1. At the moment, I've noticed that playing during prime time (6pm-10pm, especially on the weekend) nets the best results in regards to player numbers. I've also noticed that at the moment, it seems to be that only 2 of the 3 continents are populated heavily at one time - normally Esamir and one of the others. No use being on the isolated continent, and no use straying away from your squad/platoon.

2. Before you push the big green "PLAY" button to get into the game, one of the 3 adverts that scrolls across the screen asks if you'd like to watch some tutorial videos to get you started. They are very helpful.

For mine, it's all about finding a squad/platoon that's half decent, uses mics, and actually places waypoints/objective markers. Find that, and your in for one hell of a time.

I'll be playing again in a couple of days once I'm over this flu/infected ear that means I can't hear shit and communicate.

Seeing as though not many people are playing from BF, I'll prob ditch the outfit so you guys aren't being held back by just being in it and can join up with a proper crew.

Oh man was that epic!

4 hours of non-stop massive war with god knows how many troops, tanks and aircraft. Like I said before, join a good squad/platoon, listen to them and follow their objectives and you should have a ****in blast ("Revolt" and to a lesser extent "TAW" platoons for the Vanu seem to be great at teamwork and sticking together).

Just the feel of rolling up to an enemy base with 40 or 50 tanks at your side, countless dogfights lighting up the night sky above you as you blast your way toward the base and then move in further on foot with what seems like hundreds of teammates to capture and destroy key enemy outposts, all the while dodging a vast array of enemy bullets, grenades and rockets while simultaneously trying to take out enemies yourself, engineers and medics racing around you trying to keep the armored convoy in play and reviving fallen comrades at your feet... it really can not be explained until you've tried it for yourself.

Will be on again tonight if anyone's keen. Steam name is kornage_1 and game name is KoRnage

GiantBomb Quick Look for this game.

And FGMPR I can definitely see where you're going with Sony potentially making this a starting game for the PS4.

I get a huge Dust 514 vibe from what I've seen, and while obviously that game isn't the best and is far lower scale. What an upscaled, good feeling and bigger game on the whole would provide could be amazing.

Wouldn't be surprised if Sony were testing the F2PMMO waters with Dust on console and will launch with this next year on the PS4. Could even potentially see cross-play with the PC version and KB/M support too.

The only real issue is that the game is persistent and as Jeff mentions in that Quick Look it means that you can work so hard for hours to lead an attack against the enemy, take a shitload of territories, log off and then by the time you log on hours later it can all have been for nothing.

Is there any actual 'win' or end game?

Well for starters, I reckon BLOPS2 could run on high settings on a ****ing Apple PC from 1999.

As for BF3 or PS2, I have absolutely no worries playing either on the highest settings with my i5-3450, 3.5 GHz, 8gb, Radeon HD 7900 series PC. 28fps is about the lowest I get on either game, and that's only rarely when the action gets extremely full on in the area I'm at.

Indeed, that's crazy. Planetside 2 is pushing thousands of players on maps probably hundreds the size of your average CoD map, with aircraft, tanks, explosions all going on around you, all whilst being one of the best looking games on the market. It's a beast of a game and requires a beast of a rig to run maxed out right now, where as CoD is running off a 7 year old engine that is based off an engine that is going on 14 years old now.

Games have to advance sometime, and that requires newer hardware, whether that be an upgraded rig or a new console. I'm more than happy to see games like this push PC hardware to the limit, even if I have to play on lower settings for a while.

Nope, and that's a little disappointing, I must admit. The perfect end game would seem to be when one of the three factions had taken control of all 3 continents....not sure why that isn't the case.

As for logging off and potentially losing a lot of territory you've spent hours capping - I just see that as a win-win for the brains behind the game in making people not want to stop playing the game, or when they do, immediately wanting to resume playing so as not to lose too much territory.

It may not be ideal for all, but it's the same as DayZ (among other titles) in that once you place your tent and put your weapons in it, or hide a car/truck/bus you spent hours searching for, you risk losing it to other players while your logged off. To me though, that just made me want to not stop playing the game or made me want to get straight back on it when I did stop playing. May not be good for my health or social life, but that's not what these companies have in mind I'm afraid ;)

No, and this is what bothers me. The Game boasts epic, huge scale battles, but when I was playing, it felt like playing a dumbed down game of Domination that never ends on one zone.

Nope, I don't believe I can run it.

Have seen plenty of it in action though.

It's really fun, played it with a few of the BigFooty boys running around in a squad of 100 taking down one objective. Hoping that the servers stay full for many years, it's worth it.
