we don't have enough injuries to fit him in, who would he come in ahead of ?

Tom Bellchambers, Scott Gumbleton, Leroy Jetta, Nick O'Brien, Stewart Crameri, Tayte Pears, Jake Melksham, Alex Browne, Ariel Steinberg, Luke Davis, Travis Colyer, Kyle Hardingham, Hal Hunter, Lauchlan Dalgleish and Cory Dell'Olio. Although many of those won't get interest

Surely not?

Probably doesn't help that his position in juniors was that hit up forward but was thrown in the deep end and is being asked to play primarily as a midfielder at VFL level without much sustained success.

That is my main gripe with the AFL > VFL competitions. Players fill one position at VFL level but are hardly up to/given that same role at AFL level (see Leroy Jetta, see Elliot Kavanagh).

Over time we will see our 3rd - 5th year players dominating instead of asking our 1st & 2nd year players to do this.
Would help topping up with some gun VFL players to, Matthew Bate and Ben Duscher have done two thirds of SFA this season.

Its hard to step straight into AFL as a midfielder, thats well known and pretty common sense i wouldve thought.

It takes time, several years. No one has really done it from the get go and hes not outstanding top 10 pick.

I mean look at the troubles even guys like Martin, Scully, Trengove have had with it.

Joel Selwood and Jaegar Omeara (even him to a degree) have done it from off the top of my head and the first was catered by several stars at their absolute prime.

He was like a 9th Mid fielder when he was playing in the A.F.L, given the fact he was given a two year contract i think they are thinking that he can become a good mid/forward in the long run. From watching a couple of VFL games this year, you can see he has a lot of potential being a mid fielder.

Yoda is right.

I remember Reimers almost exclusively played midfield in the VFL, but played as a half forward in the AFL.

I don't understand the reasoning.

No, I don't. I can see, from a list management perspective, that Pears is a good chance of going. And good work, bringing up a skinny 18 year old 1st year KPP compared to a guy who's entering his prime . You just can't accept that one of your favourites is a chance of not being at the club at the end of the year. Do I want Pears to succeed and stay at the club? Of course I do. Can I see it happening? Yes. Do I think it will happen? On current output, no
He's not one of my favourites at all, just way to good to consider delisting, there are 10 other clubs wgho could find a spot for him instantly, hence why he will not be delisted, he will be kept or traded...Mentioning Gregory was just a way of making you realize how absurd the thought of delisting Pears is....He has value on the trade table, but I would keep him as Fletch will go one day soon...P.S having rose coloured glasses doesn't mean you can't see, it's more you can only see one side of the story, your side..

Because all talented AFL level defenders get picked up. I'm being realistic, he is a chance of not being on Essendon's list next year. He's also a chance of still being on it, but you're acting as though Tayte is guaranteed a spot at Essendon from 2014 onwards. Pears hasn't delivered on his talent, and unpopular as it may seem, he's not guaranteed to be at Essendon next year for 2 reasons:

1. He hasn't been getting games this year and is unlikely to continue to get games if everybody is fit, ergo he may want to leave for better opportunities at somewhere like the Saints or the Blues or Eagles
2. Essendon can get value from him due to being a talented KPP to fix an area where they struggle with (another line-breaking mid if the BigFooty experts are to be believed, or a lead-up medium forward)

eth-dog it can be like talking to a brick wall around here, but longdaveyjetta you have to see his point?

We can all see Pears is talented but his injury issues have really set him back. Eth does have a point though, Pears has been relatively injury free these past 18 months (16/22 games at any level in 2012, 11/13 games at any level in 2013) and he has not been the same since that breakout 2009 (?).

You don't give away talented KPP's, but you don't keep guys that are simply not up to it.

Can you to please stop arguing though? it's kinda clogging up the feed

One issue that Pears faces is that when Fletcher retires, Hurley is likely to take on a full-time position in the back six. Pears spot in the team is then reliant on injuries or Carlisle moving forward on a permanent basis. Of course either of those two things could happen but it seems Pears playing future at Essendon is a little out of his hands.

I might go into a bit of detail into that list ant555 supplied that I pretty much agreed with.

Of the guys I would be delisting:

David Hille: (retired)
We all pretty much know this'll be his last season after being coaxed into playing on in 2013.

Nathan Lovett - Murray: (retired)
Will most likely retire at years end somewhat prematurely at 31 (november). After 143 games (so far, thanks footywire) he has been a real servant for us and a real leader in some troubling times both on field through the mid noughties and off it during this drug saga. The ultimate sub, be nice if he could play on, but his spot in the seniors would only be sporadic at best and he would want to leave graciously and retire.

Luke Davis: (delisted)
Somewhat the forgotten man on here. Was picked up on the back of his no frills Corey Enright - like style of play, unassuming, role player, but sadly he never quite reached those capabilites with Bendigo last year and was tried as a tagger with some fleeting success. A lower leg injury curtailed his year that was promising so much as that tagger but has since never been able to recapture that form.

Nick O'Brien: (delisted)
"Dat motor" you say? you kinda need to play football to. Was drafted as a forward in his junior days, hoping to play that Ryan O'Keefe role but he hasn't really developed as we would have liked. Was asked to play as a midfielder in a very young, under developed side last year and again this year despite it not being his calling as an AFL player. Never the big flashy type like Jetta or Trav Colyer but more a quiet unassuming role. I would plead and beg with the VFL Bombers to allow him to play as a medium marking forward, using his 16+ motor to full advantage. Sadly, he has been hung out to dry with the other young'uns re - signing and he may only have a handful of matches to prove the TRB to offer him another contract.

Travis Colyer: (delisted)
He has all the tools bar one crucial one to make it as an AFL player. Pace to burn, takes the game on, kicks goals but as we all know, his kicking needs some attention. Will that be the end for Trav? I hope not. He is one AFL ready speedster we have on our list and on that reason alone, I would keep him but it would not be entirely surprising to see him delisted come years end.

Kyle Hardingham: (trade bait)
I'm going to go on record right now and say that I'd like to keep him but other clubs would surely be lining up for his services. Too good for VFL and is a solid AFL player. What do we want should he go?

Tayte Pears: (trade bait)
I wouldn't like to trade him but I can see him leaving for more opportunities. A solid depth player who has gone backwards since that breakout 2009 but someone who with a bit of added confidence could be a useful player.

Scott Gumbleton: (tradebait)
Going to start this by saying I WOULD NOT trade Gumbleton, but if someone came knocking with a first/second round pick then I would look at the options and the flow on effect to the list etc. Joe isn't quite ready, and only Carlisle as a true forward on the list leaves Gumby as depth.

Just some points for people to dwell over

Ultimately it's the same with Pears wouldn't you say.

IF fletcher doesn't retire I can't see either Hurley or Pears playing back with Carlisle/hooker/fletcher as that's to tall.

IF Fletcher does retire at the end of the season the spot opens up for Pears.

IF fletcher does retire and Hurley moves back maybe Carlisle goes forward.

IF fletcher retires and hurley moves down back with Carlisle and hooker (my preferred option) Pears still has 3 spots to fight for and Hurley isn't Mr Durable.

With TBC he is fighting for one spot only and besides last year Ryder has an amazing track record without injuries.

At the end of the day essendon has so many possibilities to findthe right combo. Which makes the tall talk very interesting.

I'll ask everyone this question. Since west coast has the best ruck/forward duo in the league once Cox retires do you think the Eagles will play another ruckman? I personally doubt it, the reason Cox is still playing he has been clearly the best ruck over the past decade and possibly to ever play the game.

Didnt Hal say on the Hangar that he was being tried as a forward? Makes sense as our midfield and backline is almost impossible to break into and the only spots up for grabs would be defensive forward or small forward.. any VFL watchers can attest to his supposed new role? Give him a crack at the "Kommer" role..? o_O

Also heard from a friend who claims she knows the Jetta family over in Perth well say that Leroy might want to move back to WA with his family and of course more senior opportunities.
I argued that he's been over east for a while now and should have adjusted well by now and has best mates at the club but my friend was quite adamant. Im taking her word with a massive pinch of salt as should you guys.. but is there some truth do you think?
If he keeps racking it up in the VFL and still not getting games he just might?

He won't get guaranteed a game at West Coast or Fremantle.

Kakkle has summed up the Jetta situation.

He needs to look at other clubs - Other clubs will be interested.

Could see the WC being interested in Pears, with Glass likely to retire and M.Brown likely to move back to Melbourne.

With T-Bell/Pears/Gumbleton being discussed for trade - not forgetting the retirement of Hille - We need to keep at least two of the aforementioned players.

TBC should be listed under trade bait if your listing Pears because of "more opportunities elsewhere"

The thing is we don't want to trade TBC, it's his choice if he wants to leave.

Daz summed up thought on Bellchambers

Pears has been given every opportunity to lock in the post - Fletcher role but hasn't made it his own.

With West Coast, they have a youngish 21 y.o Scott Lycett whom they are trying to make more versatile in the WAFL with some success. They have already debuted their stop gap option Callum Sinclair in the early parts of the year and he was ok without being spectacular. So I guess WCE will be fine post Cox retiring.
