Yarran is shit. He's soft, runs one way, and is the most overrated player in the AFL. He chokes under pressure, squibs a lot of contests and I would prefer Davey because Davey works harder defensively and kicks as many goals/game as Yarran. There's only one thing I would trust Yarran to do when we're 5 points down with not long remaining in the Grand Final, and that's run fast. I can't see him applying pressure to keep the ball inside 50 or him delivering it down forwards throat on the flank to win us the big one.

Gibbs is soft. When it's his turn to go, he squibs it and lets the opposition get the ball. Does he have good skills? Yes. But I would prefer someone who will go when it's there to be won for us, and I have no doubt that everybody on our list would do that, except maybe Jetta. I don't have confidence that Gibbs would do that.

maybe the 2nd most overrated! still miles behind capt nick at collingwood

I disagree. Maxwell is bloody underrated here. You could tell they really needed him ANZAC Day and whenever he's missing

the thing that taught me Collingwood are struggling this year is the amount of play Nick Maxwell is setting up from defence this year.

End of 2013: trade Hooker, Crameri and Bellchambers to GWS for pick #1 and get T.Boyd. Also draft J.Billings, D.Garlett, D.Cameron, W.Rioli, A.Heppell, J.Neagle and J.Clothier

End of 2014 and beyond: Potentially pick up J.Long, N.Neagle, T.Wallis, T.Van Der Haar, M.Thorp and J.Toy (these are subject to better draft options being available for their playing roles).

You then end up with the following squad (as compared to the current squad on the left hand side).

CURRENT SENIOR --------------------------> 2015 and beyond SENIOR

FF: T.Bellchambers S.Crameri A.Davey ------> J.Daniher T.Boyd J.Billings
HF: J.Winderlich M.Hurley N.Kommer --------> J.Winderlich S.Gumbleton D.Garlett

Lol at Stanton and Howlett in reserves

Who do they play ahead of at that time? The case could be made for them ahead of Kavanagh and Rioli, but I would like to think that Kavanagh has gone passed them by that stage and Rioli offers something different as the sub / forward of centre.

Of course, over an AFL season form and injury dictate the starting 22 so having players like Stanton and Howlett as top 24 players is a terrific position.

"Hooker, Crameri and Bellchambers to GWS for pick #1 and get T.Boyd."

No thanks, when was the last time a number 1 pick actually lived up to their hype? Giving up way too much for an unknown.

I used to think trading Hooker would be a good move but he is clearly the best at his role at the club and he plays a different role to what Hurley would do, so the two are not really interchangeable.

Still wouldn't trade any of our best 25 unless they wanted to leave. Getting a 2nd round pick for someone like Hardingham or Jetta who can't get games would be a bonus.

don't even know where to start with this one...
why would we trade a few of our surplus talls only to draft another tall? surely it would make more sense to take a midfield...and there is no way known that Billings will slip to our next pick!

Stanton is our second best midfilder easily, dont know how in the world you have people who we havent even drafted like Rioli in the side ahead of him.

True, but the Daniher / Boyd combination = 10 years of KPF dominance. Not many sides have had that kind of combo in recent times (Buddy and Roughy excluded)

I would argue that the 'intercept marking role' is a byproduct of defensive structure / game style. When Bomber Thompson was at Geelong, their intercept marks were through the roof, and since he's come to Essendon, so are ours, and in particular, Hooker's.

With Hurley, Carlisle, Pears and Hibberd 'good marks' in the back 6, I think the 'Hooker role' is covered through defensive structure. This backline, when adding Dempsey and Ashby, has better run, disposal, and 1v1 capability. Hooker's loss is adequately covered, especially considering it helps bring Tom Boyd to the club.

1) because our surplus talls are exactly thay - surplus. Boyd is not. He is genuine A grade. Therefore losing some 'surplus talls' to get him is a massive win. Our midfield looks reasonable, especially when kicking to the Boyd / Daniher combo.

2) Billings I feel is the slider as he is a genuine small forward. Doesn't seem to have the ability to become a genuine midfielder. The last top 10 small forward ... C.Yarran. Clubs will no go too early on Billings, which is great for us.

3) Stanton isn't a better midfielder than any of Watson, Goddard, Heppell, Hocking, Zaharakis or Winderlich. His disposal is ordinary, his decision making worse and his contested ball average. He is a gut runner that doesn't overly hurt opposition sides and can't handle the tag. Kavanagh, Garlett, Myers and Melksham all go past him in the next 2 years.

4) Rioli, Garlett, Billings, Boyd and Ashby are all in the side for their respective roles. Stanton cannot fill any of those roles, and so he is the starting centre in the reserves.

I'd like Cooney if he was prepared to forgo dollars and chase a flag, Lake style. Knee a worry, but like Burgoyne, would add class and perhaps be the final piece.

my favourite part is where we draft 8 father son's over the next 2 years

As I stated, those are subject to better players being available. F/S is one of very few drafting advantages a side can get in the draft in such an equal competition, and one where we are not finishing down the ladder any time soon.

As I said, if these F/S's don't turn out, you draft the better player obviously.

Going to be blunt but anyone willing to trade Bellchambers and Hooker has lost a number of brain cells if indeed they had them in the first place.
Apologies in advance to anyone offended.

West coast are after tayte pears and are pretty confident in getting him. I personally rate him and think he could add a lot as a third tall running defender. What do west coast have that we would want? And to persuade tayte to stay do we need to push fletch into retirement at the end of this season?
