So who plays fwd then? Gumby and the resting ruck plus JD? That's a big gamble. Not that Hurley isn't a gamble up fwd with his injures as well. Fact is, no fwd line will look crash hot next year. Until Chappy turns up that is ;)

I don't want Gumby to leave but he should given how he was handled this season.

My preference? Gumby and Daniher keys, Winders/Chapman/Kommer plus a resting ruck and midfielder moving through.

haha, what? still dont know if your being sarcastic

He's not wrong.

Think of our KPFs, and Gumby is really all we have at the moment in terms of a pure forward, perhaps save for Daniher.

Remember, Hurley was drafted as a full back.

Connors said out-of-contract Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton would leave the Bombers “with their blessing” as Fremantle lead the chase to sign the 25-year old.
Essendon is trying to secure Fremantle’s second round pick (33) for the oft-injured big man.
“It’s not a given at all. I would have thought that pick 33 is a bit generous. Scotty is much loved at that club.
“He stayed last year knocking back a three year deal with the Dogs and Essendon really wanted him to stay and it didn’t work out. I would have thought he goes with their blessing,” Connors said.

Connors suggested the stalemate between Essendon and Western Bulldogs over the trade of Stewart Cramerito Whitten Oval would be resolved.
With the Bombers and the Bulldogs are still haggling over what the versatile forward is worth.
“I think there is dialogue between (Essendon list manager) Adrian Dodoro and (Bulldogs list manager) Jason McCartney and that’s the positive thing.
“There’s respect from both sides in terms of what both parties are seeking. It’s an opinion based game of what someone is worth. In Essendon’s opinion he’s worth more than pick 22 and I respect that and I respect the Dogs for their views as well,” he said.

You heard wrong, it was..
Crameri to bulldogs
Pick 22 to Adelaide
Myers and Vince to Melbourne
Pick 2 to essendon

It may well be making the best of a bad situation but I find it staggering that anyone would consider this a victory to Essendon. We'd have lost two best 22 players for who, in many ways, the sky's the limit, as far as their output in what should be something closer to a well oiled machine is concerned.

**** draft picks.

**** draft picks.

Yeah I'm in the minority but I believe draft picks are MASSIVELY over rated.

Do your homework appropriately and take two or three quality kids when you can in the draft, and trade the rest for known quantities (yes even Heath Shaw Benny).

Especially know when we need to refine a list, not build one.

carlisle out of the side? ok. we didnt trade him to GWS for pick #1 for a reason.

I never suggested Carlisle out of the side (you might wanna re-read). Was Pears I suggested we could trade/dump.

We have to accept that crameri is gone so would u prefer
Crameri for pick 22 or
Crameri and Myers for James aish??

I tend to concur with "**** draft picks" but that would put us in a stupidly good position to get Shaw and (not or) Adams.

the former.

Jarrod Grant has apparently agreed to head north to Brisbane.

Not directly related to us, but it's a rich tapestry, dogs may have another piece to give us now

"My preference is to play Daniher and Gumbleton together, Hurley back with Carlisle and Pears out of the side.

Gumby is still the best natural forward on our list. Madness to let him go IMO"

Oh.. you might want to use some more punctuation then

Yeah my bad on the punctuation there. The intent was to suggest Hurley WITH Carlisle in the backline, and Pears out.

Sure, and on those several occasions we have a player in the VFL and pick our team accordingly. Fletch wouldn't play more than 15 games (IMO), and I'd love the ability to manage our side leading into September by selectively resting/rotating our backs.

Plus the highly flexible option of leaving Daniher or Gumbleton out and laying Carlisle or Hurley forward.

I'm not sure why people feel that we should only hold on to those players that are locks every week. We need some depth. I say trade Pears, not Gumbleton (where we have little to no depth), and manage our side.
I've got a sneaking suspicion that they are planning to play Carlisle CHF next year. I've been opposed to that option in the past, preferring Gumby in that spot, but it appears that they really don't rate the guy. We all want Carlisle back, but it has to be said that the thing shits me most of all is Hurley playing forward. You'd have to suspect that Carlisle could kick 50 on cruise control. From what i've seen so far, he may not genuinely dominate, but with those hands there is no way that he is not going to have a day out pretty frequently. That way we can continue to do the switch on occasion as well.
At the end of the day the sentiment from TRB is pretty clear. They don't see the potential in Gumby that i thought was there. Very sad.

Would people prefer Vince at 28 years old or pick 33 from freo?

Remember Freo have also offered pick 33 for Yeo from Brisbane they would be asking which one of the targets they prefer right now.

It seems unlikely we will get Vince or Montagna. Have we secured Chapman yet?

No way do i want to be trading Crameri to adelaide for Vince - huge loss for us.

Why thank you, question though - how much do you think I care about what your opinion of me is?

Gumbleton has one of the highest goal/game ratio's on our list, this despite being played in the wet far too often.

He's one of the best contested marks we have and he has an exceptional endurance base for a key forward.

Couldn't care less if you disagree, Ben the Gooner does and we get along just fine.

Word of advice though, if you intend to hang around these parts I'd strongly suggest you refrain from telling people they know 'sweet f/a' - makes you look like a whiny child and honestly you won't last very long here.

This is a big worry considering AFL is mostly played in the winter months :p

Or people could slow down, take a breathe, read abit slower & it all falls into place.... :D

Either way you look at it Jade's post could be interpreted rightly or wrongly!

But it's always funny how people always go the negative way instead of positive!!

Maybe the person reading it could've said yeah sorry I mis-read it, but highly unlikely because then they'd have to take the blame! I read the post & it made perfect sense to me, never for a second did I think Jade wanted Carlisle out of the side!! That's just common sense.... :thumbsu:

It was read the way it was typed out. Reading it slower or faster wont make any difference.

That Hurley and Carlisle are both swingmen is where the similarities end.

Hurley is a much better match up for leading forwards than Carlisle is. As good as Hurley is body on body, Carlisle is even better standing toe to toe with giants and beating them.

As KPDs they compliment each other beautifully (especially when they are getting support from Hooker).

That we are going down the path we are going down suggests that we have much more faith in Pears than his form suggests is warranted or Gregory is much closer to being a viable option than we realise (and Fletcher is the stop gap that for the 12 months Gregory needs).

I never said they were similar. While in theory Carlilse is better at out bodying opponents due to his size is it really true in practice? Hurley has shown he can play on and beat the likes of Cloke and Tippett so I have no problems with him standing those types of forwards.

RE: Gumbleton, I don't think he'll be best 22.

You've got to weigh up Gumbleton vs Pears/Fletcher in who can offer more to the side.

In my opinion, Pears/Fletcher do, with Hurls and Joe up front.

That said, I hope we keep Gumby for depth.
