1. Majak Daw. 18 games, 10.4. One of the season's success stories. Wasn't in best 22 at the start but well in at the end. Last six weeks especially good. Showed more confidence when played forward as well.Intercept marking & ball use a feature. Saved his career. 9/10.

2. Marley Williams. 22 games, 1.1. Not as dynamic as last year but did the job on small forwards that he was recruited for. Disposal was solid (78.0 De per cent). Finished the season really well. 6/10.

3. Jed Anderson. 21 games, 7.8.Averaged nearly 20 possies a game. Now need some to improve DE - went at 48.4 per cent for kicking. Allowed JZ to play forward. Hard at it, consistent & occasionally inspirational with his attack on the ball. Saved his career. 9/10.

4. Shaun Higgins. 20 games, 14.16. A star & might win the Syd. A better year than last year & our classiest ball user. Set shots his biggest weakness. Averaged 27 possies at 70.9 Per cent DE. Continually targeted by Taggers he was the player who was the victim in MRO offences more than any other. 9/10.

5. Ben Jacobs. 13 games, 5.1. A key player who was missed in the second half of the season. Was a reason why our pressure acts dropped off. After last year any games were a bonus. Took down a number of star players & averaged 19.1 possies himself. Clear best 22 player. 6/10.

6. Taylor Garner. 0 games. Such a disappointment. Just couldn't get over the soft tissue injuries & couldn't string together any VFL games. His career is in the balance. At his best us best 22. 0/10.

7. Jack Ziebell. 22 games, 35.29. Was an All-Aust CHF at U18s & HF with the occasional run on the ball is his best spot. Should have kicked 45-50 goals as he missed some easy ones. Great one-on-one & a good foil for Browny. Averaged 325 m gained. Scored in 21 games, 5 bags of. 3 1 one of 5. Got better as the season went on. Still hard at it. 8/10.

8. Nathan Hrovat. 12 games, 7.3. Dropped twice & this is a good indication of his year. Averaged only 12 possies at 68.6 DE. Too many meh games, & rarely hurt sides. Is neither a forward or on-baller. Pretty disappointing after playing all games last year & didn't step up. 3/10.

9. Luke Davies-Uniacke.7 games, 1.1. Had second best DE of our mids. The hardest gig in footy is playing as an inside mid as an 18 year old. Can't be compared to other draftees who had easier roles. Showed lots of class with ball in hand & will only get better. More depth in the midfield will help enormously. 5/10.

10. Ben Cunnington. 22 games, 10.2. A gun. His best & most consistent year. Averaged 25.4 possies with 60 per cent of them contested. Starting to get the recognition he deserves. Also averaged 6 clearances & 5 tackles per games. As good a inside mid as there is in the game. Also good overhead & set shot. /10.

Cunners 9/10

11. Luke McDonald 22 games, 4.8. Played every game but must have been close to being dropped a few times. Possession rate down on 2017 with the worst De & kicking efficiency of our defenders. Tries to kick it too hard at times & lack of pace caught him out. 4/10.

12. Jy Simpkin. 22 games, 12.7. Coming along nicely. More time in the midfield & possession rate up. Good evasion skills & ball use. Clearly best 22 as a HF/Mid. Should only get better. 6/10.

13. Ryan Clarke. 19 games, 2.3. Runs all day & can find the footy but 64 per cent kicking efficiency indicates his main problem. Played wing & back to utilise his run but must improve kicking if he is to go to the next level. Needs to work his best position. 5/10.

14. Trent Dumont. 22 games, 6.10. Averaged 20.8 possies in his best ever season. Finished the season off well with big possie games. Wing seems a natural fit & played a more outside role. 7/10.

15. Paul Ahern. 11 games, 3.3. Smart draft selection. Rewarded the club's patience. Inconsistent but that is to be expected. Second highest av metres gained of our mids. Will only get better. Had a couple of blinders which indicated his ability. 8/10.

16. Scott Thompson. 22 games. 0.0. Back to his best, especially early in the season. Used on variety of opponents. Played loose man role well & worked well with other defender.s. Tapered off towards the end of the season. Good balance of defending & rebounding. 8/10.

17. Mitchell Hibberd. 0 games. Got injured in the VFL just when pushing for selection. Can't get a free run at it. Lucky to stay on the list. Where's his best spot? 3/10.

You know, sometimes it's good for posters to contribute to other discussions too and not just spew out their own stream of consciousness.

Anyway play on.

18. Shaun Atley. 22 games, 15.14. (5th in goalkicking). Highest DE. & kicking efficiency of our forwards. Only a reasonable year. Has not & probably won't now take the next step. Flits in & out & doesn't take a game or even a 1/4 by the scruff of the neck. Just doesn't seem to have a higher gear. 5/10.

19. Sam Wright. 16 games, 2.0. Good to have him back. Averaged 16.8 possies, 3/4 uncontested. Solid, rather than spectacular, just did his job each week. Kicking on both sides still good. 6/10.

20. Nick Larkey. 0 games. Doing everything he can in the VFL to impress especially for a late draft pick. Needs to get stronger but seems a natural footballer. 6/10.

21. Alex Morgan. 2 games, 0 goals. Averaged 12.5 possies at 91.7 per cent DE & 100 per cent kicking efficiency. 87.5 per cent were uncontested. Did well to get a game & the stats indicate he did well in the them. Good speed but needs to get involved more. 6/10.

22. Todd Goldstein. 22 games, 12.5. Not at his absolute best but a lot better than 2016 & 17. Averaged 36 hit outs & 14.3 possies. Got better the longer the season went & rucked the vast majority in all games. Got towelled up by Gawn but not many others. 7.5/10.

Why do people think Hibberd is lucky to be on the list?? He is one of the only players in the VFL who can rack up
big numbers and you need players who can find the ball. The big weakness on our list atm is that we have to many 10-15 disposal players.

23. Ben McKay. 0 games. Banged the door down in the VFL with consistent Hugh quality defensive games. Emergency for seniors 11 times. Can't do much more to get a spot. Maybe a forward spot opening up for him. 6/10.

24. Sam Durdin. 1 game, 0 goals. Emergency twice. A really good VFL season until the broken leg. Did nothing wrong in the game he played. Can't do much more to get a regular senior gig. 5/10.

25. Robbie Tarrant. 21 games, 1.1. 16.1 possies per game & headed our rebound 50s. Not quite As good as last year but might have been carrying a niggle towards the end of the season. A defensive leader. 8/10.

26. Daniel Neilson. 0 games. Not names as an emergency. Didn't get close to a senior game. Missed a few with injury again and was solid in the VFL when he played. Didn't seem to get a clear run at it. 4/10.

27. Will Walker. 4 games, 4.5. Emergency 7 times. Showed composure & class as a HF. Averaged 9.8 possies so needs to get more of it. A good season for a second round draft pick. Showed real potential. 7/10.

28. Kayne Turner. 22 games, 8.11. A conundrum. Averaged 11.2 possies at 68 per cent efficiency. Just doesn't get enough of it. Defensive stuff great & hard at it but not a crumber. Still young but seem to have taken the next step. Still the same player he was four years ago. 5/10.

30. Jarrad Waite. 13 games, 32.18. Same old. Great when he is out there. Browny looks better with him in the side. Smart player but still has soft tissue injuries. 2 1/2 goals and 15.7 possies per game is a solid return but couldn't get on the paddock enough. 6/10.

My opinion is you're being somewhat generous with your ratings.
Durdin, Nielson, Turner, Alex morgan, Ryan Clark all should score lower. Even Lmac should probably go down he stank it up this year.

Whatever happened to young roos rool? He burst onto the scene a’la Adrian McAdam in 1993 and then faded just as fast.

He's made cameos since but I'm hoping to see him shine in the off season. Player review time is his domain.

31. Brayden Preuss. 0 games. "Pissed off" that he didn't get a game & it s easy to see why. Smashed it in the VFL each week but we didn't need another ruckman. Couldn't have done any more. Was only going to get a game if Goldy was injured. Won't be on our list next year. 5/10.

32. Mason Wood. 13 games, 22.16. Still the big tease. Soft tissue injuries still holding him back. Won us the Sydney game off his own boot but went missing in other games. Still hasn't played 50 games. All the talent in the world BUT. 5/10.

33. Ed Vickers-Willis. 7 games, 0 goals. One of the real shames of the season was his injury against Sydney. Up until then showed calmness & an understanding of the game plan. A good one-on-one player & versatile. Will only get better. 6/10.

34. Jamie Macmillan. 22 games, 2.3. The backline organiser. 18.4 possies 76.7 per cent DE. Gained more metres than other of our defenders. Still made important disposal errors at times. Generally consistent & versatile. 6/10.

35. Declan Watson 0 games. Injured all year, coming off a knee reco. Got another contract so must have been diligent in his rehab. 5/10.

36. Josh Williams 0 games. Not named as an emergency. A number of soft tissue injuries in the VFL prevented continuity of performance. A real disappointment after last year. Most have done something seriously wrong not to get another contract, given his pace & potential. 2/10.

37. Kyron Hayden. 0 games. Not named. As an emergency. Shoulder op in pre- season meant a delayed start. Did well in the VFL, given limited preparation. A BF fave. 4/10.

38. Tristan Xerri. 0 games. As a developing ruckman wouldn't have expected senior games. Demonstrated enough in the VFL that he can be our No 2 ruckman when Preuss goes. Kicked goals as well without dominating. 5/10.

39. Billy Hartung. 13 games, 6.4. 17.4 possies @ 57.8 per cent kicking efficiency. Brought the outside run & pace he was recruited for. He was pretty handy before injured but the form was tapering off at that time. Surprisingly delisted as we don't have many of his type. 6/10.

40. Thomas Murphy. 4 games, 0 goals. Emergency 7 times. Averaged 10.8 possies @ 81.4 per cent DE. Looked a bit deer in the headlights at times but composed with ball in hand. For a rookie to get a game it is a bonus so he did well. 6/10.

41. Gordon Narrier. 0 games, 0 emergencies. From reports disappointing in the VFL. Very outside & didn't rack up big possies. No surprise he was delisted. Didn't take the opportunity. 2/10.

I would give all North players equally 9/10 because I think they all play well enough to earn that. They would get 10/10 if we either won the premiership or if they were a regular panellist on AFL 360.

Wasn’t it you who did the awesome Review last year....your Mum has a friend called Trevor or something...or have I got the wrong poster?

42. Declan Mountford 0 games, 5 emergencies. An injury-interrupted season. The fact that he was an emergency 4 times at the end of the year with little VFL footy behind is a good sign. Got close to a senior gig early in the year as well. 4/10.

43. Tom Jeffries. O games, no emergencies. An experiment that didn't come off. Didn't play a lot of VFL footy. 1/10.

44. Cam Zurhaar.5 game, 2.5. Emergency 7 times. Definitely a better player than last year. 10.4 possies at 40 per cent efficiency. The stats don't lie. The attack on the ball is fantastic but he has to get more of it & improve his kicking efficiency to go to the next level. 6/10.

45. Oscar Junker. O gams, 0 emergencies. Great to get on the paddock at last. Was solid but didn't set the wood on fire in the VFL. No surprise he hasn't got another contract. 2/10.

50. Ben Brown. 22 games, 61.24. Just short of last year's total. 4 bags of 5 but only 21 goals in last 9 games. A really year. We went to him all the time &
Even when he was out of position he created a contest. Second best contested ball winner in the team which is great for a big fella. A star. 8/10.

My scoring is based on how the player went compared to where they were at the start of the year. Therefore Morgan gets a reasonabl score as before the year he hadn't got close to a game. 2 games at 100 per cent kicking efficiency means a reasonable score. On the other hand Mason Wood started as a talented, injury- riddled tease & finished the same. As he didn't go forward he gets an ordinary score.

??? So what would you rate Dustin Martin this year? Last year he won everything open to him. This year he was AA but is no guarantee to win anything else. So is he a 5/10? Even Browny kicked less goals in 2018 than in 2017. So how does he get an 8? If it's about living up to expectations them Daw, Anderson and Dumont are 9/10 at least and Higgins, Cunnington and Brown are no more than 6. It doesn't make sense

Thanks for the incisive advice. Marstermind seems a misnomer if you can't understand what is an obvious & common rating system. It's a combination of performance, expectation & starting base. FYI Dusty would probably get an 8 - very good but less than last year. What rating system would you use?
