Those NGA changes are really going to bite us in the arse with Munkara.

Has all the hallmarks of the 2006 draft where we got burned by the priority pick changes and missed out on Selwood due to it.
You had pick 2 and took gumbleton. You had a chance to take Selwood.

Hey Bangers, haven’t kept up with this thread as much as I’d like, but I’ve got two questions:

1) has there ever been 3 players with Double Letters in their first name go in the top 5 before?

2) who do you think the Suns may select if they don’t go with Jhye?
There's a few options but are either going earlier or probably not top 10 worthy. Busslinger would be the dream as a KPD with plenty of flexibility within his role, being able to play as an interceptor or a lock down type. Outside of that Jackson Broadbent as a Ruck option would be good, as would any of the Key Forward options around the mark

PMBangers i haven’t had much of a chance to watch vic kids this year at all, and port really needs to stock up on key defenders.

I know some of the names. Hayes, van es, Hustwaite.

I liked what I saw of van es a year ago. Thought he was a great size and had some natural defender type instincts in my brief vision. I haven’t really seen much of any of Hayes and Hustwaite.. Do you prefer one over the other? What’s Hustwaite like? Think I recall hearing he had a late growth spurt is that correct? What’s his potential to be a key defender?

I’m also interested in Jefferson and cadmans potential as backs?

I like the safety net of taking Jefferson and if he doesn’t look great as a kf turning him into a backman.

I don't think Hustwaite is going to be a traditional Key Defender just given his frame, more of a tall flanker type of style with some potential to move into the midfield. In saying that, he's a really good positioner behind the ball and interceptor with some real composure and sound decision making under pressure, so he's got some good tools for the next level regardless of what role he ends up playing. From memory he was 193ish last year so unsure on the growth spurt.

Jefferson and Cadman could both definitely play down back with their strong marking, but I don't think a move will be required for either to be successful at the next level, Jefferson is a really strong contested mark despite a slim frame which is promising imo for how good he can be when he fills out, and Cadman is excellent on the lead and has a solid leap, eDPS has compared him to Charlie Curnow for example, if he Cam be half as good that's damn decent

Again not too much change to the rolling mock draft, so I've decided to dedicate this post to Anthony Munkara.

I've been pretty conservative on Munkara to date, even after being impressed with what he could do with so little touches in both the SANFL U18's and NTFL I had some question marks and wanted to see him in person to fully understand his game a bit better. If you get the chance to see this kid play live, make sure you do it, because he's one of those players that you almost have to see live to get how big of an impact he has on the game. Obviously by now most would've seen the videos on the baselinefooty instagram page of his spin out against Arlo Draper and some of his marks, but it doesn't do justice to his game against the Pies VFL imo. After his first touch opponents started playing on him a lot closer given what he could do with space, but he maintained his X Factor and impact even with the reduced space and time before being closed down. Has well developed leading patterns but his leap allows him to lead later than most players would and take the ball at it's highest point and uses it well.

I'm not sure where he fits in come the draft, I'm not even fully sure where he fits in to my rankings yet, but he's going to be an X-Factor player at the next level with his traits, in a weird way he reminds me a bit of Toby Greene with how much he can damage at ground level and in the air despite not being a tall player, but every half decent forward prospect gets that comparison nowadays

I'm also fully aboard the Cadman train currently, I think he's one that could end up a top 10 pick given his tools, what he's lacking in height compared to the likes of Scully and Lemmey, he makes up for in impact and avenues to goal imo
GWS not selecting a tall.

😬

PMB: Cadman played KPD last year didn't he?

Point being we would've had a second pick much like Collingwood, Carlton and Hawthorn in 05 and Hawthorn, Richmond and the Bulldogs in 04 if not for the rule change, with Selwood player we had earmarked.
Ive never seen Selwood linked to ess in that draft. Its looks like another Dodo special where he claims he had a gun high on his draft board - 10 years after the draft. I think he just reads big footy re-do threads and then makes such statements.

Sheedy has been pretty public on it too.

Looking back on the draft, the only midfielder select before Selwood (pick 7) after Gumbleton (pick 2) was Travis Boak (pick 5), so hardly some outlandish statement to say that if we had pick 4 as well we would've taken him.

It's been common knowledge at Essendon since that draft.

Every time I see Ashcroft play he has impressed me more and more the Victorian centric media are believing he won’t nominate the Lions what are you thoughts on the subject matter?
I still doubt he nominates open pool

I heard he was going to nominate the Lions but then he read Bigfooty and decided you were coming on a bit too strong so now he's going into the open draft.

Busslinger didn’t get picked up, interesting. I’ll be honest, it’s adding to a position of strength and with a relatively injury-free midfield, not where I expected us to go.

Oh my there's been a mistake, the rolling mock draft I do is for the draft at the end of the year, Busslinger wasn't eligible for the MSD.

Faulkhead is a nice pick though imo, versatile and clean with the footy and probably in the conversation for best available at that pick

One Davey twin clearly looks amazing and a bid will come somewhere likely in the 15-25 range.

How is the other one tracking and will a bid likely come?
Alwyn has talent, but has been quiet at times in the games he's played so far. Like many others, will depend on his champs. F/S often slip a bit lower than might otherwise be the case. I suspect he'd be more of a second round nom if the draft were held tomorrow.

Jayden ruptured an ACL at the end of the preseason. Second time for him. Unlikely to get a nomination at this stage. Some have suggested he has as much or more talent than Alwyn but he has a long way back from here. Best not to expect too much.

Can imagine some unruly crowds mispronouncing Faulkhead's name
