Maybe? I don't see much reason why you wouldn't put your intended kicker practicing kick-ins in preseason though.
Because you're giving other blokes a go in case you need back up/Sicily gets injured?

Ok you clearly have a bias against him. He had several 140+ scores in the previous few seasons as well. I don't want to talk any more peole into him, however you are just plain wrong in your assessment of him as well as the players you're comparing him to.
I had him in 2020, he was great. 2022 is different. He's still basically 'best of the rest' though so it shouldn't hurt too badly if you take him.

Too many question marks on role, avenues of scoring, positioning, percentage of kick-ins, durability, the fact he's coming off a major LTI, as sellt as a new coach with a new system. I get 2020 Docherty vibes from Sicily this year.

Eagling Essendon had McDonagh taking the kickouts in their match sim last week. Why wasn't Ridley taking all of the kickouts if he's going to be their primary kickout taker?

The comparison to Docherty is fair, however, I don't think that will be the case. I'm fairly confident that Sicily will be a Top10 SC Def for average this year.

He's definitely a value pick in defense. Priced at about 83, he can easily go 100+ imo.

For me only Lloyd is a lock, all the rest can be debated. I'm picking him though.

Lloyd, Whitfield & Sicily are the only Defs that haven't left my side.

Yeah; for me I don't see Sicily as an awful pick, merely one that owners would feel alright about owning and non-owners will feel satisfied with not selecting by the end of the season.

2020 Docherty averaged 97 before being killed in the last 2 games. That included him being moved around into odd positions iirc.

I'd take 97 from Sicily without the missing the last 2 games part at 440k :moustache:

Yeah same, getting to that stage of preseason where you start wondering about even the seemingly obvious picks though.

I've changed very little about my team this preseason, not sure if that's good or not.

We all do our fair share of pre-season player research around here, but you can't teach nous. Trust your instincts and judgement if they have served you well for the most part in previous years.

Sicily was averaging 108.2 from the first 10 games of 2020 before his injury game and that includes the 44 he scored playing forward for a whole game. His price got up to 600k+ at the time. Nearly 100k+ up on his opening price of 509k that year. Also scored a 164 & 149 that season. His ceiling is higher than any of Hewitt, Ridley and Dawson.

I was looking at Sicily's scores this morning.

I am still on the fence about him.

But 1 of those 2020 scores has me completely stumped.

12 touches, 3 contested, 2 marks, 75% DE, 4 tackles, 5 turnovers, 7 1%ers, 55DT points.
Hawks got rolled by 61 points.

He scored 96 in SC.

How?
Not complaining as I am fairly certain I started him that year...

7x 1%ers + 8% inflation?

For clarity, McDoonah was on one team and Ridley was on the other. If we're talking Wednesday's sim

Edit:
Black
1st kick in – Hind

Red
1st kick in – Ridley

Red
2nd kick in – Cutler

Black
2nd kick in – McDonagh

Etc.

I've mentioned it previously. Fast kick-ins will be a mixed bag. If the last line player is a half decent kick and they have a target they'll take the kick. If it's a slower play from a behind then Ridley will probably take the majority imho.

What are you basing the 90-95 average from? If you're looking at previous history, it's 94-105 for Sicily

If Hewett was $350k or less, I'd take a look, but at $400k, you basically want a guarantee he'll be a keeper, and I reckon it's too hard to tell now

See how he goes in the preseason matches though
When Hewett had >50% CBAs, he averaged 98.5. If he gets that role at Carlton, he is a good pick. Big IF.

I just don't see the point of starting Sicily for a 90-95 average when for $50k less Hewett has more upside and for $80-100k more Short Ridley and Dawson all have more upside and genuine security.
Like Birchy I don't agree with this assessment. Past scoring is a far better predictor of future performance than changing clubs and possibly getting more midfield time. You are wildly optimistic about Hewitt.

To be a successful pick at those prices Hewett and Sicily have to be keepers. In Sicilys case there's a pretty good chance he will be. Yes other defenders might steal some of his ball or impact his role in which case it's not the best outcome. But on the basis of probability it's more likely he does average 100+ and work out well. Hewett on the other hand has little chance of averaging 95+. New club with new playing patterns and a new role leading to a significant increase on past performance. I just don't see it. At least that's what I think.

I picked up Lloyd at $520k last year, Petracca around the same. SP’s don’t bust out 130’s every week.

Macrae will go 80-100 in a game and I’ll jump on a couple of weeks later

I feel like with Jordan leaving to the croms, Lloyd has more chips and hence why I believe he is under value. I could be wrong.

Plus Clarko won't play swingman! Although I do question how well he will score coming back from ACL. Watch and see defintely!

Be careful with Hewitt pick. New coach the midfield rotation is up in there air. Hewitt may have inflated scores with Walsh missing.
