Just wondering if there's a way on this site to block posts that feature a certain ex-port player in the same way you can put specific posters on ignore
Could call it a 'Post Gard'.

Night GF towards the end of October in Qld.

If it's not bucketing down with rain it will be as humid as fu** ....
October in Brisbane is no wetter or more humid than June.

Admittedly it's over 20 years since I lived there so climate change may have changed that.

Former AFL player reportedly admits to baby love-triangle snub
A former AFL player is embroiled in a messy love triangle after fathering two children to two different women in the span of five days.
Former AFL player Josh Hill has reportedly admitted he is involved in a baby love-triangle drama with two women.
The 31-year-old former West Coast and Western Bulldogs star this month fathered two children to different women in Melbourne and Perth in a five-day span.

Oh geez LOL

On 2020 form Ben King is miles ahead of Rozee.
Rozee has been a write off this year

Was great early, copped that whack to his jaw what threw him around for 2 weeks, does his ankle/heel, plays when he shouldn't have and here we are. Has gone from top 3 if the draft is redone to6-10 due to injuries. Nothing to be concerned about long term.

I reckon there was Judd comparisons after his first 2 weeks

West coast have been trash away from home all season.
They miss there home ground umpire advantage.

It's amazing how quickly everyone jumped to peg them as premiership favourites based on a run of games at Optus. They're literally a 6-8 goal better team there. With the Eagles, the measuring stick is always how well they perform on the road.

I have been saying for weeks the Eagles favouritism was completely unjustified.

Geelong and Richmond looking good at the moment, but a bit to play out. Both these teams really are the worst case scenario for a myriad of reasons.

Also think everybody has been way too quick to write both us and Brisbane off.

My theory is and always has been that gut running til your near ready to collapse is the reason why goalkicking is so poor.

skills haven’t gotten worse, only kicking for goal. It’s well known across all sports that people execute skills poorly when they’re suffering fatigue in their muscles and when they’re mentally fatigued.

footballs running and physical contact are far more challenging on the body than basketball or soccer.

I’m not sure why people keep asking why goalkicking is so poor. It’s obvious I think.

If that were the case, you'd expect to see accurate goalkicking early in games and then see it drop away later in games. That's not the case.

The real reason IMO is the preference for drafting athletes over footballers. Dixon is a big 200cm powerhouse, which is great, but he isn't a natural footballer and it's a long way down between hand and foot. Schulz wasn't anywhere near the athlete but he was just an old fashioned footballer who knew how to kick a pill because he'd been doing it since he was 5.

because it doesn’t take an hour to reach some state of physical exertion

in 30 secs of hard and fast exercise you can be sucking breathe hard, lactic acid built up and all sorts of chemical reactions going on in your body.

There’s a reason these blokes can kick these goals in practice but not in games.

in the old days forwards just sat there watching the ball and waiting.

I don’t think we’re drafting athletes over footballers. Today’s footballers are more skilled than ever in some ways.

I do believe though that they’re spending a lot more time on fitness and stamina and since there’s only so many hours in a day that takes away from time spent on goalkicking practice.

You draft kickers you get Fogarty and Lewis Johnston, no point be able to kick if you can't get it in the first place.

The game is so much more than the kicking.

The mechanics of kicking a football are pretty simple, the taller you are the harder it is (on average, obviously this doesn't literally mean all short players are good kicks and all tall players are bad kicks). With players getting taller and taller over the years, you should expect the standard of kicking to drop.

I think in general skills are much higher than they were 20 years ago though, so that doesn't really add up.

I think a lot of the goalkicking accuracy issues come from modern team defence being designed around not allowing high percentage goalkicking opportunities. Clogging the corridor, forcing forwards to lead out wide to find space, and manic frontal and perceived pressure on a lot of the shots from general play.

There is also a broader range of players kicking for goal now. I'd love to see a statistical breakdown of goals scored by forwards vs other positions and how it's changed over time, but the fact that 36 players are always within a kick of the ball means (i'm theorising) that you now have a lot more set shots being kicked by people that don't have an automatic set shot routine that they practice 6 days a week like Schulz, Lockett or Lloyd. Sure, that doesn't explain Dixon missing ones he should kick, but Tredders was a sublimely skilled footballer's footballer and I don't think he was neccessarily a better set shot than Dixon despite his overall superiority.

So if a lot more different players are taking shots, why aren't these players practicing just like the forwards? How many shots do you think someone like Ollie Wines has at training per week? Practice makes perfect. It's such a core part of the game, it's just crazy that the emphasis on it is so low.

My box of wooden spoons arrived this morning. Time to start engraving!

4 x "2020 We cry as one" wooden spoons / apricot slice stirrers arrived yesterday. They are SO good. Thanks. With the exception of a root in march, these are the best things I've bought all year.

Only so many hours in the day.

I'm guessing here, but a Full Forward in the 90s would probably spend most of their training marking and kicking set shots. That was the job. Bit of fitness work and time in the gym. Certainly zero team defence.

That's my point. Charlie Dixon probably does less set shot training than Matthew Lloyd did because there's more to being a forward in the AFL in 2020. Ollie Wines definitely does far less set shot training than forwards 20 years ago, but (and again i'm taking an educated guess) I suspect midfielders take more shots at goal as a percentage of the total compared with 20 years ago.

If we don't like it, ban zone defence.

I think both Geelong and West Coast are a bit overrated.

Geelong will be hoping to play Port in the finals and West Coast will be hoping to play us at Adelaide Oval.

I have no recolletion of Josh Hill playing in the AFL.

I hope he can afford the child support payments. Maybe he could get an advertising gig with Ansell.
