Isn’t this just a case of the serpent eating it’s own tail scenario?
I’m pretty sure “significant others” / “better half’s” “ / “wives” is a more patriarchal throwback reference before the social acceptance of de facto relationships, post this (1950’s mentality) the collective acronym “WAGS” became the go to noun.
It’s probably a gender neutral common ground but the irony is strong in this one.

I don't think so. You do need to have a net loss to be considered for a compensation pick. 2012 we received two second round compensation picks for Chaplin and Pearce. We traded for Monfries rather than sign him as a FA as we would have lost one of those picks.

If Adelaide want to reboot this season and run it again in 2021 I don't think any one else will complain.
