Collingwood have a lot of defenders who can't defend and forwards who don't kick goals.
Buckley is actually a genius for keeping the shitty list he's built off the bottom of the ladder.

So many players should not be playing AFL. To be fair they have some first choice players missing up forward - White, Mayne and Blair. lol.

Brayden Maynard and Jackson Ramsay look, sound and play like somebody created a team from scratch on AFL Evolution and couldn't be bothered editing the last few players. I think Maynard has a long kick, that's literally the only characteristic of either of their games that I can identify.

All of those teams were defensive animals aswell.

Also, besides Geelong, their forward movement was not based on Joe the goose type entries, with the exception of Geelong in 2007 who won the flag largely because of their arrival as a force and a very poor opposition who was not mentally prepared or physically capable of winning the GF.

Those early hawthorn teams had a hard working 2 way midfield and a defensive team that followed orders , and afl house made it easy as **** by allowing the umpires to allow hawthorn to play by rules that suited them. I reckon you teleport that hawthorn team in another period ie 2000-2004 to play Brisbane and port Adelaide and they get flogged and struggle to make the four much less win grand finals. The worst back six in their first grand final (where Trent crowd went off early with a leg injury) that will ever win a cup. How whatever team playing them couldn't beat a Trent croad-less backline is beyond me. That was the year when Richmond and hawthorns defensive gameplan revolved around rushing anything within 30ms of goals straight through.

To be honest I don't think a team has had a "complete" team in a grand final since port. They've either had 2/3 ie good mid good back shit forward or some configuration. Teams have worked out how to cover one end. Hawks around average backlines , Geelong shit forwards , etc.

But they valued attack more than defence.
They were ok with conceding scores as they believed in themselves to score more. For a few years in a row we had match ups of pure defence vs attack, best example being 2009 and 2013. In all of them attack won. Even 2011 where both were attack minded but Geelong more so than Collingwood, and Geelong won.

Treloar gets a lot of it but he's mostly rubbish. Has a bad habit of handballing to teammates under pressure and then asking for it back when they get tackled.

James kelly what a champion.

I hate that he gets overlooked over Geelongs era. So much focus on the Bartels, Enright and Chapmans etc.

This guy was just as good. One of those real very important pieces of the cog type players.

Extremely tough and fair to boot.

So if Voss gets the job at Collingwood do we give Buckley a home

Bucks and Eddie should probably go together.
